Apart from Crawley all the England batsmen have given their wickets away

After a period of sensible batting, Bazball rears it's ugly head.

    Mark, Cheadle Hulme

I'm 10000% a "play how you play" fan. But you could see that coming a mile away.

Chris Woakes comes in for England, with three balls left until the new ball - that Smith wicket has opened a window for India.

Woakes gets his own pull shot out and takes a single from his second ball.

Jamie Smith wasn't going to keep it down but the trap was set out there. He has given India the window of opportunity.

Bumrah will be licking his lips.

A combination effort on the boundary! That really is a double blow for England.

Relay catch between Jadeja and Sudharsan dismisses Smith for 40

The third pull doesn't go so well.

Jamie Smith backs himself again as Krishna again goes for a short-ball plan.

He doesn't get hold of it in the way he did two balls ago and the ball falls towards Ravindra Jadeja who's waiting on the ropes at square leg.

The veteran all-rounder takes the catch but is tumbling over the boundary... but Sai Sudharsan is positioned close by to take the relay catch as the ball is tossed back to him.

Could Smith have let that one go?

Nothing on snicko - Smith survives.

But is Smith now out on the pull?

India think he's toe-ended a tiny edge to keeper and are going to have a look.

Jamie Smith is a great hooker and puller. A perfect shoulder height and he decided that was going for the maximum.

England have come out like a train.

Jamie Smith pulls Krishna deep into the stand at mid-wicket for a huge six.

Harry Brook is timing it so well. He's looking to get this job done quickly, he's not hanging around.

Now that is something I have never seen Harry Brook do before. It was Rishabh Pant-esque.

Brook takes page out of Pant's book with 'paddle roly poly' away to fine leg for four

    Pant-inspired!

Harry Brook drops to the ground to get under Ravindra Jadeja's delivery, ramping it over the keeper.

Jadeja goes up for a big lbw appeal off the following delivery, but it's going down leg and India don't review, and Brook then hits a pair of twos into the off side.

The breeze really is strong, blowing from the rugby ground, so up the hill. Krishna will have it behind him bowling those bumpers. Headingley is a pretty open ground, so I suspect those in the Western Terrace in particular are feeling it.

Brook backed away and went for a flat-batted tennis swat. Thankfully it dropped in no-man's land.

  18. Eng 335-5published at 78 overs

Harry, don't do this to me.

Second ball of the session and Brook backs away and miscues the ball aerially into the off side with a flat bat.

It looks very catchable, but falls safely in a gap behind mid-off.

Smith then sears a pull for four through mid-wicket - no stopping that.

Re Richard Belfast 13:17. Dropping a bowler to get Bethell in? Four front line bowlers including Stokes? Were he to pull up you'd be down to three so he would have to bowl at 90%. Bethell or Pope is a problem McCullum must be delighted to have

    John from Leicester

Richard, 13:17 - one innings back after his latest long injury break and insisting he will only now bowl short spells and manage his workload, and we're talking about Stokes in a 4 man bowling attack. Short memories.

    Antony, Gloucs

Less about mercurial Stokes, time we were more honest about the form of Crawley and the fitness of our bowling attack ahead of this forthcoming Ashes.
