At the start of the season, everyone backed Liverpool. After their strong start, no one would’ve believed they’d lose six of the next seven. I’m not saying Arsenal will collapse like that, but losing two or three games in a row isn’t impossible.

When I first started doing punditry in 2021, Arsenal's biggest failing was they are a bit soft-centered, you could almost bully them.

Now you look at the way they can play. If it needs to be a fight, it will be a fight. If it needs to be a footballing game, it can be a footballing game.

People don't want to be classed as favourites for anything at this part of the season. There is a lot of pressure that comes with that. For the Arsenal side, three years in a row they have finished second, why not have the belief they can finish first?

  3. Arsenal's defensive recordpublished at 11:46 GMT

    Arsenal

One of the big factors behind Arsenal's early season success has been their defensive record.

Incredibly, they have conceded just three goals in all competitions - all of which have been in the Premier League.

Three goals in 15 (fifteen) games.

A worldie from Dominik Szoboszlai in their defeat by Liverpool, a goal from Erling Haaland in the draw to Manchester City and Nick Woltemade's opener in the win at St James' Park remain the only times that this Arsenal defence has been breached.

It’s November! Nothing has been won yet. Just a few weeks ago people were saying it was Liverpool’s and that Arsenal were out of it if they lost at Newcastle. Things can change quickly. Liverpool and City cannot be ruled out. Come on you Gunners!!

    Sandra

Arsenal are finding a way to win some of the games they drew or lost last season, this is a step forward. The squad has more depth too. I think the games against City and Liverpool will be crucial - will Arteta regret not being more positive at Anfield?

  7. 'Good is potentially the enemy for great'published at 11:27 GMT

Former Newcastle winger Matt Ritchie sharing his thoughts on the title race with Sky Sports: "I think Liverpool are still well in it, Man City of course, and the psychology for Arsenal after what has happened in the two previous seasons having been in this position before and not quite getting it over the line will be on their minds.

"So for me, good is potentially the enemy for great. In this moment I’m sure Mikel Arteta is hammering that message home, saying lads we’re good but to be great we have to keep pushing everyday."

  8. Arsenal's incredible run of formpublished at 11:22 GMT

    Arsenal

Arsenal are on a nine game winning streak in all competitions and haven't tasted defeat since the 1-0 loss to Liverpool in August.

The Reds and Manchester City remain the only two sides to take points off the Gunners in the Premier League so far this season.

Mikel Arteta's side also have a 100% record in this season's Champions League going into Tuesday's match against Slavia Prague.

As an Arsenal fan its hard to see us finishing the top of the league especially this early on, however there is an aura of something new this season that hasn't really been felt in a while, games we'd have lost in the past we are winning. Makes you wonder.

    Karl

Arsenal fan here... and, yes, of course the title race is still wide open. Nice to have a 6 point buffer so early, we all know how fast it can change. Still, City and Liverpool playing each other this weekend can't hurt!

  10. 'Hopefully Arsenal can concede a goal one day'published at 11:11 GMT

    Manchester City

While you ponder on those questions, let's ask an expert - someone who has won six of the last eight Premier League titles, maybe?

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was asked whether his side are in the title race, following their victory against Bournemouth: "Well, hopefully Arsenal concede one goal one day, right? That is not easy for them.

"I said, the energy that we didn't have we have. I have had the feeling since the Club World Cup that we were in the moment. It is just 10 games. There are 28 to play and many, many things are going to happen. It is important to be close and feel that the team is getting better and better."

With so many questions, we need your answers.

With Manchester City's impressive victory on Sunday and Liverpool finally returning to winning ways - is the Premier League title race still alive?

With key players returning to fitness for City, have they shown they have enough in the locker to challenge?

Will Liverpool's win against Aston Villa kickstart their season? Or will their jittering form continue?

Can any other dark horses mount a challenge?

Or, maybe more importantly, are the Gunners just too good no matter who steps up to the plate?

Or do the stats back up his belief?

Yes, Harry and Ant are correct in their assertion that Arsenal have been here before.

But is this season going to have a different ending for the Gunners?

    So many questions to ponder...

If City and Liverpool draw this weekend and Arsenal come away with a win against Sunderland, that'll be eight and 10 points ahead of their main rivals. With Odegaard, Madueke and Havertz to return after the international break, I can't see anything but a first Gunners league title since 2004.

I'll admit Arsenal do seem different this year, but they've looked good up until around April for the last few years. They haven't exactly added experienced winners either, just more talent in the squad to deal with injuries better. I'd still say City and Liverpool are favourites based on history.

    Harry

As a Liverpool fan, I'm not worried at all. With only one team breaking away who have a habit of capitulating after the New Year. It's still all to play for.

  17. Have Liverpool and Man City kept the title race alive?published at 10:40 GMT

With Liverpool and Manchester City both following up Arsenal's victory against Burnley with wins of their own - have they kept the title race alive?

The Gunners currently have a six point lead over City in second, while the Reds' victory against Aston Villa moved them up to third - seven behind the leaders.

It's the first time all three have won on the same Premier League weekend since matchday four on 13 September.
