Everton v Aston Villa (19:30 GMT)

There will be a familiar face in the home dugout at Goodison Park this evening as David Moyes begins his second spell in charge of Everton against Aston Villa.

Speaking to the Football News Show former Toffees midfielder Leon Osman believes Moyes will be focused on getting the side creating more chances as one of his first priorities.

He also gave his opinion on what Moyes can bring to the team that former manager Sean Dyche couldn't.

  2. What will Palace make of Chelsea's decision to recall Chalobah?published at 12:43 Greenwich Mean Time

Oliver Glasner called for 'clarity' before Crystal Palace's trip to Leicester in his news conference yesterday and he got the answer he didn't want hours later.

Chelsea sporting director Paul Winstanley called defender Trevoh Chalobah to inform him of the decision to exercise a recall clause in his contract, amid injuries to defender Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

But Glasner had earlier spoken to Chalobah and believed he wanted to stay at Palace.

It's a fascinating episode around a talented player who has been pushing for an England debut under new manager Thomas Tuchel, who gave him his big break at Stamford Bridge in 2021.

It will be interesting to hear Glasner's thoughts about it tonight at the King Power Stadium.

More from Mikel Arteta’s former assistant at Arsenal, Steve Round, speaking to 5 Live Breakfast, on whether Arteta will be aware of the clamour for a striker: "I think he is aware of it because you have to be in tune to supporters and how they feel and what they think of their club moving forward but he will be totally focused on the job in hand and I don't think you can let the noise get in and influence your decisions.

"He will know that he will need a striker, especially with the unfortunate news that Gabriel Jesus will be out for a significant period. They will be scouring the world and I am sure they have been looking at lots of different players - it's just whether those players are affordable and gettable in this transfer window."

  4. 'Arteta will be right on the ball for the North London derby'published at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time

Mikel Arteta’s former assistant at Arsenal, Steve Round, speaking to 5 Live Breakfast, on Arteta and the North London derby: "He is intense on the touchline but that's all about generating and projecting an energy to his team and trying to get them to perform at the highest level. Away from that he is very relaxed and I'm pretty sure he will be really calm leading up to the game against Tottenham.

"From the final whistle on Sunday against Manchester United to the kick-off against Spurs, it will all be about preparation - he is obsessed with that preparation to ensure his team are in the best possible shape to be in to win the game. It's attention to detail, it's analysis, it's communication - he will be right on the ball for this one for sure.

"When you are in that situation as a coach or a manager, you are trying to get the players physically and mentally in the right place. You are doing everything you can to give yourself an edge. Both teams have played and only have two days preparation. All of the staff will be focused on preparation to ensure the players are in the best place they can be to perform well."

  5. Can Arteta solve problems in front of goal?published at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    Arsenal v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

Since Mikel Arteta was appointed Arsenal manager, the Gunners have a net spend of £500.14m, according to data from Football Transfers,, external while Manchester City's is just £59.75m in that same period, helped by sales of young talent.

In the five years previous to Arteta's appointment their net spend was £235.4m.

But a lack of a striker remains the burning criticism.

Their ruthlessness in front of goal was also highlighted as an issue last season, but their only attacking addition in the summer was Raheem Sterling from Chelsea - and his impact has been minimal.

The last time Arsenal had a player score 20 goals or more in the Premier League was when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did it in 2018-19 and 2019-20.

While 20 of Arsenal's 62 goals in all competitions this season, 32% have come from set-pieces.

Jordan Pickford is in the top five greatest Premier League keepers ever. Never mind this year. Anyone who says he “only plays well for England” obviously hasn’t watched Everton much. We’re absolute plop and still in Prem - out of relegation zone this year - thanks to him.

  7. 'Arsenal have to win this game'published at 12:16 Greenwich Mean Time

    Arsenal v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

Chris Sutton BBC Sport columnist banner

Arsenal have had a bad week and right now it looks like Tottenham have a better chance of winning a trophy this season than they do.

People are quite rightly pointing out that the Gunners are missing chances and, with Bukayo Saka out injured, they are just lacking that spark in attack.

Having said all that, maybe they will find it again here, because I think the way Spurs play will suit Arsenal.

By that, I mean Mikel Arteta's side can soak up pressure and counter-attack, and even without Saka or a recognised centre-forward, I think they will get chances in this game. It is whether they take them this time. I am backing them to stick a couple away.

Of course this derby is really important to Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham in their situation, but the expansive way they play means it is tall order to expect an unfamiliar defence and new goalkeeper to step up again.

I do see Spurs scoring, but they give up a lot of chances. Arsenal have to win this game to hang on in the title race, and I think they will.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

  8. Why is frustration growing at Arteta's Arsenal?published at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time

    Arsenal v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

    Andy Cryer
    BBC Sport senior journalist

The frustration is growing at Arsenal.

Trailing Newcastle 2-0 in their EFL Cup semi-final after the first leg and now knocked out of the FA Cup by 10-man Manchester United, it has been a forgettable week for the Gunners.

On Wednesday, Mikel Arteta's men host north London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League, seven points off leaders Liverpool and having played a game more.

Arteta has now been in charge of Arsenal, a club he made more than 100 appearances for as a player, for five years and is the Premier League's third longest-serving manager.

He has helped them recover from mediocrity to consistent challengers at the top of the game but - with just the 2020 FA Cup to his name - is patience beginning to fade among some fans?

It has to be pointed out they are third in the league, still in the Champions League and in the semi-final of the League Cup - having been Manchester City's closest title challengers in recent years.

