  1. 'I trust the young players'published at 11:06 BST

Chelsea v Liverpool (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Chelsea

A final word from Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca on adapting to absences:

"I think it's a fact that I really trust the young players - not just those that we buy but those from the academy. We gave games to [Josh] Acheampong, leaving senior players on the bench, this shows that I trust the young players.

"The same thing happened with Ty [Tyrique George], I really trust the players we have.

"As you say, we have four or five defenders out, but we're going to try to adapt and find a solution for tomorrow."

And Maresca's [lack of an] update on Cole Palmer's groin injury: "I don't have an update, we have a meeting this week to make a decision."

Maresca talks about injuries. Is it not a consequence of spending the close season playing a meaningless tournament in America, which may have been lucrative for the club but detrimental to the team? I do not see them repeating a top-4 finish.

  3. Liverpool are 'best team in England'published at 10:54 BST

Chelsea v Liverpool (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Chelsea

More from Enzo Maresca on Saturday's opponents Liverpool:

"I consider them the best team in England at the moment. They showed that, they won the Premier League. Where we are in this moment, we're improving, we're trying to solve problems, find solutions. At the end, we're going to be there - close."

  4. Postpublished at 10:53 BST

Chelsea v Liverpool (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca finished his news conference by assessing the players missing from his squad, which he tallied at eight players, including suspensions, but did not list by name.

He had no update on a potential return date for Cole Palmer, who he said would be assessed further this week.

    More to follow.

  5. 'I don't see any discipline problem'published at 10:49 BST

Chelsea v Liverpool (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Chelsea

More from Enzo Maresca on whether he's speaking to his players about their discipline, following a run of red cards:

"You have to analyse [them] case for case - whether it's a red card for bad intention or for bad discipline. The Brighton and Manchester United red cards are different.

"It's the decision that you take in two or three seconds - whether or not you foul. It's difficult.

"We analyse case for case. I don't see any discipline problem, even if we concede red cards, it's not a problem. It's for different reasons."

  6. 'We're going to be where we need to be'published at 10:45 BST

Chelsea v Liverpool (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca on Chelsea's performances so far this season:

"I think we started very very well, in terms of results and performance, the first four or five games.

"And then probably the rest of the games we didn't get the points that we wanted for sure, but we already analysed the reasons why.

"Most of the games were we didn't get the points is because it was very complicated for us because of the red card. But no doubt that also the injury situation we have in this moment, we have eight players out.

"So it's a mix of combination that we don't have any doubt that slowly we're going to be where we need to be."

  7. Maresca on Liverpool being 'impossible to catch'published at 10:44 BST

Chelsea v Liverpool (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Chelsea

Enzo Maresca clarified his previous remarks on Liverpool being impossible to catch.

He said that he was referring to their 100% record, which ended with defeat in their last Premier League game, with defeat at Crystal Palace.

Maresca said the Reds would have been impossible to catch if they kept on winning, but added that every team in world football has "vulnerability".

  8. Maresca on injuries, form & disciplinepublished at 10:40 BST

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is speaking now.

He has spoken about the team's loss of form and their poor disciplinary record.

The Italian also added that he is missing eight players due to injury.

We will bring you an update on those injuries as soon as we get one.

    More to follow.

  9. The Blues and seeing redpublished at 10:36 BST

Chelsea v Liverpool (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Chelsea

Last weekend, the Blues' ongoing discipline woes were punished as Brighton and Hove Albion came from behind to beat 10-man Chelsea after Trevor Chalobah walked for an ill-judged challenge on Georginio Rutter.

It was the second successive Premier League game in which a Blues man saw red, after the dismissal of Robert Sánchez cost Chelsea a defeat at Old Trafford the week before.

Again, Chelsea found themselves a man down against Benfica on Tuesday night, but they had the win wrapped up by the sixth minute of stoppage time, when Joao Pedro was sent off, squeaking past Jose Mourinho's side courtesy of a first-half own goal by Richard Rios.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca previously praised Liverpool and their aggressive, high-spending transfer activity over the summer.

The Italian appeared to be playing down expectations that Chelsea should be competing for the title having spent a lot themselves in recent seasons.

However, his comments also appeared a dig at the club's transfer activity given the inexperienced profile of players they typically sign.

It will be interesting to hear what tone he takes in today's press conference, which will begin soon.

  11. Maresca on the way...published at 10:32 BST

From one news conference to another - Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is next up, on Saturday's match at home to Liverpool.

