  1. Originals 68-2published at 50 balls

Craig Overton is finished already - his final set costs four runs and he closes with figures of 1-28.

Southern Brave have done well since the powerplay - just the one boundary (from ball 26), with just 23 runs from 25 balls.

  2. Originals 64-2published at 45 balls

The big-hitting Heinrich Klaasen comes out at four - the South African is now retired from international cricket so he can concentrate on his short-form franchise sides.

He doesn't score off his first two deliveries, but blocks out a yorker and runs a single off Mills' last ball.

That is Buttler's shot but it is one of the hardest to play. He just couldn't slice it and it went sky high.

Klaasen is not a bad batter to come in in this situation.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 42 balls

    Buttler c Coles b Mills 22 (Ori 63-2)

    Lifted out to deep cover!

Jos Buttler tries to smash Tymal Mills over mid-off but doesn't get his shot right, sending the ball into the hands of James Coles on the ropes.

He knew he was in trouble as soon as he hit it.

This is as good a start as Manchester Originals could have hoped for. This is what experience does. These two have played so many franchises around the world.

Phil Salt will be full of confidence.

  6. Originals 63-1published at 40 balls

Spin at both ends now as New Zealand's Michael Bracewell comes on to bowl.

Four singles to start, the first a leg bye, before Phil Salt cracks a two out to long-off.

After eight boundaries in the first 26 deliveries, we haven't had one in the last 14.

  7. Originals 57-1published at 35 balls

A first sight of spin from Southern Brave as James Coles comes into the attack.

A quintet of singles come from his first set.

Buttler is focusing on his own performance. He had a tough time captaining for England, the game can beat you up sometimes. But he seems to have bounced back really well.

He will enjoy not worrying about too much other than scoring runs for his team.

  9. Originals 52-1published at 30 balls

Craig Overton delivers a half-volley for an opening delivery and with both mid-on and mid-off up it's child's play for Jos Buttler to lift him down the ground for four.

A further two into the covers sees Originals pass 50 in 29 balls.

  10. Originals 45-1published at 25 balls

The veteran Chris Jordan will bowl the last set of the powerplay.

Phil Salt edges his opening delivery through an empty cordon for another boundary, but only three singles follow from the next four balls.

These next five balls are really key. Chris Jordan is an important bowler.

The batters will be wanting to get as many runs as possible, even if that means losing a wicket.

  12. 6 runs

    Originals 38-1published at 20 balls

    And six more!

Too straight from Overton with his penultimate delivery and Phil Salt lashes the ball away over fine leg.

Salt then takes a single to mid-on from the final ball of the set to move to 27 from 12 deliveries.

Manchester Originals are showing a lot of intent in these first 25 balls. It's a big ground Old Trafford so powerplays are really important to get boundaries.

  14. 6 runs

    Originals 31-1published at 17 balls

    Fended away... for six!

A nasty Craig Overton bumper has Phil Salt all of a fluster, but the ball skims his raised bat and flies over the boundary at third.

Reece Topley has been a real asset for Southern Brave over the years. He gets bounce because he is so tall and he always gets a lot of lift from the surface.

As a batter, you think that the ball is sometimes fuller than it really is.

  16. Originals 24-1published at 15 balls

    Consecutive fours for Jos Buttler!

The first is rather fortuitous, as Reece Topley's delivery breaks through his advance, skims the bat and flies away to the ropes.

The second is far more controlled, dropping into a paddle to lift the ball down to fine leg, bouncing just short of the ropes and then over.

He goes for the paddle again from Topley's final delivery, but it isn't the right delivery for it and he ends up sort of sweeping to a short fine leg.

Phil Salt’s powerplay strike rate since the start of 2024 is 166. Of the 17 batters with 1000+ runs in the powerplay since then, Salt’s SR is fourth highest.

Buttler and Salt together are two of the best white-ball players around. This is a daunting prospect for any bowler in the powerplay.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10 balls

    Hurst c Jordan b Overton 2 (Ori 10-1)

    Clipped to mid-on!

Matty Hurst tries to clear the ring, but mis-times his shot and lofts Craig Overton's delivery into the hands of Chris Jordan for a simple catch.

An early breakthrough for Southern Brave, but here comes Jos Buttler...

This wicket looks an absolute belter. When Phil Salt gets going, there's not much that can stop him and Reece Topley is on the wrong end of it here.