But, with questions again growing about Arsenal's inability to sign a prolific goalscorer and their, at times, functional style of play, Arsenal fans appear divided when it comes to whether Arteta can deliver success.

  9. Chelsea recall Chalobah to strengthen defencepublished at 12:05 Greenwich Mean Time

Chelsea have recalled defender Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old will boost Chelsea's squad after hamstring injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile limited manager Enzo Maresca's defensive options.

The decision to recall Chalobah was made last night on the eve of Palace's match away at Leicester in the Premier League, ahead of a deadline to use the clause later this month.

The move may be considered controversial given Palace had to withdraw Chalobah at short notice from their 1-0 FA Cup win over Stockport on Sunday.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner initially described the situation as a 'contractual issue' before further explaining yesterday: "He wants to stay here but it's a decision Chelsea can take."

Chalobah was a regular starter at Selhurst Park, making 14 appearances over his four-and-a-half-month spell in South London.

The central defender was previously considered surplus to requirements at Chelsea and trained away from the first team in a group nicknamed 'the bomb squad, a group of a dozen players unwanted by Chelsea, which included England internationals Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell.

Chelsea wanted around £25m to sell Chalobah in the previous three transfer windows.

  11. Match of the Day presenters on sharing rolepublished at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time

More from Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan, who will be the new Match of the Day presenters from next season.

"We are all friends and we've known each other for a long time and that's a really lovely part of it," said Kelly Cates, who will also continue to work for Sky Sports.

"Not only is it a great role just on its own but I'm sharing it with two people I really admire and respect and genuinely like. It's a great set-up," she said.

Gabby Logan, who first joined the BBC in 2007, has stood in for Lineker on Match of the Day before and presented many huge sporting events for the BBC, including men's and women's World Cups and European Championships, the Six Nations and the Olympics.

"I think what's interesting is although we're sharing the role, we won't actually be working together on Match of the Day," she said.

"I think it's really great to share it because we bring different experiences and different interests within the game. We bring different ways of broadcasting and that will mean our pundits are kept on their toes and share different kinds of analysis."

Mark Chapman has been the main MOTD2 host since 2013 and works regularly on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"People might find this hard to believe but there's absolutely no competition between the three of us," he said.

"This isn't about the three of us, it's about the three of us plus our pundits, plus our editors, plus our analysts and stats people and production people and radio people and online."

Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan

Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan will be the new Match of the Day presenters from next season, the BBC has announced.

It is the first time the role will be shared between three people.

They will split presenting duties for Match of the Day 2 on Sundays and MOTD: Champions League on Wednesdays, as well as Saturday's flagship show.

Gary Lineker has hosted Match of the Day since 1999 and will do so for the rest of the season.

The former England striker will continue to lead the BBC's TV coverage of the FA Cup next season and present the men's World Cup in 2026.

Cates, Chapman and Logan will be the sixth set of main presenters for Match of the Day, which is the longest-running football show in the world. It launched on 22 August 1964.

Last season, 33 million viewers tuned in across all Match of the Day Premier League and FA Cup programmes.

Former England players Alan Shearer and Micah Richards will continue as regular MOTD pundits.

  15. 'Sels best keeper in Premier League this season'published at 11:46 Greenwich Mean Time

Nottingham Forest fan Sarah Brown, speaking to BBC 5 Live Breakfast, on goalkeeper Matz Sels:

"He was just unbelievable, wasn't he? I mean, three or four magnificent saves towards the end.

"The last quarter of the game, as soon as Jota came on, he seemed to change the game.

"I think he was dead on his legs, but most of the lads were. He's been the best keeper this season in the Premier League, in my opinion."

On Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo: "A lot of the pundits had us relegated this season, I think he's doing a magnificent job.

"Nuno seems to be just getting them to look at the next game. Hopefully we can do something special this season and start writing some of our own history, rather than looking back, you know, 40 years."

Leicester City's Mads Hermansen is the keeper who has the highest average goals prevented, by a hefty distance too.

He is followed by Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers - though remember that is from a very small data set as he had only made five appearances.

Crystal Palace's Dean Henderson, West Ham's Lukasz Fabianski and Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario complete the top five, with Mats Sels (him again) next.

    • Mads Hermansen 6.44
    • Mark Travers 4.49

Three out of the four goalkeepers with the highest save percentage in the Premier League are Spanish.

Two of them are signed to Chelsea, Robert Sanchez and Kepa - the latter is currently enjoying his loan spell with Bournemouth. Kepa was unable to play in last night's fixture against his parent club. The Spanish trio is completed by Arsenal's David Raya.

Bournemouth's Mark Travers tops the list, though he has only made five Premier League appearances this season. Next is that man Mats Sels again.

    • Mark Travers - 80%
    • Mats Sels - 75.9%
    • Robert Sanchez - 73.56%
    • Kepa - 73.53%
    • David Raya - 73.13%

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels speaking to BBC Sport: "It was an amazing night with all the supporters behind us. I think one point is a good result in the end. Of course we wanted to win but we need to be happy with one point. Going 1-0 up was amazing but if you don't score the second it is always a small difference. Liverpool had a few big chances so if you are realistic it is a good point for us."

On his performance: "I am there for it, to help the team in the difficult moments. In the first-half I didn't have a lot of work but in the last 25 minutes they had a lot of big chances and it was important to keep the team in the game. Everybody fought for it until the last second - everybody gave 100%."
