WICKETpublished at 15:08 BST 16 September

    Zaib c Bracey b Akhter 76 (Glos v Northants 178-6)

Saif Zaib remains on six Championship centuries this season.

That is a beauty by Zaman Akhter which takes a thin outside edge and it's an easy catch for James Bracey behind the stumps.

Zaib didn't do a lot wrong there, it was just a very good ball.

  2. 'Exceptional from Fisher'published at 15:08 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 41-3

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Exceptional bowling from Matt Fisher and he's getting this ball to do is from around the wicket, hitting a good leg and just nipping it back.

If you're early in your innings and even if you've been out there for 20 deliveries, the thing is the stumps are in play and he is keeping all three stumps in play here.

It's terrific bowling, there's nothing the batter could do.

    Leics 264-4 v Kent

    How did that miss?

Joey Evison finds a bit of movement off the seam, beats the inside edge of Stevie Eskinazi's bat but somehow it doesn't quite touch off stump.

  4. 50 runs

    50 partnershippublished at 15:06 BST 16 September

    Warwicks v Essex 162-3

Charlie Allison and Matt Critchley rack-up a 50 stand for the fourth wicket.

Allison has moved to 39 - he was dropped when he had made only six.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Abellpublished at 15:05 BST 16 September

    Somerset 171-5 v Hants

Tom Abell has followed up his century against Yorkshire last week with a half century here.

It is the fifth of his season and it is brought up with a beautifully balanced and timed leg side stroke off Eddie Jack for four.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:04 BST 16 September

    McCann lbw b Fisher 11 (Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 42-4)

    Yeah...

A ninth lbw decision of the game.

Matt Fisher knows he has Freddie McCann and doesn't bother looking back at the umpire.

Eight wickets in the match for Fisher.

  7. 100 run lead for Nottspublished at 15:04 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 42-3

It might not seem much and they'll need plenty more but it just shows how important that 58 run first innings lead is for Notts.

The advantage is now 100 overall - what do we think? Another 120/130 might be enough?

As Kevin Howells says (see 3:02 entry), what a great game at The Oval. Perhaps not a lot of fun for the batters, given the seamer-friendly conditions, but a gripping contest between the title rivals. Which way do you think it's going to go? Get in touch.

  9. 'What a tussle between the top two'published at 15:02 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 41-3

    Kevin Howells
    BBC Test Match Special commentator

What a tussle between the top two for the Championship 2025!

Which way is it going to go? Quite frankly nobody can tell you right now.

It's going the way of the bowlers.

  10. Postpublished at 15:00 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 41-3

Jack Haynes is the next man in for Notts and clips Matt Fisher away for four with his first ball and then edges just short of Dom Sibley at first slip.

The ball is moving both ways.

  11. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 14:57 BST 16 September

    Lancs v Middx 61-2

Early promise from the hosts, who reduced Middlesex to 12-2, has rather fizzled out at Old Trafford where Leus de Plooy and Josh de Caires have put on an untroubled 49 for the third wicket.

But yet more rain has come to dampen everybody's enthusiasm with the players trooping off once again for another rain break. Frustrating.

  12. wicket

    Another one!

The wickets keep tumbling - that's the 12th today.

Joe Clarke is pinned by Matt Fisher.

    Notts lead by 95 runs.

Surrey showing why they are champions.

  13. 'Good decision by Burns to go with Fisher'published at 14:55 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 37-2

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Joe Clarke made 29 in the first innings as he joins Freddie McCann.

It was a good decision from Rory Burns to go with Matt Fisher - get him into the attack early on whilst he's riding the crest of the wave after his first innings fifer.

  14. Women's One-Day Cup updatepublished at 14:54 BST 16 September

Kate Cross takes a wicketImage source, Getty Images

Lancashire have taken three wickets with the new ball - two of them by England's Kate Cross - to leave The Blaze 41-3 in the 11th over.

The Blaze need another 201 to reach the final, with Hampshire and Surrey set to meet in the second semi on Wednesday.

  15. Postpublished at 14:54 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 37-2

Dan Worrall hurries one past Freddie McCann's outside edge.

Surrey sense they can still wrestle back the initiative.

Oooh so close as McCann gets a thick edge to Worrall's final ball of the over - it's at a lovely height to third slip - if only Surrey had one.

Four runs and the lead moves to 95.

  16. Postpublished at 14:52 BST 16 September

    Somerset 157-5 v Hants

Kasey Aldridge and Tom Abell are building a nice partnership (up to 58 now) which is just what the team doctor ordered when they were 99-5.

Aldridge, who had a loan spell with Durham during the T20 Blast and will join them next season, is doing his best to show Somerset what they will be missing.

He has crunched James Fuller for two fours and has 28 from his 53 balls while Tom Abell is all balance and class and 40 runs from 86.

  17. 50 runs

for Kiran Carlsonpublished at 14:52 BST 16 September

    Derbys v Glamorgan 137-6

Kiran Carlson steers Ben Aitchison square for a single to reach a 120-ball 50. A very valuable innings for the promotion-chasing visitors.

Timm van der Gugten flicks Zak Chappell for four at the other end, the third boundary of his innings so far.

  18. 150 runs

150 up for Essexpublished at 14:50 BST 16 September

    Warwicks v Essex 152-3

Matt Critchley finds the boundary and up comes the Essex 150.

Not much happening for the Warwickshire bowlers at the moment.

  19. Postpublished at 14:49 BST 16 September

    Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 30-2

Joe Clarke is the next man in for Notts to join Freddie McCann.

Eleven wickets have fallen at The Oval today.

We'll see plenty more on this evidence.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:48 BST 16 September

    Hameed lbw b Fisher 14 (Surrey 173 v Notts 231 & 29-2)

Matt Fisher dishes up a lovely half volley for Haseeb Hameed to unfurl the cover drive - lovely to watch unless you're the bowler.

But not so lovely with the next ball as the Notts skipper is trapped lbw.

He doesn't like it but Hameed has to go.

    Notts lead by 87 runs.
