    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on the Football Daily podcast

Kyle Walker has an incredible legacy at Manchester City. The honours that he has won there and the service that he has given the club.

Pep has always said he is never going to stand in the way of players who express a desire to go and he has been criticised, Kyle, for his performances.

If he wants a fresh start somewhere, you can understand that,

Man City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to TNT Sports about Brentford: "They do everything. Good in transition, really good in set-pieces, make different decisions to previous seasons. They have pace and they are a very good team. They know the club, they know the players and Thomas Frank is a top guy.

"For the public opinion, if you win you have turned the corner. It is not just about that. Sometimes you lose games and you feel that the team is alive and sometimes you win them and you feel it is not there."

Chief Soccer Correspondent for The New York Times, on Football Daily's Monday Night Club

I wonder if Kyle Walker is thinking that his skillset is maybe suited more to Italy.

I wonder if the 'Kyle Walker is slowing' thing is being overblown. He is still a very quick, very good defender. Even just for being around the squad, he could still play a pivotal role for City.

  4. 'Can we hit top form tonight?'published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

Brentford v Man City (19:30 GMT)

    Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank speaking to TNT Sports about his team selection: "I think it fitted a little better in terms of the team we are facing tonight. It is a different opponent and we are at home and we have a big confidence at home but I think we need another midfielder in this game."

On Man City: "It is natural that any team in the world will have a dip in form and they basically haven't had a dip for the last four years. They always find solutions and we are ready for their solutions. It is about us. Can we hit top form?"

  5. 'I am going to go for another draw here'published at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January

West Ham v Fulham (19:30 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
    BBC Football Expert

Graham Potter's aim will be to win his first home game as West Ham boss, but I am not sure where his side's goals are going to come from.

The Hammers were already short up front and now Nicklas Fullkrug has been sidelined by a hamstring injury. He was one of the players I said people should watch out for this season, but that has turned out the way most of my predictions do.

Fulham are a good team, but some of their recent results have been a bit strange.

They are eight league games unbeaten and safely into round four of the FA Cup but that run includes a couple of home draws, against Southampton and Ipswich, where I expected them to win.

I am still erring more towards a Fulham win than towards West Ham but, because Marco Silva's side have turned into draw specialists, I am going to go for another draw here too.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

Fulham make the short trip to London Stadium unbeaten in eight games in the Premier League, and avoiding a defeat against West Ham tonight will see them match their club record set under Roy Hodgson in 2008.

They have won against Chelsea and Brighton while drawing Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham among others during the impressive run.

Marco Silva’s side also overcame Championship opposition Watford 4-1 in the FA Cup on Thursday to book a place in the fourth round.

The Cottagers are also unbeaten in their last 10 league games in London, winning five and drawing five. It’s their longest such run in London derbies since going 12 matches unbeaten between February 1936 and October 1938.

Nuno Espirito Santo recalls Ryan Yates with Nicolas Dominguez dropping to the bench. He reverts to 10 of the 11 who started the 3-0 win at Wolves last week.

Nottingham Forest XI: Sels, Aina, Murillo, Milenkovic, Williams, Anderson, Gibbs-White, Yates, Hudson-Odoi, Wood, Elanga

Subs: Morato, Boly, Ward-Prowse, Moreno, Dominguez, Awoniyi, Silva, Sosa, Miguel

Liverpool return to their more recognised Premier League line up with Dominik Szoboszlai replacing Curtis Jones, from their 2-2 draw with Manchester United last time out in the top flight.

Darwin Nunez is banned after his fifth yellow card of the season against United.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Robertson, Van Dijk, Konate, Alexander-Arnold, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Gakpo, Salah, Diaz

Subs: Endo, Bradley, Jota, Jones, Chiesa, Elliott, Quansah, Tsimikas, Kelleher

Marco Silva thinks his Fulham side have been "really, really good," but should have picked up more points from their recent games.

