India may have been dropping catches but England have given up some wickets they'll be kicking themselves over - will they come out honours even?

The Brook wicket shows why England won't win the Ashes. Silly shots at pivotal moments by too many players. Brainless!

    John

This is why Brook won’t emulate Root unless he tweaks his approach. So much ability and naturally free flowing but, just reign it in a little lad!

    Anthony

England, all or nothing approach, can infuriate as much as it entertains. Needed Brook to be the last man standing.

Harry Brook's stats were 99 from 112 balls. He got two sixes and 11 fours. It is the 89th time in Test history that someone has been out for 99. The last Englishman to do it was Jonny Bairstow at Old Trafford against South Africa in 2017.

  6. Eng 403-7published at 88 overs

400 up for England, neatly working Krishna wide of mid-on for four.

Brydon Carse has come in for England and edged his first ball short of the slips, before taking a single to point to bring Woakes on strike.

What a death on 99. An extraordinary innings with some moments of genius. I suppose he would have taken this when he was caught off a no-ball on a duck yesterday.

Harry Brook hangs his head back. He cannot believe it and neither can the crowd. It would have been his first Test century at Headingley.

There'll be no first Headingley century for Harry Brook - he goes for 99!

Prasidh Krishna returns in place of the expensive Mohammed Siraj and Brook moves to one run off his century with a two through point.

He drives expansively at the next delivery but fails to make contact, then goes from the next delivery, dropping a pull right into the hands of Shardul Thakur at deep backward-square.

The England white-ball captain looks to the skies and walks off without a ton on his home ground.

Bumrah's body language is saying that he is yearning to pick-up a wicket. But when you are tired, you do become desperate.

  11. Eng 396-6published at 87 overs

Nicely timed from Chris Woakes, just dropping Bumrah's delivery through a vacant mid-off for four.

He adds two more with a similarly well-played shot in the point region.

India’s fielding costing them dearly and allowing England back into the game. Two quality fielders gone in Rohit and Kohli and it’s showing.

At this stage, Bumrah needs a wicket. That's the only way India can come back into this game.

Things are moving quickly for the England team at the moment.

Here's that Brook chance off Bumrah.

With the England batter racing along, how critical will that be?

India will be a little bit frustrated, they need to re-group now during this break. The fielders need to grab their chances and Jaiswal is someone who is having a hard time on the field at the moment.

Rishabh Pant is down receiving treatment on an injury, so the umpires have decided to take drinks a little early.

England have scored 38 runs in the six overs since the new ball was taken, 31 of them Brook's.

    They currently trail by 83.

India might not be missing the batting of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but they are missing their catching.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has dropped two in the slips and might not have been there had those two legends still been around.

  19. Eng 388-6published at 86 overs

    Four, and indeed four more.

Leg byes first, clipping Brook on the way to the boundary, before the England batter unleashes a shot through point to end the over, taking him to 97.

18 from the over, 14 off Brook's bat, and 29 from Siraj's last two - he's now gone for 1-100 in 22 overs.

Harry Brook is so effortless as he plays that shot. That was a real dismissive drive. It's got the crowd going.
