    Northants 171-6 v Leics 429

    That's his 50.

His 12th score of 50 or more in the best season of his career.

He also has six centuries this season.

58 balls with six fours and two sixes.

    Notts 218-4 v Warwicks 258

Notts pass 200 in the 64th over with Haseeb Hameed pushing Michael Booth into the off side for one.

Now he's accelerating. He's down the track to the off spin of Rob Yates to launch the ball down the ground for six.

He's hacking at a ball to Will Young at first slip, who doesn't hold on. Did he even hit that?

    Yes!

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:23 BST 25 September

    Isaac c Hughes b Robinson 4 (Worcs 123 & 124-3 v Sussex 350)

Isaac Mohammed has tried to clip that low off his legs but has got through the shot slightly too early and sent a leading edge spiralling up towards midwicket.

Daniel Hughes judges it well to take a catch over his shoulder running back towards the boundary.

  5. 6 runs

Bartlett over the toppublished at 15:22 BST 25 September

    Northants 167-6 v Leics 429

George Bartlett has only been in for a handful of overs but he's in no mood to hang around.

He waits for the occasional spin of Rishi Patel, who tosses the ball up outside off and watches Bartlett swat the ball down the ground for six.

  6. 'As good as you can expect'published at 15:22 BST 25 September

    Essex 159-0 v Somerset 433

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

A third 100 of the season for Paul Walter and he got there in pretty good time as well with and getting there with a very fine shot.

In fact it's 100 off a 100 balls so that is about as good as you can expect from an opener in first-class cricket.

  7. Tea at Southamptonpublished at 15:20 BST 25 September

    Hants 248 v Surrey 147 & 86-2

The players make their way from a sunlit middle at the Utilita Bowl with Surrey gradually pulling themselves level in the game.

Ben Foakes has 24 and Dom Sibley has 40 as Surrey leave trailing by 15.

  8. 100 runs

100 for Paul Walter...and teapublished at 15:20 BST 25 September

    Essex 159-0 v Somerset 433

A single apiece to Dean Elgar and Paul Walter off Archie Vaughan.

    Driven through extra cover.

One...two! His third century of the season and this one comes in exactly 100 balls with 16 fours and a six.

Tea time and Essex looking serene.

  9. Postpublished at 15:18 BST 25 September

    Kent 23-0 v Derbyshire 698-6 dec

Absolutely agree!! Surely if you’re going to go to 698 you may as well go for the psychological size of 700!

    Paul - Mold

Thanks Paul - I'm glad it wasn't just me!

This of course in reference to Derbyshire's decision to declare on 698-6.

  10. Postpublished at 15:17 BST 25 September

    Essex 155-0 v Somerset 433

Dean Elgar and Paul Walter trade singles off Kasey Aldridge and Walter moves to 97 with one pushed to long on to move to 97.

    He faces Archie Vaughan next.

  11. Postpublished at 15:15 BST 25 September

    Notts 199-4 v Warwicks 258

Width from Nathan Gilchrist and Kyle Verreynne withdraws the bat with a flourish.

    Maiden over.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:14 BST 25 September

    Libby c Coles b Unadkat 72 (Worcs 123 & 124-2 v Sussex 350)

Jaydev Unadkat saw Jake Libby dropped after mix up in the slips when he had 66 but the cordon makes no mistake this time.

A slightly thicker edge removed any indecision between first and second and this time James Coles grabs and holds.

That has been a good innings from Jake Libby but with two down the feeling that Worcs could be struggling by the end of the day has been resurrected.

  13. Postpublished at 15:13 BST 25 September

    Essex 150-0 v Somerset 433

Archie Vaughan bowls a ball that goes straight through Dean Elgar, running away between keeper and first slip for four byes.

The 150 comes up in the 33rd over.

  14. 300 up for Lancashirepublished at 15:11 BST 25 September

    Glamorgan 265 v Lancashire 305-6 - Lancs lead by 40 runs

Lancashire reach 300 and get a second batting point on the board.

They have two new batters in at present after Zain ul Hassan took a couple of wickets.

The latest was Matty Hurst, on 47, who tried to go big with a six to reach a half-century but was bowled through the gate with a full and straight delivery.

Glamorgan have three bowlers on two wickets now - ul Hasan, Timm van der Gugten and Mason Crane.

  15. Postpublished at 15:11 BST 25 September

    Notts 199-4 v Warwicks 258

Whipped through mid wicket by Kyle Verreynne for four runs off Nathan Gilchrist.

Haseeb Hameed is forward to defend against Michael Booth.

Hameed has one hand off the bat to a shorter ball, safely jabbed down to the ground.

A full, wider ball is driven imperiously through cover for four.

  16. 'All looking quite comfortable'published at 15:09 BST 25 September

    Essex 145-0 v Somerset 433

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Can Paul Walter get to 100 before the interval?

It's all looking quite comfortable unlike yesterday which was a pretty good contest between bat and ball. It's very much gone the other way heavily towards the batters. Not much in it for the bowlers, certainly for the seamers and not a great deal for the spinners at this stage either.

  17. Postpublished at 15:04 BST 25 September

    Hants 248 v Surrey 147 & 70-2

Watchful stuff from Ben Foakes and Dom Sibley and given they are still trailing by 31 with two wickets down that is understandable.

Since Ryan Patel holed out at deep midwicket Surrey have scored 41 in 15 overs which is not rapid but they continue to punish the loose ball.

Once they get level we will have a better idea of where these two stand.

  18. PCA not ruling out strike action after county votepublished at 15:03 BST 25 September

    #bbccricket

An interesting update here on the news earlier this week about counties voting to retain the current two-divisional County Championship structure, with each team playing 14 matches, rather than changing to a 12-team top flight of 13 matches per side.

We knew that the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) was unhappy about the plans for reform being rejected. It had advocated for a cut to 12 matches, but supported the 13-match proposal in order to protect player welfare.

Well, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra a little earlier, PCA chief executive Daryl Mitchell said the possibility of players taking strike action has not been ruled out.

"We will be led by the players. The WhatsApp group last night was pretty animated and there were some high emotions.

"We are a union. I don't think any union would rule out the possibility of strike action if their members wanted it."

He added: "I don't think that's where we'd like to get to. It would have a negative impact on the counties and a negative impact on the game, and that's not something we're seeking to do."

You can read more on that here and please do get in touch with your thoughts on this development.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:02 BST 25 September

Van der Merwe c Van Beek Trevaskis 5 (Northants 150-6 v Leics 429)

More runs for Saif Zaib, hooking Logan van Beek to backward square leg for four runs.

Was that deliberate? Zaib stands in the crease and uppercuts over the slips to deep third for four to bring up the innings 150 in the 45th over.

Second slip had a hand to it but fell back and couldn't hold on.

Stuart van der Merwe is out in the next over.

Liam Trevaskis bowls a fairly loose leg side ball, which is swept and top edged to Logan van Beek on the leg side.

  20. 'A good innings for Edavalath'published at 15:01 BST 25 September

    Worcs 123 & 113-1 v Sussex 350

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

    It looked a good one.

The umpiring of lbws in this game for me has been pretty good and Graham Lloyd had a good look at that one before he gave it.

A good innings for Rehaan Edavalath, that will be encouraging for him and the Worcestershire coaching staff not just because he made 45 but because he battled early on against top class and he acquitted himself really well.

He ground it out and found a bit of fluency. It was a nice innings from a young opening batter, he'll be a much more confident player after that innings than he was when he went out there for that horrible little two over session just before lunch.
