We told you earlier that the Indian Premier League has been suspended for a week because of the tensions between India and neighbours Pakistan.

You can read the full story here - but former England captain Michael Vaughan has posted on X: "I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series. Just a thought?"

That would certainly be a logistical headache for someone.

  2. 'Session of toil' for Essexpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 9 May

    Essex v Yorkshire 80-1 - lunch

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Essex Sports Editor

It’s been a session of toil for Essex with the ball and it certainly looks like a good decision from Yorkshire to have a bat, having won the toss.

Shane Snater got the breakthrough, trapping Finley Bean lbw but Essex would’ve liked to see more in the wickets column at the lunch break.

Don’t forget Essex are without bowler Sam Cook who is away with England and when it comes to batting, top scorers Jordan Cox and Paul Walter are both missing through injury.

Sussex have lost four wickets for one run

The wicket of James Coles brings an end to the morning session and completes a huge turnaround in fortunes for Worcs.

James Coles rests dejectedly on his bat after a loose waft outside off stump results in an edge to fourth slip/gully where Ethan Brookes takes the catch.

That is a calamitous passage of play for the hosts who, after a blistering start, have lost four wickets for one run.

  5. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 9 May

    Kent v Glamorgan 128-1

Well played Asa Tribe, who reaches 50 from the final ball of the morning session by pulling an awful waist-high full toss from Jack Leaning out side leg stump for four.

It took the Glamorgan opener 66 balls faced and he and Sam Northeast (41 not out) have so far added 94 in 17 and a bit overs since the dismissal of Zain ul-Hassan.

He was caught at first slip off Kashif Ali for 16 but Kent were unable to produce a second breakthrough, with 18-year-old Ekansh Singh's first three overs of Championship cricket costing him 24 runs.

It is Tribe's fourth half-century in successive red-ball games for Glamorgan - two at the end of last season and now two in this.

Kyle Abbott celebrates a wicket with Hampshire teammates

Kyle Abbott brings the morning session to an end with the wicket of Jack Haynes.

A fine delivery angled in to his pads which flies to James Fuller who takes a catch in the gully by way of insurance.

The decision is leg before and it completes a terrific comeback from the Hampshire bowlers after a fortunate start for Notts saw them reach 62 without loss.

  7. Lunch at Northamptonpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 9 May

    Northants 98-6 v Lancs

A mini-fightback from the home side just before lunch, with Lewis McManus and Calvin Harrison adding 30 so far for the seventh wicket.

However, little doubt about which of the teams is on top after the morning session, with George Balderson taking three wickets for Lancashire and Anderson Phillip two.

  8. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 9 May

    Essex v Yorks 80-1

Yorkshire had been stuck in a rut for the last half-hour or so, with Simon Harmer and Jamie Porter sending down maiden after maiden, but they get moving again in the final over of the session.

Leg-spinner Matt Critchley concedes seven runs, with James Wharton edging the last ball of the over to the third man boundary.

He finishes the morning on seven, with Adam Lyth 39 not out.

  9. 50 runs

for Rob Yatespublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 9 May

    Warwickshire 121-1 v Surrey - lunch

Rob Yates pushes a single to mid-on to end the morning session at Edgbaston, having reached 50 off 93 balls earlier in the over.

He is 51 not out and Tom Latham, who got away with a thin edge past the keeper for four at the start of the over is on 23.

It's been a highly satisfactory for Warwickshire, having been put in by Surrey, who have used six different bowlers in an effort to try and extract something from a docile pitch.

Dan Lawrence claimed the only wicket to fall, bowling Alex Davies for 45 as the Bears skipper tries to swing away a full toss.

  10. Postpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 9 May

    Kent v Glamorgan 114-1

Sam Northeast nudges George Garrett past second slip for four, but he's not in control of the next one which flies just out of the fielder's reach and away for another boundary.

It's three in a row as Northeast clips Garrett to mid-wicket and progresses to 40 not out.

  11. Postpublished at 29 overs

    Warks 111-1 v Surrey

Rob Yates plays too soon as Cameron Steel's opening delivery but a leading edge lobs back over the bowler's head and he takes a single.

Steel drops short later in the over and Tom Latham pulls it away for four to move to 16 not out.

WICKETpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 9 May

    Alsop c Roderick b Taylor 0 (Sussex 80-3 v Worcs)

Not the greatest shot and Tom Alsop has edged a tentative prod forward into the gloves of Gareth Roderick.

Tom Taylor has taken all three Sussex wickets to fall and, after a very bright start for the hosts having been put in, they have lost three wickets for none.

  13. Postpublished at 28 overs

    Warks 102-1 v Surrey

Warwickshire reach 100 with a single for Rob Yates.

He and Tom Latham continue to rotate the strike but the New Zealander takes his life into his hands by going right back onto his stumps for Dan Lawrence's final delivery of the over.

Fortunately, he manages to get bat on ball and that one is a dot.

  14. Postpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 9 May

    Northants 84-6 v Lancs

A brief counter-attack from Calvin Harrison, who flicks George Balderson to the midwicket boundary and then spears another four on the opposite side.

Northamptonshire desperately need a partnership if they're going to post anything resembling a total to work with.

Problem is, after current pair Harrison and Lewis McManus, they don't have a great deal of batting to come.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 9 May

    Clarke lbw b Abbott 6 (Notts 74-3 v Hants)

Good ball traps Joe Clarke on the crease and Notts lose a third.

It is no more than Kyle Abbott deserves after a terrific effort this morning and this one is full and shapes back at his pad.

Suddenly Notts luck, which had been in, looks to be upping sticks and leaving.

  16. 'Tom Clark disappointed'published at 12:49 British Summer Time 9 May

    Sussex 80-2 v Worcs

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Tom Clark looks disappointed as he drags himself off.

It's always a danger when you're padding up. He has a look at the umpire as if to say 'really?'

Having made this great start, Sussex lose two in two. Bradders did say in commentary that on another day Worcestershire might have picked up a couple of wickets, then all of a sudden one goes down and then another follows.

  17. Postpublished at 26.3 overs

    Warks 99-1 v Surrey

Tom Latham throws the bat at a wide one from Matthew Fisher and is fortunate as it bisects first slip and gully and races away to the third man boundary.

Latham hasn't played since a game in New Zealand in March because of a hand injury so he's due a little bit of good fortune.

  18. Postpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 9 May

    Essex v Yorks 73-1

Essex would love a second wicket before lunch and new batter James Wharton is battling to stablish himself at the crease for now.

Wharton plays and misses at Jamie Porter, who's returned for a second stint before the interval and launches that with a maiden.

Two runs so far for Wharton, with Adam Lyth on 37 at the other end.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 9 May

    Clark lbw b Taylor 0 (Sussex 80-2 v Worcs)

And another one bites the dust as Tom Clark lasts just three balls.

Bowling round the wicket at the Sussex left-hander Taylor fires one in from outside off stump and Clark offers no stroke and pads up.

Bad choice as it happens as the finger quite rightly goes up.

Worcs have three in four balls and the complexion of the morning changes with a double wicket maiden.

  20. 50 partnership for Glamorganpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 9 May

    Kent v Glamorgan 87-1

Teenage debutant Ekansh Singh is now in the attack for Kent and Asa Tribe turns him away for a couple to mid-wicket to bring up a 50 partnership with Sam Northeast from 78 balls.

Tribe is 23 not out, one more than his partner.
