Harry Brook is so effortless as he plays that shot. That was a real dismissive drive. It's got the crowd going.

  2. 6 runs

    Cracking shot.

Harry Brook heaves Mohammed Siraj over long-on for six to move to 91.

That should have been taken. He will be disappointed with that.

When you are not fielding well, you do feel the pressure.

Another drop by Yashasvi Jaiswal. That was a fairly regulation catch.

  5. dropped catch

Brook dropped on 82published at 85 overs

    Eng 370-6

    Really should have been taken.

Yashasvi Jaiswal spills a simple chance at fourth slip as Harry Brook angles the ball into the cordon like he was running catching practice.

It was a little high on his chest, I think he tried to go fingers down when they should have been up.

    Jasprit Bumrah can't believe it.

Some inevitable grumbling about giving your wicket away, but the reality is any attempt to score runs carries risk. Is Smith’s dismissal really that different from Nair?

    Rob, Hants.

I get the naysayers, but I LOVE England’s determination to absolutely live on the front foot as much as possible. Give me this over a timid, defensive sludge-fest any day!

    Rachel T, Lincoln

Like James in York, I think Smith did the right thing, playing his natural game. He must have been quite reserved up to that stage, scoring slowly, and if he'd made ten or twenty off the short stuff before the new ball, and Jasprit Bumrah, then all good. Let's hope Woakes and the tail can get Harry to the ton. Game definitely on I think

In the County Championship this year, day three has been the best for batting at Headingley.

With conditions still great for batting here England will not want to concede any first innings lead at all.

Batting average by day - Championship 2025:

    • Day 1 - 26.66
    • Day 2 - 23.86
    • Day 3 - 29.64
    • Day 4 - 23.40

This is the first time in this Test where there has been a bit more than just a chat between batter and bowler.

Brook and Siraj are still having a little confer as Siraj walks away.

That was a powerful shot from Harry Brook. He timed it really well. He actually hit it too hard and the fielder was never beating that.

He is not missing out on any opportunity.

  10. Eng 367-6published at 84 overs

    Bang bang!

Consecutive fours for Harry Brook, absolutely smashing Mohammed Siraj down the ground and then through the covers.

He then miscues one down the ground, but it's short of Krishna and he takes two more.

    Siraj not happy.

Zero situational awareness from Smith. Last over before the new ball. Bazball has no plan B!

    Arkam, Blackburn

I love to see an attacking desire but why, oh why, can't it be tempered with some common sense? Test cricket is a battle of wills but we seem intent on handing the initiative back with one day cricket shots and a gung ho approach!!

Kate in Worthing (a dyed in the wool Test cricket lover)

This is my problem with Bazball. No brains when calm heads are required. Still 120+ runs behind and that happens.

Woakesy looked up at Bumrah there and went 'Woww'. I am not surprised by the amount of turn on this pitch at all, it's very dry.

  13. Eng 356-6published at 83 overs

Oh blimey, where did that come from?

Bumrah's first delivery absolutely spits off the pitch and flies over Chris Woakes and away for four byes.

That'll go in Rishabh Pant's column, but he seems to find it pretty funny.

With the deficit at 119, you get the feeling that every run is very important for England to take a lead. Or give it away.

  15. Eng 352-6published at 82 overs

Mohammed Siraj takes the new ball at the other end for India, and sends down six deliveries to Harry Brook.

One scoring shot from the over, a two into mid-wicket as Brook moves to 70.

Disagree with the nay sayers here. Smith clearly thinking to grab a few before the new ball. If it comes off we’re flying. England win if we get within 100 or less.

    James, York

Call me a hysterical overreacting England fan, but think Smith has just given away England’s chances of victory in this match, pivotal moment. After the way England batted yesterday, I felt we’d finally found some balance and pragmatism to the Bazball approach.

Despite that wicket, Jamie Smith has dominated the short ball through his Test career, averaging 73 at a strike rate of 105 when on the back foot.

On the front foot his average against pace is just 29 at a strike rate of 59. It didn’t work out for him there, but his back foot game has been a strength of his Test career so far.

Bumrah is such a unique bowler. With his action, you feel he could hit you on the head at any moment. And then he has that full, quick yorker that he fires in.

  19. Eng 350-6published at 81 overs

    Beats the bat immediately!

Chris Woakes vaguely nudges his bat in the direction of Bumrah's delivery and sees the new ball whistle past his edge.

Bumrah then strikes him on the pad, but that's heading down leg.

Maiden over for the India seamer.
