Jamie Vardy gets his best sight of goal so far in this game, fed into the area in space by Facundo Buonanotte. However he cannot get the ball out of his feet in time, allowing Yuki Sugawara to make a fine block.

Buonanotte then tries to curl one home from 25 yards, missing by inches.

Alejandro Garnacho has started the second half superbly. He nearly gets a second goal in five minutes, creating space 25 yards out and aiming for the bottom corner.

Mark Flekken, wearing a cap as he tries to cope with the sun in his eyes, gets down well to push it around the post.

This feels like the type of performance Southampton fans were hoping for but thought may never come. After seven league games, it’s finally started to click. The possession translating into chances and goals. Arguably should be further ahead. There’s a buoyant atmosphere coursing through a sold out St Mary’s.

Having said that, there’s still a big 45 minutes to go. Leicester haven’t offered much, minimal chances but came incredibly close through Bilal El Khannouss. A right footed shot rattled the post. A section of fans thought it went in. Warning shots are there.
