    Cardiff 1-0 Coventry

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at Cardiff City Stadium

The atmosphere at Cardiff City Stadium is a good deal more upbeat than it has been for a while, thanks to Alex Robertson's opening goal.

That is the first time Cardiff have scored at home since 9 November, or four hours and 53 minutes of action ago.

More importantly, the relegation-threatened Bluebirds are searching for back-to-back wins having previously gone nine games without victory.

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Portsmouth 0-0 Swansea City

A loud appeal from the fans rather than the players for Pompey but the ball strikes the face of Harry Darling.

    Nothing given.

  3. Postpublished at 15:08 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Leeds 0-0 Blackburn

A strong start to the game from the hosts and they win a corner as Dan James' cross is blocked behind.

Joe Rothwell sends in the corner and finds centre-back Pascal Struijk but his header is down into the ground and an easy take for Rovers keeper Ashley Pears.

  4. Postpublished at 15:08 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Luton 0-0 Norwich

Both sides have particularly bad away form of late, or could that be put down to last year's form?

Luton earnt just 36 points in total last year, the ninth worst in the EFL for 2024.

Norwich earnt 69 to be 21st in the same list and have just squandered the first corner of the game.

Luton counter quickly, but Angus Gunn saves Elijah Adebayo's tame shot.

Luton manager Rob Edwards looks onImage source, Rex Features

Luton Town sit just three points above the drop zone as they look to begin this year with a victory and propel themselves into a healthier position in the table.

New defensive signing Christ Makosso, who has signed from RWD Molenbeek, is not part of the squad today but makes for an interesting addition.

The Hatters have only managed two wins in their last six games, scoring just four goals, Rob Edward's side have struggled to find their Championship form of two years ago, will the new year bring a new Luton?

Their opponents Norwich City have struggled of late, only managing one win in their six games, leaving them 12th in the table and seven points adrift of the play-offs.

The Canaries will hope to find a precious victory and get their promotion chase back on track.

  10. 'What an away day performance'published at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    FT: Millwall 0-1 Oxford Utd

    Eddie Odhiambo
Former Oxford defender on BBC Radio Oxford

What an away day performance! That is how you win a game and do what you need to and take your chances when they come and then give such a professional performance in every thing they did.

Gary Rowett will be delighted with today's work.

  11. Brunt hoping for first winpublished at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

West Brom v Preston (15:00 GMT)

Play-off hopefuls West Brom are still reeling from the Christmas Day exit of manager Carlos Corberan to Valencia.

Caretaker Chris Brunt has overseen a defeat to Derby on Boxing Day and credible draw with Sheffield United so far, but he'll be hoping for a first win when the Baggies host Preston this afternoon.

Victory could propel them back into the top six as they sit eighth, a point outside.

Preston North End, who have won their last two and suffered just one defeat in six, will hope to continue that run.

They currently sit 14th, seven points adrift of their opponents,

  12. Lampard steadies Coventry shippublished at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Cardiff v Coventry (15:00 GMT)

    Frank LampardImage source, Getty Images

Frank Lampard faces Cardiff, the opposition for his first Coventry match in charge, almost exactly a month on from a 2-2 draw at home.

Since then, the Sky Blues have won three, lost two and drawn one of their six matches.

Having arrived with them 17th in the table and two points clear of relegation trouble, Lampard has lifted them just two places, but crucially seven points clear.

Cardiff are second bottom with just five wins all season, but one of those did come at Watford last time out. Have they turned a corner under Omer Riza?

  13. Portsmouth look to start the new year with a much-needed winpublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Portsmouth v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

John Mousinho's Portsmouth host Swansea City at Fratton Park to kick-off their 2025.

Pompey start the day sat in 23rd and winless in their last two, with their last victory against Coventry just before Christmas.

Having already faced today's opposition back in November, they will hope to improve on the 2-2 draw that could see them move above Cardiff City who are just a point above them.

The Swans will aim to continue their good form, having won their last two games and will look to increase their promotion chances, Luke Williams' side sit just four points off the play-offs in 10th.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Millwall 0-1 Oxford Utd

Oxford United win away in the second tier for the first time this century!

It was by no means a classic at The Den but the away side claim all three points through Ruben Rodrigues's second-half header.

Alex Neil's first game in charge of Millwall ends in defeat.

  15. Postpublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Millwall 0-1 Oxford Utd

    Nathan Cooper
    BBC Radio Oxford commentator

Millwall are really starting to lose their head and lose their rag.

It is not conducive to their chances of winning this game.

If the Millwall fans hadn't lost their patience, they have now!

  16. Postpublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Millwall 0-1 Oxford Utd

Joe Bryan sends a hopeless cross behind for a goal kick and that might just about do it.

What a result this will be for Oxford United and Gary Rowett.

The former Millwall boss has gone in at the Kassam Stadium and taken maximum points from his first three games and - just as impressively - his club's first away win since returning to the Championship.

  17. Can Rams find new year's resolution?published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

Sheff Wed v Derby (15:00 GMT)

Derby County boss Paul WarneImage source, PA Media

Derby County are looking for their first New Year's Day win for 12 years as they visit Sheffield Wednesday.

The Rams have had a solid first half-season back in the Championship, collecting 27 points and sitting in a respectable 16th place.

They're looking to avoid a league double defeat against the Owls for the first time since 2005-06.

Danny Rohl's Wednesday have been frustratingly inconsistent, particularly on home soil, with four wins, four draws and four defeats at Hillsborough perhaps summing it up.

  19. Can Potters break eight-year jinx against Clarets?published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Burnley v Stoke (15:00 GMT)

Stoke's acting head coach Ryan ShawcrossImage source, Rex Features

Stoke travel to Burnley looking for a first league win against the Clarets since 2016 - when both these teams were playing in the top tier.

Newly-appointed boss Mark Robins won't be in charge today, with Ryan Shawcross in the dugout for the final time as interim.

Burnley are unbeaten in six matches against the Potters, winning four and drawing two - including a 2-0 win at the bet365 Stadium in November.

Scott Parker's side haven't tasted defeat since a 1-0 loss to Millwall at The Den almost two months ago, while Stoke ended a run of nine matches without a win in Sunday's 1-0 victory against Sunderland.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Millwall 0-1 Oxford Utd

    Last throws now for Millwall,

The home side have all the ball but that Oxford backline is holding firm.

Femi Azeez sends an in-swinging ball across but it goes all the way out for a goal kick.

Here comes Louie Sibley in place of Tyler Goodrham for the visitors.
