  2. Sunderland 'lucky' to get draw, says Le Brispublished at 22:28 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    FT: Preston 0-0 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris says his side were "probably lucky" to get a point at Preston tonight.

Le Bris told Sky Sports: "Especially during the first half because we struggled in both phases in possession, out of possession, it was very difficult.

"We didn't control the game at all, but sometimes it's possible and we didn't concede a goal, so we were still in the match.

"I think in the second half, the game changed and it was much better. Not the perfect play we would like, but it was much better.

"It shows in every game in this league is very competitive, especially away.

"We know exactly what we have to improve and today was clearly the way we can press and the way we can build up under pressure.

"It wasn't good enough but in the end it's still one point and the boys ran until the end to protect our goal and when we had an opportunity, we tried to score. It's not a bad point for us.

"This league is so hard with a different style of play, a strong team with a good crowd behind them. Ours was very nice as well but it's still difficult to play away.

"This game was not the best but we are not complacent and we know the different phases we have to improve."

    FT: Preston 0-0 Sunderland

Now when Mark Chapman said this to me on air, I called it a bit of a tenuous stat.

But North End are now 22 games unbeaten, in midweek games here at Deepdale.

There’s something about these North End lights…

  4. 'One team took their chances'published at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    FT: Blackburn 0-2 Stoke

    Andy Bayes
    Reporter, BBC Radio Lancashire

A case of one team taking their chances, the other not doing.

Rovers 20+ attempts but nothing to show for it.

Stoke with a bright start to the second half and took both goals well, the second from the spot.

  5. 'The performance wasn't there'published at 22:20 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    FT: Preston 0-0 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland defender Luke O'Nien speaking to Sky Sports: "Probably not happy to get a point because I don't think we merited it, I don't think the performance was there.

"They had quite a few big chances compared to us, so coming away with a point, you've got to take it when you don't play well. But there's a lot to look back on and a lot to learn.

On still being top despite dropping points: "Yeah, we've worked really, really hard to get into this position.

"Maybe we've got to look back and say 'what are the things that got us there' and go back to doing them instead of changing too much.

"We're a really good team. A lot of positives to take. We will be in tomorrow and we're going to pull the bones out of it and go again at the weekend."

On what went wrong tonight: "I don't know otherwise I would've tried to change it on the pitch. But we didn't quite have the flow.

"The man for man references in and out of possession, we were just one step off with all of it. But we're a good team, we still came away with a point and we showed we've got a lot of character as well."

Championship table after games on 6 November

A disappointing night for Daniel Farke as Leeds miss the opportunity to climb back into the automatic promotion spots with defeat at Millwall, who move up to fifth with a fourth straight 1-0 win.

Sunderland dropped points at Preston but remain top of the pile, although Sheffield United's dramatic victory last night means the Blades have closed the gap to just two points.

Stoke City climb to 14th following their impressive 2-0 win at Blackburn, one place below Derby who beat Coventry 2-1 for their first victory on the road this season.

Luton secured a massive three points by beating Cardiff 1-0 at Kenilworth Road to lift them up to 19th, while the Bluebirds drop to 21st.

Six teams from 17th to 22nd are level on 15 points. Yikes.

Another five matches of this Championship season down and let's recap on tonight's headlines.

Japhet Tanganga's goal secured a 1-0 win for Millwall against Leeds at The Den that moved the Lions up to fifth in the table.

That defeat for Leeds meant Sunderland could extend the gap between themselves at the top and third place, but the Black Cats were held to a 0-0 draw by Preston.

Luton claimed all three points with a 1-0 win over Cardiff at Kenilworth Road, while Stoke scored their first away goals in four matches to beat Blackburn 2-0 at Ewood Park.

Paul Warne's Derby got their first away win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Coventry.

  8. 'Fine margins in this league'published at 22:08 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    FT: Preston 0-0 Sunderland

    Preston North End

Preston defender Andrew Hughes to Sky Sports:

"It's bitter-sweet really - a clean sheet but we just failed to get one at the top end.

"Nice to get a clean sheet but we'd loved to have won it.

"The gameplan worked to a tee - man for man, we did our job but just failed to get that all-important goal.

"It just shows the fine margins in this league - there is not much between every team."

  9. 'Preston should be encouraged'published at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    FT: Preston 0-0 Sunderland

    Dan Jewell

Tonight's result will be all the more important if Preston go to Portsmouth on Saturday and get three points.

    Paul Heckingbottom will be encouraged.

And that is full-time, Jacob Brown's thumping header the only difference between these two sides.

Luton felt they should have had a penalty in the first half for handball against Calum Chambers.

But Brown smashed in his second goal of the season in the decisive moment that gives the Hatters a huge three points and will ease some of the pressure on Rob Edwards.

  11. 'Heckingbottom will be happy'published at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    FT: Preston 0-0 Sunderland

    Paul Gallagher
Former Preston midfielder on BBC Radio Lancashire

Preston were all wrong for Sunderland in the first half, and we played well with some good chances.

In the second half Sunderland's substitutes made a difference.

A clean sheet at home against top of the league - Paul Heckingbottom will take that.

  12. Postpublished at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    Luton 1-0 Cardiff

Alfie Doughty has limped off the pitch, opting not to use the stretcher but clearly not in a good way.

Cardiff are pushing for the equaliser but Calum Chambers' wild shot from range is high and wide and just about sums up what we've seen in this game.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:53 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    Preston 0-0 Sunderland

It ends all square but Sunderland stay top of the Championship.

Preston created a number of good half chances in the first-half but weren't able to capitalise.

Neither side were able to carve out too much in the second period and a draw is probably a fair result in the end.

The Lilywhites have now only lost one of their last seven, while the Black Cats are unbeaten in seven.

  14. Postpublished at 21:53 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    Preston 0-0 Sunderland

Preston launch a free-kick from halfway towards the Sunderland area and it drops to Stefan Teitur Thordarson but he blazes the cross over everyone and out of play.

  15. Postpublished at 21:53 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    Luton 1-0 Cardiff

Alfie Doughty is down injured for Luton, he's been one of the brighter stars in this game.

Luton had looked to get the killer second goal but Carlton Morris was flagged for offside as he tried to square for his strike partner Elijah Adebayo.

It's good defending to cut the ball out by the Bluebirds defence so it wouldn't have counted anyway.

  16. 'Sunderland finally testing Preston'published at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    Preston 0-0 Sunderland

    Nick Barnes
    BBC Newcastle's Sunderland commentator

Very good effort by Patrick Roberts, finally testing Preston keeper Freddie Woodman in this second half.

Sunderland need something now or it'll be a second consecutive 0-0 draw.

  17. Postpublished at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November

    Preston 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland's Romaine Mundle digs out a deep cross to the back post and Patrick Roberts fires a decent left-footed volley towards goal but it's well saved by Freddie Woodman.

A corner then comes in and drops to Dan Neil on the edge but he slices it well wide.

  19. FIVE ADDED MINUTESpublished at 21:49 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November
