  1. Tea at Hovepublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 19 April

    Sussex 402-7 v Surrey

Dan Lawrence wraps up the afternoon session with a tidy over costing a solitary single off the bat of Fynn Hudson-Prentice, who leaves the field on 27.

The hosts are in decent nick in this match although the exit of Danny Lamb, retired hurt, will be a concern.

Lamb initially looked to be feeling his right hand after being hit by a Jordan Clark lifter but also looked in some discomfort with his shoulder. Given he spent time on the sidelines with a shoulder injury last year it will be fingers crossed it is not serious.

That concern apart, the home side will be happy enough with their efforts although missing out on a fourth batting point was frustrating, Surrey tying them down to under 400 in 110 overs.

  2. 'Pears are chipping away'published at 16:07 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 179 & 128-4 v Worcestershire 202

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Hereford & Worcestershire

They might not have got Paul Walter but Worcestershire are chipping away.

  3. Tea in Division Twopublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 19 April

Northants are off to a flier in their first innings at Derbyshire. They're 117-0 with Ricardo Vasconcelos and Luke Procter shining.

Leicestershire keep taking Lancashire wickets at crucial times. The hosts are 235-6 at Old Trafford, and Luke Wells has resumed batting after retiring hurt earlier.

Glamorgan took a couple of Middlesex wickets just before tea - Max Holden was out for 107 and Ryan Higgins went for a single. Middlesex are 256-4 and leading by 57.

They're still playing at Kent with the home side 181-5 in reply to Gloucestershire's 472 all out. Ben Compton has 79.

  4. 'Clark is causing a few problems'published at 16:03 British Summer Time 19 April

    Sussex 401-7 v Surrey

    Isabelle Duncan
    BBC Test Match Special

Jordan Clark is causing a few problems.

He's getting a bit of extra bounce. We talked about his strength and bending his back.

That was a leading edge and it was a very easy catch there at midwicket from Ryan Patel.

  5. 'Quite gloomy again'published at 16:03 British Summer Time 19 April

Durham 224-1 v Yorkshire 307 - bad light stopped play

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It's got quite gloomy here again. The afternoon started with some sunshine but by 3.30pm the lights were on as low, dark cloud drifted in.

On a day where they are playing 104 overs, to try and claw back eight of the overs lost to bad light yesterday, I am not sure how much more action we will see, unless this greyness moves on through.

Yorkshire will be happy to be in the dressing room though because they have struggled with the ball today. Alex Lees has 139 and Emilio Gay 74.

They have put on 202 runs in 284 balls and if they can score three more runs they will break the Durham record, for a second wicket stand against Yorshire.

That was 204 scored by Michael Di Venuto and Will Smith here in 2009.

    Critchley c & b Brookes 5 (Essex 179 & 127-4 v Worcestershire 202)

Ethan Brookes celebrates wicketImage source, Rex Features

Another Essex batter out to a questionable shot selection.

Ethan Brookes drops one slightly short and Matt Critchley heaves it from the crease and skies it off the top edge.

Brookes shuffles round and hangs on to the return catch.

Essex letting the Pears back in this a touch.

The lead's just beyond 100 but they'll want a lot more than that.

  7. 50 runs

for Nottspublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 19 April

    Warwickshire 93 v Nottinghamshire 53-0

Notts putting the Bears effort into context, although it's definitely brighter now the visitors are batting.

Ed Barnard's been introduced and his first ball - a classic loosener - is whacked away over mid-wicket for four by Ben Slater.

He repeats the does four balls later - it's not quite as pure a strike but still gets to the boundary.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 19 April

    Carson c Patel b Clark 6 (Sussex 399-7 v Surrey)

Another one for Jordan Clark and another lifter that causes problems.

Where the first struck Danny Lamb and forced his exit, this one is chipped defensively by Jack Carson to widish midwicket where Ryan Patel takes an easy catch.

  9. Tea at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 19 April

    Durham 224-1 v Yorks 307

The hosts are in complete control of this game at the end of the afternoon session. With Alex Lees is on 139 and Emilio Gay on 74, Yorkshire captain Jonny Bairstow has much to think about over his cuppa.

Not least of which who is going to make a breakthrough because on the evidence of that last session, none of his attack look likely to.

  10. Close call for Walterpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 179 & 120-3 v Worcestershire 202

Paul Walter battingImage source, Rex Features

Worcestershire nearly get key man Paul Walter.

The ball after he sumptuously pulls Jacob Duffy for four he drives hard and edges towards Rob Jones at wide first slip.

