  1. Alejandro Garnacho on his way out of Manchester Unitedpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 25 May

Man Utd v Aston Villa (16:00 BST)

Alejandro Garnacho has been told he can find another club this summer.

Chelsea and Napoli were both heavily linked with Garnacho in the winter window but no deal materialised.

The word is Garnacho will not be involved in today's game despite his partner putting a 'last game' post on Instagram.

I don't think Ruben Amorim appreciated Garnacho and his brother questioning his team selection for the Europa League final.

  3. 'It will be an apology'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 25 May

Manchester United v Aston Villa (16:00 BST)

Ruben Amorim will address the Manchester United fans at the end of the match today after what has been the worst season in the clubs history.

Europa League final defeat on Wednesday to Tottenham was the icing on the cake and Amorim is prepared to offer an apology to the home crowd.

"It will be an apology, I think that's clear, I don't have time for an explanation.

"I will be honest with the fans and say what is in my mind and especially my heart."

  4. A party atmosphere en route to Anfieldpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 25 May

Liverpool v Crystal Palace (16:00 BST)

My train to Liverpool from Manchester today may as well have been a party train. Liverpool fans en route to Anfield had taken over the carriage I was in with a stereo playing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” out loud as supporters sang along.

Liverpool fans are not the only ones in celebratory mood with Crystal Palace supporters toasting their successful end to the season following their FA Cup win, and there were a few mildly disconcerting Oliver Glasner masks on display on the train over too.

Liverpool v Crystal Palace (16:00 BST)

Liverpool beat Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield on 27 April to confirm their status as Premier League champions and while the celebrations have been ongoing, the trophy lift happens today.

After the side lifted the trophy in an empty Anfield in 2020, there will be much joy for the red half of Liverpool this afternoon when a tremendous season comes to a close.

As for the victory parade around the city, that takes place tomorrow on a Bank Holiday. What an atmosphere that will be.

Manchester United v Aston Villa (16:00 BST)

On the final day of the season two years ago Aston Villa narrowly beat Brighton 2-1 at a raucous Villa Park to secure a return to European football after a 13-year absence.

That victory took Villa into the Conference League with euphoric celebrations following, but, such has been Villa's progress since, the club would be disappointed if they ended up back in that tournament next year.

Villa will be in Europe in 2025-26, but it is not yet known in which competition. They start sixth and that would get them in the Europa League, drop to seventh and it's the Conference League, climb to fifth and it's the Champions League and an immediate return to Europe's top competition after reaching the quarter-finals this year, beating Bayern Munich on a memorable Villa Park night along the way.

Manchester United's 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final means no continental football at Old Trafford for 2025-26 - the first season without any European games since 2014-15 and only their second Europe-less campaign since 1990.

  11. But what about Europa League and Conference League?published at 14:18 British Summer Time 25 May

Whoever finishes sixth will be guaranteed at least a Europa League spot - while Newcastle have a minimum of a Conference League spot in the bank from winning the Carabao Cup.

Brighton and Brentford are still hoping to sneak into a Conference League spot. Albion just need a point to finish eighth but the Bees would finish above them with a win, if Brighton lose.

But... that will only be enough if Chelsea finish outside the European places - so either seventh place (or sixth and Newcastle are seventh) and win Wednesday's Conference League final against Real Betis.

There are only things that could happen with Europa and Conference League spots but life is too short...

Champions Liverpool, second-placed Arsenal and 17th-placed Tottenham - as Europa League winners - are already sure of Champions League places.

FA Cup winners Crystal Palace are in the Europa League.

  12. The battle for the Champions Leaguepublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 25 May

Five teams are battling it out for three remaining Champions League places - while there are an uncertain amount of slots in the Europa League and possibly the Conference League available too.

Manchester City, Newcastle United and Chelsea occupy the top five - so know a win will take them to the Champions League, barring an unlikely goal difference swing. A draw will be enough for City at Fulham, other than in an unlikely goal difference scenario.

Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest need other results to go their way to squeeze in.

But the twist is that seventh-placed Forest host Chelsea, who are fifth - so if they win that, then the Blues are out unless they get lucky with goal difference.
