  1. Postpublished at 11:06 25 May

    Kent v Essex 292-4

Joey Evison offers a bit of width to his old mate Jordan Cox who needs no second invitation to slash through the covers for a no-doubt four. He moves onto 55 and Essex glide towards a second batting bonus point.

Grant Stewart takes the new ball from the opposite end.

  2. Can Surrey fight back on day two?published at 11:05 25 May

    Hants 104-1 v Surrey 127

Cam Steel opens up with spin for Surrey and Nick Gubbins gets the scoreboad ticking straightaway, flickign the first ball for a single.

Toby Albert takes a single to take his overnight score to 35.

Two from the over and a tidy start.

Sean Abbott to open up at the other end.

  3. WICKET Northeast c Cox b Currie 61published at 11:04 25 May

    Leicestershire v Glamorgan 352-9

A big moment for Scott Currie at Grace Road - there is his maiden five-for in first-class cricket.

His first ball of the day sees Sam Northeast caught behind down the leg side by keeper Ben Cox.

    Strangled.

  4. Postpublished at 11:03 25 May

    Durham 178-6 v Somerset 171

Craig Overton starts day two for Somerset with ball in hand.

David Bedingham is quickly under way with an easy single to move to 101 not out.

  5. Play under way in Worcesterpublished at 11:02 25 May

    Worcs 0-0 Notts

We’ll be making up for lost time after losing the first day and Ed Pollock will face the first ball of the match, delivered by Luke Fletcher.

Fletcher is back in the squad and on the money, but the Pears opener is happy to leave outside off stump.

    Maiden.

  6. New ball taken by Kentpublished at 11:02 25 May

    Kent v Essex 287-4

New day, new ball for the hosts. If Wes Agar was fit he'd be taking it, but he's in the dressing room nursing a shoulder injury so Joey Evison will take the fresh cherry to start the day, with Michael Pepper on strike.

Second ball of the day Evison angles one in which thuds Pepper's pads but he's got a bit of bat on that and the appeal is strangled.

Jordan Cox has 51* on his Canterbury return at the other end.

  7. 'Bears will be happy enough'published at 11:01 25 May

    Lancs v Warwickshire 89-3

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

Warwickshire will be happy enough with 89-3, it doesn't look stellar on the scoreboard but I think in awkward batting conditions both on the ground and in the air, I think that wasn't bad.

They will hope it will be easier for batting today with the sun out but I think they regard the pitch with a degree of suspicion.

  8. 'Batting might be easier today'published at 11:00 25 May

    Somerset 171 v Durham 177-6

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It's a lovely day here at Chester Le Street, it was very grey and overcast yesterday.

Durham have the slenderest of leads of six runs and I'm thinking that batting might be a bit easier today because it's been a nice sunny morning so far.

  9. Abbott happy 'something clicked'published at 10:56 25 May

    Hants 102-1 v Surrey 127 (play starts 11:00)

    Kyle AbbottImage source, PA Media

Kyle Abbott was delighted to make the most of a more receptive pitch at the Utilita Bowl as Hampshire bowled out Division One leaders Surrey for just 127 on day one of their Championship game.

In their three previous home matches this season, opposing teams made scores of 455, 484 and 432 in their first innings - but a post-lunch spell of 5-18 by Abbott ensured Surrey would not get anywhere near that kind of total.

"There were times when we were fielding in those games in those three games when you wondered where a wicket was going to come from," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"I didn't feel great in the spell before (lunch), I felt a bit lethargic. But something clicked in the second over after lunch, I got a lucky one off (Dan) Lawrence. The clouds came over and it started to swing a bit."

  10. Hameed puts Worcestershire inpublished at 10:53 25 May

Worcs v Notts (start 11:00 BST)

Nottinghamshire skipper Haseeb Hameed has won the toss and has decided to bowl first.

Hosts Worcestershire make two changes to the team which were beaten by Surrey last time out.

Pace bowler Adam Finch returns after illness and replaces Yadvinder Singh, while Ed Pollock comes in for batter Kashif Ali who is taking a short break from cricket.

Luke Fletcher comes into the Notts attack in place of England paceman Olly Stone, the one change to the Notts side beaten by Hampshire on Monday.

Worcs: Libby, Roderick, Jones, Hose, Pollock, D'Oliveira (c), Waite, Smith, Leach, Finch, Gibbon.

