Alex Neil takes charge of his first game as Millwall boss against Oxford United today since replacing Neil Harris in the hot seat at The Den.

Harris' latest stint with the Lions ended after defeat at Middlesbrough on Saturday 14 December, with David Livermore taking temporary charge before Neil's appointment was announce two days ago.

Neil takes over with the club 13th in the table but in a run of four defeats in their last six matches.

While one new face arrives, a familiar one returns in the form of former boss Garry Rowett - who has made a 100% winning start to his tenure at Oxford.

Two straight victories over Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle, in Wayne Rooney's final match in charge, have lifted the Us three points clear of the relegation places.

Millwall are strong new year starters, winning their last four league games played on January 1.

A win for Watford could move the Hornets into the top six and get 2025 off to the perfect start with Blackburn facing a tough trip to Elland Road and Middlesbrough away at Hull later today.

Watford have won the last three league meetings between the two but come up against a resurgent Hoops side who have lost just one of their last nine matches as they've climbed from the foot of the table up to 17th.

Watford have lost two of their last three games, with head coach Tom Cleverley admitting his side weren't good enough in Sunday's defeat to Cardiff City at Vicarage Road.

The Rs have made an early move with the transfer market opening today, signing Southampton defender Ronnie Edwards on loan for the rest of the season.

Wayne Rooney left Plymouth Argyle this week, meaning the Pilgrims begin 2025 without a manager.

Rooney departs with Plymouth rooted to the bottom of the Championship with the former England striker having overseen just four wins in 23 games, with 13 defeats.

The decision was by mutual agreement and despite the on-field failures, the 39-year-old left rather amicably, thanking the club and fans for their time together.

First-team coach Kevin Nancekivell and long-serving midfielder Joe Edwards will be in charge for today's visit of West Country rivals Bristol City.

Meanwhile, the Robins arrive at Home Park having won their last two without conceding; the victories over Luton and Portsmouth being the first time this season they've claimed back-to-back three points.

Liam Manning’s side can go within one point of the play-off places with a win, but they’ve struggled on their travels with just three away victories all season.

A new year has signalled a new start for Stoke City, with the Potters announcing Mark Robins as their new manager this morning.

It took just 55 days to see a Robins return to the drama of the Championship. The former Coventry boss will be tasked with pulling Stoke away from the threat of relegation to League One, with the former Premier League side only four points clear of the drop.

Robins will be the Potters' third manager of the season with his predecessor Narcis Pelach only lasting 19 games at the helm.

Robins has a job on his hands turning around a perpetually under-performing club who have finished no higher than 14th since they were relegated into the second tier in 2018.
