On Harry Brook: If this works, it will be brilliant. If it doesn't it will have been foolhardy.

    John, Worcs.

Glen still on the fence about him, there is method in the madness. Look how spread the field is so early in his innings!

Aidan he's number 2 in the world for a reason from Derby.

Glen 11:24 why are you negging? He's trying to mess up Bumrah's length. A calculated risk. Equally risky to sit back at wait for one with his name on. Fair play to Brook.

Pope edged behind to Krishna’s shortest ball of the morning, pitching 9.8m from the stumps.

The ball seamed 0.81° away from Pope, enough to find the outside edge from the attempted cut shot.

Another Jasprit Bumrah over comes and goes without too much incident.

England will be more than happy if that becomes a regular occurrence in this series. Just a single from it.

    Stokes 2, Brook 20

I've got to be honest with you, Glen. I'm not sure what Harry Brook has to do to convince you given he currently averages just shy of 59 after 26 Tests...

His approach seems to be working so far this morning and he adds another boundary to start Prasidh Krishna's latest, expertly opening the face to guide the ball wide of gully but still fine enough to beat the fielder at a wide deep third.

    Four more.

Brook wants to assert his authority. I get it. But just play the situation! Honestly don't get his logic. He'll be out in the 20 or 30s then we're in trouble.

Glen, still on the fence about him, Leeds.

  6. Eng 232-4published at 53 overs

Solid defence from Ben Stokes to see out the last four balls of Jasprit Bumrah's over.

With Harry Brook clearly going on the offensive this morning, the England captain will have the chance to play himself in knowing the scoreboard will continue to tick over.

    Jasprit who?

Harry Brook is in the mood this morning as charges India's premier fast bowler and flays him through the covers for four.

That's a statement of intent if ever there was one.

Ollie Pope's final figures were 106 runs from 137 balls with 14 fours. His ninth Test century and his third hundred in consecutive home Tests.

That innings should quieten down Ollie Pope’s critics for the time being

    Ozzie, Muswell Hill.

  10. Eng 227-4published at 52 overs

England skipper Ben Stokes is the new batter and gets himself off the mark with a flick to leg that brings him two.

This is a crucial session in the match. If Stokes and Harry Brook can stay together for a while, England will close the gap to India's total quickly.

But another wicket or two and India will be well on top again.

Pope cannot believe it. He was feasting on those balls yesterday but he tried to hit it too hard. Not a particular great delivery but it's got him out.

Restarting an innings is never easy. Pope tried to overhit it but it is the breakthrough that India were desperate for.

Edged behind - and Ollie Pope is disbelieving.

It is not a good ball from Prasidh Krishna but it does the job for India.

Short and wide, Pope tries to thrash it away on the cut as he did so many times yesterday but can only feather it through to Rishabh Pant.

First over of Jasprit Bumrah well negotiated by England.

The fast bowler might still be working his way back to the levels he reached yesterday.

India’s seam bowlers were hitting their straps yesterday evening, hitting a good line and length with 39% of their balls bowled - the highest for any session of the Test to date.

England’s batters did superbly well to negate the threat, playing 24% false shots, far lower than in the afternoon session of day two (30%).

  16. Eng 224-3published at 50.1 overs

Jasprit Bumrah does indeed bowl the first over from the Kirkstall Lane End... but his first ball is angling down leg and Ollie Pope helps it on its way to the long leg boundary.

It took Harry Brook 16 balls to get off the mark, his previous record of not scoring in a Test innings was seven dot balls.

    Wow.

Harry Brook has quickly brushed off that loose shot, moving from nought to 10 in two balls.

He picks up on another short ball from Krishna and launches it high over deep mid-wicket for a big, big six - and it's well caught in the crowd!

    Some start for England.

What a way to get off the mark for Harry Brook. It was a loose ball from Krishna and Brook has hammered it.
