Surrey v Notts 163-5
A maiden from the outstanding Gus Atkinson.
He goes past the edge of Lyndon James.
Surrey v Notts 163-5
Dan Worrall nips one off the seam just past Lyndon James' edge.
The Notts man is averaging just over 50 with the bat this summer.
Just the single from the over.
We have eyes on Taunton, Hove, Edgbaston and Leicester to see if we might get a little play there.
We've seen just about everything today.....which end is the gold at?
Surrey v Notts 162-5
Three more balls for Gus Atkinson to complete his 15th over.
Lyndon James creams the first one through the covers for a boundary.
They take a single off the final ball.
The Oval is now bathed in some lovely September sunshine.
Surrey v Notts 157-5
A rain delay brought an early tea and in those 20 minutes the shower has passed over so we're back out and ready to crack on.
So far The Oval is the only place where we've had cricket today.
The players are ready to go for the final session.
Somerset v Hants
Tea is being taken at Taunton where adverse weather conditions including strong winds continue to prevent the players getting out there.
Just a quick reminder that the umpires are about to take another look at Hove, where Sussex and Yorkshire are waiting to begin their game - a game with significance as far as possible relegation from Division One is concerned.
Surrey v Notts 157-5 - tea
Mark Church
BBC Radio London commentator
They've got the big sheet out there and it makes sense to have tea now.
It is one of those sunshine and showers days but, if you look at the fact that we've had no other cricket elsewhere in the County Championship today, we'll take whatever we're given here.
I think that means that we'll have a 41-over final session in the day.
Durham v Worcs
Martin Emmerson
BBC Radio Newcastle
The umpires abandoned play after a 3:00pm inspection, ironically in brilliant sunshine.
The next band of rain is due in at 4.30pm and they fear it may be difficult to get the covers back on in high winds.
So we try again tomorrow.
Surrey v Notts 157-5
All that grey cloud we hard earlier and not a drop of rain fell.
Out comes the sun, here comes the rain.
They're going to take tea so hopefully this will pass over in the next 20 minutes.
Derbyshire v Glamorgan - no play on day one
The match at Derby goes the same way as those at Bristol and Old Trafford.
Derbyshire say the strength of the winds means there are safety concerns about trying to remove the covers.
We don't have a 'wind stopped play' graphic. Sorry.
Surrey v Notts 157-5
Gus Atkinson squares-up Kyle Verreynne as the ball thwacks into Ben Foakes' gloves.
Verreynne gets off strike with a single and will be pleased to do so.
The sun has come out but we're going off as the rain has got harder.
Surrey v Notts 156-5
Five runs from a quiet Tom Curran over.
It's raining again.
Sigh...
Leicestershire v Kent - start delayed
It's not looking hopeful at Grace Road.
The club say high winds remain and there will be another inspection at 4:00pm following an early tea.
In Leicestershire's position, promoted and 25 points clear at the top of the table, it's not a major headache - except perhaps for gate receipts - but they will surely want to make sure of the Division Two title on the field, and not off it.
Surrey v Notts 151-5
Gus Atkinson whistles one past the edge of Lyndon James' bat.
He's getting up around the 84/85 mph mark regularly today.
He goes past the edge another couple of times just for good measure.
The final ball is over pitched and James gets some respite with a straight drive for four to bring up the Notts 150.
Surrey v Notts 147-5
Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Radio Surrey
Joe Clarke will be very annoyed with himself for his wicket. He was looking so good.
What we've seen so far in this game is that a number of the Notts batters have got themselves in and just as you think things will go on they've also got themselves out.
The pressure is on Notts to make a significant total in an excellent session for Surrey.
Surrey v Notts 147-5
Three runs from the latest Tom Curran over.
A bit of a rebuilding job needed by Notts.
Surrey v Notts 144-5
Dave Bracegirdle
BBC Radio Nottingham commentator
I know in cricket we don't like to delve too much into the weather but thankfully, for the time being, that nasty menacing dark stuff seems to have left this part of the capital.
Good overheads once again.
Surrey v Notts 144-5
Gus Atkinson has 3-26 from his 13 overs.
This Surrey seam attack just keeps coming at you and Notts have gone from 75-1 to 144-5.

Dougy: "Well, what a surprise, only one match started on time, which is hardly surprising seeing as it is the middle of September (which genius at the ECB thought it was a good idea to introduce another competition into an already overcrowded schedule!!)."
Anon: "The County Championship just gets relegated further down, and into miserable September. Before the break-off for Hundred frolics, Division One top and bottom were both close and interestingly poised. The last set became all (apart from Worcs match) about who could scrape a few bonus points together in between the rain, and this one's looking even worse. And will next week be better? Lots of good contests for 11 game weeks, now just an embarrassing nuisance that has to be fitted into gaps in autumn weather."
