... from 172 balls. Three sixes and 18 fours along the way. This knock has to be right up there in terms of quality tons on this grand old ground. It's his career best at his home ground.

The Surrey lead is into three figures, the bonus point is within one big blow.

After that flurry from Warwickshire's bowlers early on, normal service has resumed.

  2. wicket

WICKET: Potts c Prest b Dawson 34published at 12:34 British Summer Time 12 May

    Hampshire 503 v Durham 215-4

Nightwatcher Matthew Potts' innings ends on 34 with a prod that pops up into the leg side and is pouched by Tom Prest.

A third wicket of the innings for Liam Dawson. Durham trail by 288.

  3. 150 runs

150 up for Kentpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 12 May

    Kent 150-4 v Worcestershire 618-7d

Small milestones for Kent. Tick them off one by one. Jack Leaning and Harry FInch are trying to take time out of the game rather than worry too much about the scoreboard.

  4. 'A hearty round of applause at Trent Bridge'published at 12:31 British Summer Time 12 May

    Notts 350-7 v Lancashire 331

    Scott Read

A hearty round of applause from the spectators inside the ground at the arrival of the 350th run of the Nottinghamshire first innings.

18 runs needed from 18 balls for Surrey to claim their fifth batting point.

Jamie Smith and Sean Abbott... you'd struggle to pick two better on the circuit to take on a challenge like this, surely?

  6. Notts gain third batting pointpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 12 May

    Notts 350-7 v Lancashire 331

With four balls to spare, Nottinghamshire have claimed their third batting bonus point and sixth in total in this Division One match against Lancashire.

England spinner Tom Hartley is bowling for the visitors, who have been unable to take a wicket so far on day three.

Haseeb Hameed, who has never before made a double century in first-class cricket, is 167 not out.

  7. Postpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 12 May

    Kent 146-4 v Worcestershire 618-7d

New balls at Canterbury. Worcestershire win the discussion with the umpires that the 50-over old ball is misshapen and are given permission to use a different one.

These things can be useful sometimes, a break in concentration and some new unknown quantity to play on the mind of the nervy batters. You'd imagine Jack Leaning and Harry Finch are nervy. There is a lot of pressure on their shoulders at present.

They have combined for 12 runs in the 10 overs and change which they have been together now.

  8. 'A remarkable start to the third day'published at 12:22 British Summer Time 12 May

    Glamorgan 411 v Sussex 278 & 60-5

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

A remarkable start to the third day in sunny Cardiff, where Division Two leaders Sussex lost five wickets for 10 runs in the space of six overs as they looked to clear a deficit of 133 on first innings.

Mir Hamza roared in from the River Taff end to remove Sussex's three left-handed Toms - Clark, Haines and Alsop - in successive overs with a hint of swing on slightly humid conditions.

Then medium-pacer Andy Gorvin got a little lift with his first delivery to star man Cheteshwar Pujara, who was judged to have edged behind, and three balls later Gorvin found some movement to visitors’ captain John Simpson, who was lbw to complete a pair.

It's been a game of wickets falling in clusters, and Sussex will need the same sort of lower-order resistance they managed in the first innings as Fynn Hudson-Prentice started aggressively, though the possibility of thunderstorms later and the probability of rain tomorrow may come to their aid.

  9. Postpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 12 May

    Surrey 419-8 v Warwickshire 343

Jamie Smith moves on to 134* with a big, huge in fact, six, walking down the pitch towards Will Rhodes and picking up the first ball of his over over the deep square rope. That is the longest boundary too. He is a strong chap.

Smith and Sean Abbott are going along at just under a run a ball for the dozen overs they have been together. The Surrey lead is up to 76 and there are five overs left for them to get the 31 runs they need for maximum batting points.

  10. Potts boundary takes Durham to 200published at 12:17 British Summer Time 12 May

    Hampshire 503 v Durham 200-3

Matthew Potts steers James Fuller to the off-side boundary to take Durham to 200-3, as Hampshire toil in search of their first wicket of the day.

The visitors still need about 154 runs to avoid the follow-on and they are looking in good shape to do so in the Southampton sunshine.

