Nothing remarkable about the delivery to dismiss the England captain, with the ball seaming just 0.5° away from the left-hander.

Of the 36 balls Stokes faced against pace today, 17 of them deviated more - lack of concentration the skipper's undoing here.

You get the feeling these two have got to do the damage for England. The wicket is looking a little bit stoppy as Smith is finding his feet at the crease.

Another blink-and-you'll-miss-it over from Ravindra Jadeja.

Two singles from it as England try to build another partnership in their bid for first-innings parity.

Disappointing from Stokes after carefully playing himself in

    Andy

Stokes looked too circumspect today at the crease he needed to play his normal game and go after the bowlers, that ball he got out to he would normally slap to the boundary but he just pushed at it, frustrating to watch

    Dave, Swindon

No conviction on the shot from Stokes. Pivotal moment, just as him and Brook were building an all-crucial partnership.

  5. Eng 276-5published at 65 overs

There was a loud, unrepeatable, shout from Ben Stokes as he walked off. The England captain was furious with himself after that dismissal.

A bit of a nothing shot, playing away from his body and it's given India a huge boost.

Jamie Smith is the new batter and solidly blocks the last ball of a successful Mohammed Siraj over.

Stokes has thrown his bat in the air in disappointment. We thought he was getting his head down but England are a long way behind now.

Siraj takes 'big wicket' as Stokes edge caught behind by Pant

England won't be favourites anymore. Big wicket for India.

Mohammed Siraj makes the key breakthrough as he attacks from round the wicket and gets Ben Stokes to feel for one just outside off.

Just enough movement away from the left-hander to take the edge and Rishabh Pant takes a regulation catch behind the stumps.

Brook has thrashed that over extra cover. He hit that so cleanly, a little shimmy up the pitch. Bang.

    Oof.

Harry Brook is at it again, charging Mohammed Siraj and then unleashing a ferocious drive over extra cover for four.

That's one way to officially avoid the follow-on - and there were plenty of you unsure that would happen when the England innings started in the gloom.

After a single from Harry Brook, Ben Stokes reverse sweeps fine for two to end Ravindra Jadeja's over.

England are now exactly 200 runs behind. Plenty of work to do to reach parity but they're going well.

Its feeling very tight and tactical to me. If England lose another wicket I'd have India as favourites.

    Noel, Huddersfield

Brook and Stokes need to get England to at least 350. We saw how India's tail collapsed and a 100-run deficit would leave a draw as best possible result.

Most eyes are on the Test today but there’s a significant match going on up the A1 where Jofra Archer is making his return to first-class cricket. England hope this is the big step towards him returning to Tests.

First things first, Sussex are batting and Jofra has been bowling his left-arm spin in the nets. Mark Wood is here too as he recovers from knee surgery. They’re both having a light bowl under the eye of England bowling coach Neil Killeen.

    Stokes 18, Brook 35

India's frustrations are only added to by the last couple of deliveries before drinks.

First, Ben Stokes pushes forward and edges through the vacant slip cordon for four and then he plays and misses trying to cut a ball that was far too close to him.

Ollie Pope went early but otherwise it's been a good first hour for England in Leeds.

Should teams be fined 5 runs for testing the shape of the ball if it goes through the rings? Stop spurious challenges which slow down the game.

Should India get a warning or penalty for continuingly asking for the ball to be changed?

This is the third time in 10 minutes that India are asking the umpire to change the ball.

  17. Eng 264-4published at 62.1 overs

Attempt number three from India to try and change the ball. Clearly inspired by England sides toiling in the subcontinent over the years.

Still no dice, says the umpire. It goes through the rings so you've got to bowl with it.

A sensible shot from Stokes in these conditions. He knew Jadeja was going to be pitching outside the off-stump. It is well controlled.

You barely have time to blink with the speed at which Ravindra Jadeja races through his overs.

Ben Stokes does his best to give this live texter a few more seconds of respite as he nails a reverse sweep to the boundary.

It went pretty much dead squad, no chance for the fielders in the deep.

Harry Brook is special. He just glanced that away, it was like he had all the time in the world to play that ball.
