    What a delivery.

Abrar Ahmed has kept things simple. Nine balls it has taken for him to get a wicket. It beats the outside edge and hits the top of off stump. The coolest of celebrations - bread and butter baby.

    Abrar Ahmed gets the breakthrough.

    Conway b Abrar 10 (NZ 39-1)

    Abrar Ahmed strikes!

There was a couple which really stayed low in Abrar's first over and it's another delivery of that nature which flummoxes Devon Conway as the ball skips on into the New Zealand opener's off stump.

Conway, perhaps, guilty of getting a little stuck on the crease as the ball spun a fraction to beat his defensive prod.

Naseem Shah, who has a haircut which looks like he could have time travelled straight from Pakistan's 1992 World Cup-winning team, has found a bit of rhythm after changing ends.

However, he's not getting much luck. Young slaps one over cover, rather fortunately, to pick up four.

Will Young and Devon Conway taking a bit of a look at Abrar Ahmed, who concedes two runs off the bat and a wide from his first over.

Conway has to really get down to dig one which stays low.

Here's that injury that Fakhar Zaman suffered a little bit earlier. He must have felt something pop.

Seems to be moving okay now, though.

Spin for the first time today, in the form of Abrar Ahmed.

A lovely shot from Will Young, it was a fraction short from Shaheen Afridi.

Young opens the face of the blade and plays it through backward point. At this time of the game I love to look at the projected score.

The projected score is 570 - that would be a world record.

Will Young stays patient to a tight over from the Pakistan seamer before he stylishly square drives Naseem to the boundary for four.

    Pure timing.

Some good news for Pakistan. Fakhar Zaman is back out on the field

It's good running by Will Young and Devon Conway.

In the Champions Trophy against Pakistan, New Zealand are winning 3-0. But at the minute it's 50-50 with the two teams.

Will Young and Devon Conway working the ball cleverly into the gaps while cashing in on the bad balls. Smart batting from the Kiwi openers.

Naseem Shah gives the former a freebie on his pads to at the start of the fourth over and Young clinically glances it to the boundary for four.

It's all about how much confidence Pakistan have.

Traditionally, at this stadium there's not a lot on offer and it's a batting track.

    It's a batting paradise.

  12. NZ 17-0published at 3 overs

Shaheen Afridi decides to dig the fourth ball of his second over into the pitch. It skips on to Devon Conway a little quicker than expected, but he's able to work it behind square for four.

The outfield at the National Bank Stadium is rapidooo.

There was a bit of an imbroglio over whether the flag of India would be flown at the grounds in Pakistan, alongside all the other nations taking part in the Champions Trophy, over the past few days.

India, of course, are playing all their games for this tournament in UAE but can confirm their flag is fluttering away on top of the stands at the National Bank Stadium with the other seven teams taking part in the event.

New Zealand have picked up their first boundary - albeit rather fortuitously - off the penultimate ball of the second over after a thick edge off Devon Conway's bat from a Naseem Shah delivery squirts away through square leg for four.

In T20 it's a high-scoring ground, at the National Stadium in Karachi.

With 50 over cricket, the average score is just shy of 300, so it's still a high-scoring ground.

Fakhar Zaman had been carrying a knee injury in recent weeks, but is now walking back around the boundary with the Pakistan physio. We'll keep an eye on that one - he would be a massive loss to the hosts if he's injured.

Left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi presents a beautiful seam position to the left-handed Devon Conway, and gets the ball to nip into his pad prompting a vociferous appeal.

A brief conflab with Mohammad Rizwan, but that looked to be slipping down leg.

    Fakhar Zaman is going off.

Really innocuous, he didn't get his knee stuck in the ground.

Will Young drives Shaheen Afridi through the covers to get New Zealand up and running.

We have some early drama though after Fakhar Zaman does himself an injury after chasing off in pursuit of the ball. He's able to stop the boundary, but looks in some trouble here.

Jet planes are still roaring over the National Bank Stadium in Karachi - a few wannabe Mavericks leaving their mark on proceedings.

This is, of course, the first time Pakistan have hosted a major ICC event since 1996 when they co-hosted the 50-over World Cup with India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi is limbering up at the top of his mark. New Zealand opener Will Young has just scraped his guard into the pitch.

Two giant flags have just been unfurled at the National Bank Stadium, some fireworks are going off, and the ICC tournament anthem is playing over the public address system.

The president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari is on hand for some pre-match chin wagging and introductions with the actual Champions Trophy itself as the country's answer to the Red Arrows do a fly past trailing green and white colours.

We'll have the national anthems then play will get under way shortly after.
