England have been playing positive cricket. Ben Stokes looked dangerous with his first over so it will be a good battle in this next hour.

I feel like India have better top order batters but England have more in the tail, leads to an interesting balance. Advantage England if they can get a few more today I feel.

Weather-permitting, we could have another hour and 10 minutes before stumps.

That includes the extra half hour because, once again, they're not going to get through the allotted overs for the day.

Ben Stokes has swung it more than any of the England bowlers. With the lights on, he may be able to get something out of this pitch.

This partnership is proving to be important after that first early wicket. India will be putting down a massive marker if they manage to come away from this game with a win.

  6. drinks break

    Drinks - Ind 64-1published at 15 overs

England had Sai Sudharsan caught behind down the leg side in the first innings as part of a very deliberate plan.

It looks like Ben Stokes is going to try the same again and that leads to three balls in a row going harmlessly down leg.

When he changes it up, angling the ball across the left-hander, Sudharsan drives nicely through backward point for four.

Time for drinks with the rain still light enough for play to go on.

The rain has stopped. Jofra Archer is about to take part in a first-class match for the first time in 1,498 days.

15.1 overs remain in the day. He could bowl tonight after this bat.

Only one over from Shoaib Bashir. It's Ben Stokes time.

India should be looking to bat normally and should be aiming for 350 and above. Sometimes this little bit of drizzle can disrupt your concentration however, you would rather it rain completely or not at all.

  10. Ind 59-1published at 14 overs

    Sudharsan 17, Rahul 36

Umpire Chris Gaffaney has just had a glance up at the dark clouds gathering over Headingley.

It looks like there are a few drops of rain now but it's not heavy enough to force them off... yet.

Yep, umbrellas are up. Can England take one with them before this possible rain delay?

The wind is really blustering the trousers of the players at the moment. It is also getting a little bit dark here at Headingley.

Archer got 10 paces inside the boundary but is told not to bother because it's raining.

He shares a laugh with England team-mate Matthew Potts.

The first 13 overs have been exciting. There has been a good partnership and Sai Sudharsan is doing well on his Test debut. He is defending close to the body and looks a very solid player.

  14. Ind 57-1published at 13 overs

    Lead by 63

The wind has picked up again at Headingley, which won't help the bowlers.

Not sure Shoaib Bashir can use it as an excuse for the long hop he serves up second ball, though.

Pulled away for four with ease by KL Rahul. This partnership is now up to 41 for India.

Anything can happen from this stage. This is proper Test cricket.

The third innings has so much pressure because if you don't bat well, you lose the match. On this pitch, you are not sure when to declare it so there is pressure as a batting unit.

  16. Ind 49-1published at 12 overs

    Lead by 55

Too full, too wide and driven dismissively through the covers by KL Rahul.

Those are the only runs from Tongue's first over of the innings.

And it it will be a double change. Not Ben Stokes - although he did seem to be warming up - but Shoaib Bashir.

    Jofra update.

Sussex are eight down. It's dark. The floodlights are on.

Archer is coming out to bat but you wouldn't want to face him in this.

This is unusual from Ben Stokes, it's the sixth over of Chris Woakes. Usually he is chopping and changing his bowlers and his field a lot more, but he has been quite passive.

  19. Ind 45-1published at 11 overs

    Lead by 51

    Maiden over from Chris Woakes.

The lacquer is coming off the ball now and he is finding some swing. But he's just finished the sixth over of his spell so that may be that for him for the time being.

Change of bowling at the other end with Josh Tongue coming on.

I wonder if England may go early with Bashir here for a bit of spin.
