Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)

Club Brugge are still plugging away and doing some good stuff but this is a huge ask for them now. The tension levels have dropped significantly.

  2. 'Perisic a natural in front of goal'published at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Arsenal 1-1 PSV Eindhoven (agg 8-2)

    Lucy Ward
Former Leeds striker on TNT Sports

We talked about Ivan Perisic's experience before the game. He is not a natural number nine but he is a natural in front of goal. His choice of shot there, he just scoops it out from underneath him. A great finish.

    Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge

    Nick Mashiter
BBC Sport football news reporter at Villa Park

Club Brugge were completely undone by one long punt by Emi Martinez and Marcus Rashford's pace. They had started really well too.

  4. Postpublished at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)

Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans shoots from the free-kick and it's saved down low by Simon Mignolet. Decent effort.

  5. 'Referee had no option'published at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)

    Matthew Upson
Former Arsenal and Brighton defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I feel for the young right back. It's 100% a foul and red card. The referee has no option.

Their line is so high up the pitch and Marcus Rashford times his run well and the moment it goes over the top the ball skids off the greasy surface.

Kyriani Sabbe is drowning at that point and Rashford has all the power and momentum.

  6. 'Atleti back to square one'published at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Real Madrid (agg 2-2)

    Steve McManaman
Former Real Madrid winger on TNT Sports

Last year Atletico tried to be a bit more progressive, easy on the eye, more entertainment value. But they conceded a lot of goals.

This year it's back to square one. We shall not concede and then we'll nick a goal.

GOAL - Arsenal 1-1 PSV Eindhoven (agg 8-2)published at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

    Ivan Perisic (PSV Eindhoven)

Former Tottenham man Ivan Perisic scores at the Emirates.

Guus Til plays a square pass to Perisic and he arrows a strike into the top corner. It's some finish and that's the 10th goal of this tie on aggregate.

    That makes it 8-2.

Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)

What a huge, huge boost that is for Aston Villa, who were being outplayed. Club Brugge, with a man down, now have to win this game by two or more.

  9. Zinchenko's first Champions League goalpublished at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Arsenal 1-0 PSV Endhoven (agg 8-1)

Oleksandr Zinchenko has been involved in a goal in the Champions League for the first time as an Arsenal player (11th appearance), with this goal his first goal involvement since providing an assist for Manchester City vs Real Madrid in April 2022.

  10. RED CARD - CLUB BRUGGEpublished at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge (agg 3-1)

    Kyriani Sabbe is off!

Marcus Rashford races onto a long punt down the field, he's in behind Sabbe and is about to be one on one with the keeper. The youngster pulls Rashford's arm just outside the box and is sent off for a professional foul.

Mad that United, Tottenham and Chelsea all got tougher ties in the Europa and Conference Leagues than Arsenal did in the Champions League.

  14. 'Mbappe here for nights like this'published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Real Madrid (agg 2-2)

    Steve McManaman
Former Real Madrid winger on TNT Sports

Nights like this are why Kylian Mbappe is here.

Real Madrid won the Champions League and La Liga last year and then brought one of the best players in the world into the team.

To go out at this level would be a major, major disappointment.

  15. Atletico wary of Real wide threatpublished at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Real Madrid (agg: 2-2)

    Stephen Warnock
Former Aston Villa defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Atletico are giving their full-backs plenty of cover when Real get the ball out wide - Conor Gallagher is one of those helping out. Real are having to come inside, and Atletico are happy with that.

You can hear more from Warnock on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 BST on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

You wouldn't guess Villa were the home team from this start.

  18. Postpublished at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March

    Aston Villa 0-0 Club Brugge

    Nick Mashiter
BBC Sport football news reporter at Villa Park
