    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter at Old Trafford

Jonny Evans has come on for his 241st and last Manchester United appearance.

Evans' contract runs out at the end of the season.

He will leave United and is likely to retire - although the Northern Irishman is yet to make a final decision on that.

It was one of the more crazy recruitment decisions by United to sell him to West Brom for £6m in 2015.

They have not had many better central defenders than Evans in his prime.

    Man Utd 0-0 Aston Villa

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

As Manchester United prepared a double substitution, bringing on Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen, there was a huge roar from the Villa fans.

It was nothing to do with anything in Manchester, but Carlos Alcaraz's goal for Everton at Newcastle. Will it be a grand slam moment in Villa's season?

Villa, down to 10 men and frantically hanging on to a point at the moment, are in the Champions League places as it stands.

A goal here for Manchester United or one in the north east for Newcastle United changes everything.
