Jaiswal is gone! Carse bowled round the wicket, a bit of nip and he is running away pointing in the air.

    Got 'im!

That's a beauty from Brydon Carse to dismiss first-innings centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Round the wicket, hitting that off stump line and then just getting the ball to nip away and take the left-hander's outside edge.

Straightforward catch for wicketkeeper Jamie Smith and England have the early breakthrough.

  3. Ind 16-0published at 3 overs

    Jaiswal 4, Rahul 11

Careful, Tom. People remember these things and if this pitch starts breaking up over the next couple of days then they'll be coming for you as well as Ben Stokes...

It all looks pretty good for now, though, as KL Rahul just leans on a full ball from Chris Woakes and sends it racing through the covers for four.

    Lovely shot.

    So nearly a drag on!

KL Rahul tries to force the ball through the off side and gets an inside edge that just misses the stumps.

Too short from Chris Woakes next ball, though, and Rahul middles this one through point.

You always want a good start in your second innings. If you lose a couple quickly, that panic can spread through the dressing room.

  7. Ind 6-0published at 2 overs

Movement for Brydon Carse first up as he bowls from the Football Stand End.

Too wide to concern KL Rahul, though, and he just lets it go. He nudges to leg a couple of balls later for the first run off the bat in the innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal then adds four more with a pull shot that goes quickly to the boundary. He didn't look entirely in control of the shot but he got the outcome he wanted.

Chris Woakes doesn't like that. He has already got a bit of a niggle so you don't want to be having to pull up on your run-up.

  9. Ind 1-0published at 1 over

    Lead by 7

That no-ball is the only run from the first over of India's second innings.

Steady start from Chris Woakes, although he was a little frustrated when Jaiswal backed away late and he had to pull up and go back to the top of his mark.

  10. Ind 1-0published at 0.3 overs

    Lead by 7

The crowd are up in Leeds, they know this is a good opportunity for England.

There are oohs around the crowd as Yashasvi Jaiswal plays and misses attempting to cut but it was a no-ball in any case.

Fair delivery next up and Chris Woakes is finding some a bit of swing.

The rain is holding off for now, the covers are off and Ben Stokes leads England out under gloomy skies in Leeds.

In a role reversal from the start of the England innings, it's the India openers waiting as long as possible before beginning to make their way to the middle.

Floodlights are on and Chris Woakes has the new ball in hand.

That was the 10th time in 65 innings under Brendon McCullum since June 2022 that England have batted 100 or more overs.

The slight concern at Headingley is that the wind has picked up, there are increasingly dark clouds overhead and I spotted a couple of spots of rain on the lens on the TV camera.

We've avoided any rain so far today but the worst of it was forecast for around 17:00 BST today so we're heading into the danger zone.

England will hope to get out there for a few overs in the gloom at least before any rain arrives.

To be fair I wasn't expecting England to get within six runs of India's total so game on then

Here we go, 0-0 at half time. Come on England!

Some strange decisions by both sides along with some superb cricket. A compelling match which I hope sets the tone for the rest of the series.

    Thanks, Mike.

Not quite parity for England on first innings but as good as - and I think most would have bitten your hand off for that when India were 430-3 midway through the morning session yesterday.

A fascinating third innings will begin after tea. How will India approach it?

Right, this Test is set up very nicely indeed.

I'm going to hand over to Sam Drury for the start of what should be a very interesting India second innings.

Jasprit Bumrah finishes with figures of 5-83 from 24.4 overs at an economy rate of 3.36 - it's his 14th five-fer in his 46th Test.

His fellow seamers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took the other wickets, taking 2-122 and 3-128 respectively, although Krishna was considerably more expensive, going at 6.40 an over.

Ravindra Jadeja held up an end tidily with figures of 0-68 from 23 overs, but Shardul Thakur was costly, conceding 38 runs from his six overs.