It doesn't quite carry, hitting Jones on the left forearm has he tries to scoop it up on the half-volley.

Close but Walter survives as he moves into the 60s.

  11. Lamb retires hurtpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 19 April

    Sussex 389-6 v Surrey

That looks painful... Jordan Clark bangs on and it leaps at Danny Lamb and hits him on his right hand.

After a bit of shaking and treatment that is deemed enough to bring his innings to an end and he is off.

Jack Carson is the new batsman.

  12. 'Wicket always around the corner'published at 15:46 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 179 & 113-3 v Worcestershire 202

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Hereford & Worcestershire

As soon as you think a partnership taking hold...

Jordan Cox has just come down the pitch, he's tried to hoick that and it's gone straight to the fielder.

The theme of this game is every time you think a batter is getting on top, a wicket is just around the corner.

For Worcestershire they would dearly love that wicket to be Paul Walter although they'll be pretty happy to see the back of Cox I fancy.

  13. Postpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 19 April

    Warwickshire 93 v Notts 32-0

Quiet progress from Notts but that's fine. They'll be aware that conditions still favour the bowlers and know the damage someone like Olly Hannon-Dalby can do.

They've kept the returning Bears talisman at arm's length so far.

Until the final ball of his fourth over that gives Ben Slater a touch of width and the left-hander goes up on to his toes and pumps it gloriously off the back foot through the covers.

  14. 100 runs

for Holdenpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 19 April

    Middlesex 247-2 v Glamorgan 199

Max Holden battingImage source, Rex Features

Middlesex number three Max Holden has just brought up his seventh first-class century.

15 fours and a six for the 27-year-old.

The hosts are totally dominant at Lord's. The lead is 48 and they're nowhere near done yet.

  15. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 19 April

    Durham 199-1 v Yorks 307

Jonny Bairstow catches the ballImage source, Getty Images

Visiting skipper Jonny Bairstow has to shake things up here as Durham are coasting against an unthreatening diet of seam bowling. So it is no surprise that Dom Bess is back into the attack.

Alex Lees (121) and Emilio Gay (68) have moved to within 108 of Yorkshire's first innings total and, while there does not look to be a huge amount of turn, the change up in pace may just bring a false shot.

  16. wicket

    Cox c Waite b Duffy 24 (Essex 179 & 111-2 v Worcestershire 202)

Worcestershire celebrate wicketImage source, Rex Features

    Jordan Cox throws it away.

A real lapse from Cox who gives Jacob Duffy the charge and doesn't connect well at all.

Off the splice straight to a gleeful Matthew Waite at mid-on.

    Horrible shot.

    Essex lead is 90.

  17. 50 runs

for Paul Walterpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 179 & 111-2 v Worcestershire 202

Fifty for Paul Walter. His 16th in first-class cricket for Essex and it may be one of his most important.

It's come off 79 balls with seven fours. And he's mixed it up nicely - suitable caution when needed and some biff when necessary.

Jordan Cox has taken a further liking to Tom Taylor with three more boundaries to take the score beyond 100.

  18. 'A super innings from Haines'published at 15:32 British Summer Time 19 April

    Sussex 384-6 v Surrey

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Tom Haines has played superbly well. He's been kept quiet today.

Surrey won't mind where they are in this at the moment. I think they've done a very good job today but that was a super innings from Haines.

He will score a lot of runs in Division One because to me he looks very organised, knows his game and knows where his scoring areas are.

Sussex don't want to lose their way here because this is a good pitch to bat on and we've seen what hard work it has been for Surrey to pick up the six wickets.

  19. Postpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 19 April

    Essex 179 & 92-2 v Worcestershire 202

Jordan Cox has just hit successive boundaries - but with contrasting control - off Tom Taylor.

The first nicely steered through gully along the floor to the fence.

The second a lucky outside edge that would've interested third slip - had there been one.

There has been one for most of the innings but with Essex now building a lead, Pears skipper Brett D'Oliveira is understandably getting a tad less aggressive.

Paul Walter continues to tick along. He's nearing a half-ton.

    Essex's lead nearly 70.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 19 April

    Haines b Atkinson 174 (Sussex 379-6 v Surrey)

Big inside edge on to his stumps.

Tom Haines batted brilliantly both yesterday and this morning/afternoon but that is a tired shot, swinging his bat at a wide one from Gus Atkinson and dragging it on to his leg stump.

Credit to Surrey's bowlers who have laboured away on an unhelpful deck. That is a third for Atkinson.