On Eddie Howe's mixed feelings about former Magpies midfielder Elliot Anderson - the England international played 55 times for boyhood club Newcastle and certainly did not leave the North East for Nottingham Forest because the manager thought he was not good enough.

Howe said on multiple occasions that the sale was more related to financial rules (Profit and Sustainability Regulations) and keeping the midfielder could have had severe consequences for the club.

He was asked in his news conference if there was potential for Anderson to return to the club some day - but apart from admitting he would love for the player to return, he gave no indication either way as to whether it could happen or not.

  14. 'I am all in at Newcastle' - Howe on managerial linkspublished at 10:18 BST

    Newcastle v Nott'm Forest (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe was asked about his long-term future at St James' Park, given links to the England managerial position last year and recent links to Manchester United: "My commitment is that I am all in, I am 100% here and always have been. My family are still here and we are fighting everyday to make a success of what we are doing.

"The season ahead could be a wonderful thing and that is what I want to focus on."

  15. 'Mixed feeling when I watch Anderson play' - Howepublished at 10:14 BST

    Newcastle v Nott'm Forest (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe spoke highly about Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who worked under Howe before switching to the City Ground: "I am delighted for him. Every time I watch him there is mixed feelings.

"I am very pleased for him personally and his family, just knowing what a great lad he is and how hard he has worked on his game. But you see how well he plays and that's where the mixed feelings come in, there is a regret that it is not for us.

"He is outstanding on the ball and a great techician. I love how brave he is. I hope his career continues to go from strength to strength."

Ange Postecoglou has been in charge at Nottingham Forest for just 24 days but fans have already snapped.

Hands on his head, Postecoglou struck a lone figure on the side of the City Ground touchline after Valdemar Byskov's late goal put Midtjylland 3-1 up.

"Sacked in the morning" came the chant from the home supporters while a few waited at the end to boo Postecoglou when he walked down the tunnel.

Just 24 hours before it had still been positive with Morgan Gibbs-White asserting Forest would be "unstoppable" when it clicked. Sunday's trip to Newcastle now appears huge.

But the 3-2 Europa League defeat on Thursday left Postecoglou winless in his opening six games - the first time in 100 years that has happened at Forest.

He knew it was not "love at first sight" with Forest fans and promised to win them over but that relationship already looks broken after less than a month.

Once fans turn it is hard to win them back, despite Postecoglou's insistence his side are on the right track, and when supporters are turning round to openly question owner Evangelos Marinakis in the stand the situation looks bleak.

Who would have guessed that betraying your manager during your best season for 30 years would backfire? Owners should learn to stay in the background where they belong.

    Stefan

As a Forest supporter, I am at a loss to understand why Postecoglou was ever appointed. He has no track record other than a couple of good years at Celtic, a team almost anybody could manage. He wrecked Spurs and is now wrecking Forest!

  18. 'Forest more possession-based and free under Postecoglou' - Howepublished at 10:04 BST

    Newcastle v Nott'm Forest (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe spoke about Sunday's opponents Nottingham Forest and their winless start under Ange Postecoglou: "They have a very strong group of players and I think they've had a slight change [under Postecoglou] - they are definitely more possession-based and quite free in their movements.

"You look at the games and I think they could have gone either way. I think they have a good balance to their squad. Ange Postecoglou is an outstanding manager with a really good track record.

"We know this is a pivotal game for us going into the international break. Our Premier League record is really important to us, it is a big match."

  19. Livramento out for eight weeks, but no 'fresh injuries' - Howepublished at 09:59 BST

    Newcastle United

Right, let's pivot to Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, who started his news conference with a team news update before Sunday's match at home to Nottingham Forest: "I think everyone came through okay [from Wednesday's victory over Union Saint-Gilloise], off the top of my head I don't think there is any fresh injuries."

On Tino Livramento's injury: "He went to see a specialist a couple of days ago because the scan maybe looked better than we initially thought. The specialist confirmed it's roughly an eight-week injury. A blow to lose him, but for what It could have been it is good news."

Liverpool may have suffered back-to-back defeats, but Chelsea are the only team to lose their last two Premier League games. Not Wolves, not West Ham, not even Nottingham Forest...Just saying!!

    Mick

I bet the most upset people at Alisson's injury are former footballers who now work in the media. Not because it weakens Liverpool, but because they now need to pronounce Mamardashvili anytime he makes a save. Or they could just apply their 'Trent' protocol.

    Matt

That may also extend to reporters hurriedly typing up a live news conference...