  11. Postpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 12 May

    Northants 171 v Glos 409 & 145-2

Gloucestershire's lead at Northants is edging towards 400.

They have lost Ollie Price for seven since our last update, but opener Cameron Bancroft is still going strong on 72 not out.

  12. 'Could be over by lunch'published at 12:09 British Summer Time 12 May

    Glamorgan 411 v Sussex 278 & 37-5

    Edward Bevan
    BBC Radio Wales

This could be all over before lunch, the way things are going.

Take a picture of the scoreboard, incredible. An excellent over from Andy Gorvin.

  13. Postpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 12 May

    Hampshire 503 v Durham 194-3

A break in play at Utilita Bowl as Durham's Matthew Potts, on 22 not out, is hit on the helmet by a James Fuller bouncer.

    He is fine to continue.

  14. 6 runs

Abbott brings up Surrey's 400published at 12:08 British Summer Time 12 May

    Surrey 400-8 v Warwickshire 343

Sean Abbott, Surrey's number 10, has brought up the fourth batting bonus point with a lusty blow to cow corner for six off Will Rhodes.

With Craig Miles out of action with an ankle injury, their rotation is going to be a little short and that is why they desperately wanted to avoid a situation like this... the new ball has lost its shine, Jamie Smith is set on 122* and Abbott is, well, Abbott.

These two have added 52 from 56 balls for this ninth wicket, so far...

  15. 'Hamza has come into his own in this match'published at 12:03 British Summer Time 12 May

    Glamorgan 411 v Sussex 278 & 32-5

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Slim pickings for Mir Hamza in the first four matches with a wicket apiece, but he really has come into his own in this match with four wickets in the first innings and now the first three in this second innings.

  16. Sussex in troublepublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 12 May

    Glamorgan 411 v Sussex 278 & 32-5

In Division Two, Glamorgan are racing through Sussex's batting line-up in the second innings, taking five wickets in the first 10 overs.

Mir Hamza has 3-11 from his five overs and Andy Gorvin has got in on the act too with two wickets in his first over, including the prize scalp of India's Cheteshwar Pujara.

Sussex still trail by 101 and could be on the wrong end of an innings defeat.

  17. Postpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 12 May

    Kent 138-4 v Worcestershire 618-7d

Harry Finch and Jack Leaning are trying to steady the Kent ship as Jason Holder comes into the attack.

Just three runs have come from their first 28 deliveries together.

The follow-on target is still 330 runs away.

  18. Slow burner in Southamptonpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 12 May

    Hampshire 503 v Durham 191-3

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

As we approach the end of the first hour of play on day three in Southampton, only 13 wickets have fallen in the game.

At this stage I am struggling to see how either side ends up in a position to push for a win. Equally, there are only two games in the country where a third innings has begun, so it is a similar story elsewhere.

Both sides have taken their time with the bat. The run rate for Hampshire was 3.4 an over. Durham are currently pootling along at 3.2.

David Bedingham has reached 50 for the third time this season and Matthew Potts remains in the middle as well - Bedingham has 60 and Potts 20, but Potts has also faced 52 balls.

  19. Notts into the leadpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 12 May

    Notts 332-7 v Lancashire 331

Nottinghamshire's first objective this morning was to earn a first-innings lead and they have done so with few alarms.

However, they have just survived a dropped chance - Olly Stone drove straight back at George Balderson and the bowler couldn't hold onto the opportunity.

    Surrey 384-8 v Warwickshire 343

Jamie Smith celebrates a century for SurreyImage source, Getty Images

Jamie Smith is only 23 years old but has put his team on his back in this innings with a glorious century.

He moves to 114 with a gorgeous back-foot punch through the covers for four off Oliver Hannon-Dalby and he and Sean Abbott have ticked the hosts along to a lead of 39 and - at this rate - within a couple of overs of another batting point.

Warwickshire are giving Abbott some short stuff and he's tucked in with aplomb so far, though Will Rhodes got a (painful) fingertip to one lusty pull shot which flew past him to the fence.