Since losing to Wolves in November, Fulham are unbeaten in all competitions, picking up 12 points from their eight Premier League fixtures and qualifying for the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Speaking to the club's official website, Silva said: "It's been a great run for us. We should have taken more points because we deserve it with the way we have been playing in some of those games, but it's been really, really good.

"We showed the resilience, showed the quality, showed that we have been able to be competitive in any stadium in this country against any team and we want to repeat it again against West Ham ."

Ninth-placed Fulham have collected 30 points from 20 matches and are only six points away from Chelsea, who occupy fourth place.

    West Ham United

Niclas Fullkrug's hamstring injury sustained during West Ham's FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa leaves Graham Potter with only one fit striker available in Danny Ings.

German attacker Fullkrug joined Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio among sidelined attackers while Crysencio Summerville also misses the visit of Fulham, after being substituted at half-time against Villa.

"Sometimes in these situations, you have to be creative. You have to look at the attacking players you have and what their attributes are and use them accordingly," Potter said.

"So [Mohammed Kudus] got the capability to do that. It's an option for us. We've got other options too. Lucas Paqueta can play there, obviously Danny Ings."

They are also without goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and Jean-Clair Todibo.

But in some good news for the new West Ham head coach, Emerson returns after a two-game absence while Dinos Mavropanos also shakes off a knock to start.

No Summerville. Bowen. Antonio. Fulkrug. Don’t expect anything from tonight. Need reinforcements asap.

Andy: We're really down to the bare bones. I can't even begin to fathom Potter's formation, and I don't think I want to. Soler and Kudus either side of makeshift centre forward Paqueta? I agree with not buying players for the sake of it as Potter says, but we're desperate

Raul Jimenez has scored eight goals so far this Premier League season. It's his best returns in a single campaign since the 2019-20 season, when he netted 17 times for Wolves.

The Mexico international has also bagged six goals against West Ham during his career - more than any other Premier League opposition.

And he will hope to score for the third league game running when he faces the Hammers again tonight.

Graham Potter's first game in charge of West Ham did not go to plan as the Hammers exited the FA Cup after a 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa in the third round on Friday.

But the West Ham boss, who replaced Julen Lopetegui last week, will hope to return them to winning ways in his first home game in charge, against Fulham in the Premier League.

West Ham have lost three games in a row across all competitions, conceding a total of 11 goals.

They also have the fourth worst defensive record in the division and are conceding an average of 1.95 goals per league game.

Potter's cause will not be helped by the hamstring injury to Niclas Fullkrug, that has further limited his options up front.

Nottingham Forest "deserve" to be treated as title contenders before Liverpool's trip to the City Ground, says Arne Slot.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are the only team to have beaten Liverpool in the Premier League this season following their 1-0 win at Anfield in September.

"I've always said you can judge the table best halfway through the season," said Liverpool boss Slot.

"That moment is there now, so if Forest is then up there with us, with Arsenal, Chelsea and [Manchester] City and all the others, then they definitely are a team that is in competition with us and with the other teams.

"They deserve to be treated like this if you look at the way they play and if you look at their results."

Leicester stunned the world in 2016 when they won the Premier League - but could Nottingham Forest be about to do the same?

Third in the Premier League with the joint second-best defence in the division and the most clean sheets, this rejuvenated club are no longer the surprise package.

Victory against Liverpool on Tuesday would equal their club record of seven straight top-flight wins, set in 1922 - and, if they are able to complete the double over the Premier League leaders, they will be just three points behind them.

Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Palmeiras' teenage defender Vitor Reis.

City have been in negotiations with the Brazilian club for a number of weeks and, after some resistance, have finally made a breakthrough in talks which the Premier League club believe will lead to 19-year-old Reis eventually joining them.

Palmeiras had hoped to keep Reis for next summer's Club World Cup.

However, City sources believe if the deal, which is reported to be for £29.4m, is eventually concluded, Reis will join them immediately.