Notts: Hameed (c), Slater, Young, Clarke, Haynes, Moores, James, Harrison, Fletcher, Pennington, Paterson.

  12. Bedingham looks to extend Durham leadpublished at 10:49 25 May

It's been the purplest of purple patches for Durham's David Bedingham - purpler even than Prince's Purple Rain.

He needs only six runs on the second morning at the Riverside to reach 800 Championship runs for the season.

His unbeaten 100 enabled his side to end day one with a narrow lead over Somerset, his fourth successive century in the competition.

Milestones apart, if Bedingham can see off a Somerset attack freshened up by a night's sleep, and if the Durham tail can stay with him, he will be looking to turn their current slender lead into something more substantial.

  13. Kent hoping for big moments to swing their waypublished at 10:47 25 May

Kent in the nets this morning, but they'll need six more wickets or a declaration before they get a chance to bat

There have been a couple of potentially pivotal moments in this encounter already, Tom Westley winning the toss on what looks a lovely batting surface perhaps the biggest of all.

Kent overseas bowler Wes Agar sloping off the field nursing a shoulder injury after a diving stop in the field before lunch may prove another, but in his absence his teammates put in a battling display, full of heart, to prevent Essex from completely running away with this game on the opening day.

Joey Evison and Arafat Bhuiyan in particular might feel unfortunate not to have more to show for their efforts.

The recalled Nick Browne (65) and Dean Elgar (77) put on 146 for the opening wicket but Kent battled gamely back to take four wickets for the addition of just 84 runs.

As the shadows lengthened Jordan Cox (51 not out) and Michael Pepper (35*) steadied the ship and put the visitors in sight of further batting points in the morning session.

  14. Davies seeking to wrestle back initiativepublished at 10:41 25 May

    Lancs v Warwickshire 89-3 (play starts 11:00)

    Let's try again, shall we?

Drizzle and bad light brought an early end to the opening day at Old Trafford which saw the entire first session washed out and just 39 overs possible in total.

Warwickshire chose to bat first and made a solid start until Rob Yates shouldered arms to Tom Bailey, who went on to pick up the scalps of Will Rhodes and Ed Barnard in a fine spell to record figures of 3-25 from 13 overs on his return to the side.

The forecast is much better today so Bears skipper Alex Davies will seek to build on his 47 not out overnight back on his old stomping ground.

  15. Pujara has Lord's century in sightspublished at 10:37 25 May

    Middlesex v Sussex 295-4 (play starts 11:00)

    Cheteshwar PujaraImage source, Rex Features

There are few more reliable players around the county circuit than Sussex's Cheteshwar Pujara.

A century at Lord's is special for any player and that will be true if he adds nine more to his overnight 91 not out, even though he made a superlative 231 at the home of cricket two years ago.

John Simpson scored a century for Middlesex in that same match, but this time will be targeting one for Sussex as he resumes on 71 not out.

Together they have added 131 for the fifth wicket to put the Division Two leaders in a healthy position.

  16. Weather outlookpublished at 10:35 25 May

Best not to look too far ahead, judging by the current forecast for Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

For today, the BBC Weather summary says: "Eastern England will cloud over with spells of showery rain edging in from the North Sea. Further north and west, sunny spells."

  17. Play to start on time at New Roadpublished at 10:32 25 May

Worcestershire v Nottinghamshire - no play on day one

Worcestershire coach Alan Richardson talks to chief executive Ashley GilesImage source, PA Media

Good news for Worcestershire supporters - play will start at 11am as scheduled this morning after an earlier inspection.

It wasn't the homecoming Worcestershire had been hoping for yesterday, with no play possible on the opening day against Notts.

Following winter floods which forced the Pears to play their first two home games at Kidderminster, stubborn damp patches in the bowlers' run-ups prevented the teams from reaching the middle.

So the first game of Championship cricket at New Road since mid-September - Central Sparks played Sunrisers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup last Sunday - is less than half-an-hour away.

It didn't go according to plan for Division One's top two on the opening day of County Championship round eight.

Surrey and Somerset found themselves playing catch-up after being bowled out for under 200 by Hampshire and Durham.

Third-placed Essex, by contrast, have the foundation for a big score at Canterbury, while in Division Two Derbyshire's Matthew Lamb played the innings of the day with an unbeaten 186 at Bristol.

Welcome to our coverage of day two. Play is scheduled to start at 11:00.
