The clip has attracted quite a bit of attention on social media. Jones has clarified what he meant.

The Liverpool midfielder posted, external a selfie with Mohamed Salah on X, captioned 'The one I’d rather have in my team'.

That begs the question who would you rather have in your team?

  2. Hazard was better...but you'd prefer Mo in your team - Jonespublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

Liverpool's England midfielder Curtis Jones has been speaking to TNT Sports about looking up to former Chelsea star Eden Hazard and the often-made comparisons between the Belgian and Reds' Egyptian talisman Mohamed Salah.

Jones' response has raised a few eyebrows.

He told TNT Sports: "I know he [Hazard] is compared with Mo all the time. I’ve been into it with Mo. As a player who I’ve seen from [being] a kid, I loved the game, I was studying the game and I wanted to be like a player. I feel like it was Hazard who was the one. Every game I watched him I was just like wow… that’s football."

Jones added: "As a footballer is he better than Mo? In my opinion yes. But who would you rather have in your team? You’re going to say Mo because he gets you the goals and the assists."

Pretty obvious the problem at Spurs at the moment. The manager has too many injuries, simple as that. The owners need to spend or they hanging Ange out to dry and it will be another sacking come the end of the season.

The problem has always come from the board. Postecoglou looks like he’s drowning and out of his depth but Levy doesn’t ever truly back any of his managers with enough decent recruitment and tends to pull the trigger way too early on most of them. Time to go Levy. Quarter of a century approaching and one League Cup just don’t cut it. He’s culpable.

    Everton 3-2 Tottenham

    • Tottenham have lost 12 games in the Premier League this season
    • The only sides who have lost more in the league this season are Wolves, Leicester and Southampton
    • Tottenham have failed to win in their past six games in the Premier League; their last joint-longest winless streak was 13 December 2008 to 18 January 2009
    • Spurs have won just one of their past 10 Premier League matches (drawn two, lost seven), with that victory coming at bottom side Southampton (5-0)
    • Tottenham have lost 18 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season - only Fulham (19) have lost more.
  6. Dr Tottenham?published at 13:33 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

    Everton 3-2 Tottenham

So a good day for David Moyes and Everton.

It's been mooted that Spurs provided the perfect opposition, as the Toffees became the latest side to benefit from playing "Dr Tottenham".

The theory goes that sides suffering a poor run of form seem to be able to end that run by gaining a rare three points against Spurs.

Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town won for the first time in the league this season against Ange Postecoglou's side.

So who's up next for Spurs in the Premier League? It's Leicester - who are two points from safety and have lost their last seven matches in the league.

'Moyes has first crack at keeping Everton job'published at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

Andy Jones: Morning Phil. Do you feel like David Moyes will stay as manager throughout his contract length as Everton manager?

Hello, Andy. No-one can ever say with any confidence any manager will last the length of his contract.

It’s a really interesting situation at Everton because, as I’ve said before, I do think The Friedkin Group would have liked to reach the end of the season under Sean Dyche then make a wide sweep and a considered change, but circumstances (and results) changed and that was not possible.

David Moyes was available and experienced and has now been awarded a two-and-a-half-year deal.

He has first crack at keeping the job long-term and I believe if he keeps Everton up (and performances like yesterday’s against Spurs will help) then he will take the club into the new stadium and deservedly so.

    Football, though, is very unpredictable.

    Daniel LevyImage source, Getty Images

@therealasliatta: What's the real issue? Ange Postecoglou trying to find a way with a depleted squad? Or Daniel Levy not opening up the purse strings and giving him some depth in the first place?

I was at Goodison Park yesterday and, at least judging by the noise coming from the Spurs fans, there is no doubt who they blame. They went through their full anti-Daniel Levy songsheet, and while they gave the team a very rough reception at half-time then just drifted away at the end, I did not detect any chants aimed at Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs adopted a strategy of signing younger players in the summer, such as Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, something which Postecoglou said he bought into. I believe they will be two outstanding signings for years to come.

Dominic Solanke arrived for £65m, so he was a big money, experienced buy, but there was a feeling more was needed and now a serious injury crisis has worsened that situation.

  9. Cups of joy for Spurs?published at 13:19 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

    Tottenham Hotspur

Just a reminder, Tottenham are still in three cup competitions.

They resume their Europa League campaign at Hoffenheim on Thursday and finish the extended league phase at home to Elfsborg on 30 January. Spurs are currently ninth in the table, which would be enough to book a place in the first knockout stage.

In the domestic competitions, Spurs take a 1-0 aggregate lead to Liverpool on 6 February in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final and, three days later, face a trip to Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

'Cups are pivotal for Postecoglou and Spurs'published at 13:12 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January

Karl: How long for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham? For me, until we are out of the cups.

There is no doubt the cups are pivotal, Karl, and we know only too well that Daniel Levy is not exactly known for his patience with managers.

The big question is if you change, what or who are you changing for? If you do it during the season, who can you realistically get that you would want or would it be another Ryan Mason holding operation?

Saying “sack Ange Postecoglou” is the easy bit, if that is what people want – the hard part is finding someone who would do better and is available. Not easy.

Agree, though, the cup competitions are assuming more importance all the time.

    Liverpool

Liverpool are hoping to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League when they face Ligue 1 side Lille at Anfield on Tuesday in what will be the penultimate game of the extended league phase.

Arne Slot's side are sitting pretty at the top of the table in Europe with six wins from as many matches in the league phase, including against Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, their French opponents, managed by Bruno Genesio, are eighth with 13 points and currently occupy the final automatic qualification spot for the last 16.

Sides that finish ninth to 24 will go into an extra play-off round of knockout games, while those 25th and below will be eliminated.

The final round of games in the league phase will take place on 29 January.

Liverpool players have been out on the training pitch this lunchtime as Arne Slot prepares his side to face Lille in the Champions League at Anfield on Tuesday.

Portugal forward Diogo Jota was conspicuous by his absence among those on the training field in Kirkby.

Jota missed the Reds' trip to Brentford after picking up a knock against Nottingham Forest last Tuesday.

Joe Gomez was the other notable absentee as the defender continues to nurse a hamstring injury picked up during the 5-0 win against West Ham on 29 December.

Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah were among those involved in the session.

For now, any sort of title challenge will be far from Pep Guardiola's mind and instead he will just be pleased to see his players enjoying themselves again on the pitch.

Phil Foden, in particular, is looking more like the player who claimed a career-best 27 goals and 12 assists last season to be named PFA Player of the Year.

His two goals against Ipswich took his tally to five in the last three league games as he showed a hunger and desire to get into the right positions to finish off chances again.

"It is good to see me back scoring goals with a smile on my face and enjoying football," said Foden, 24.

"I want to keep going and adding to that. You never know what can happen. The aim is to stay in the top four."

After Erling Haaland committed his long-term future to the club last week by signing a nine-and-a-half year deal, Guardiola is keen for Foden to follow in his footsteps.

"He can be a one-club man and finish his career here and play many, many years," said the City boss.

"We talked many times over the last month or weeks, he was a completely different boy at the beginning of the season with a few problems, because they are human beings and sometimes in a long career you have a setback, it's normal.

"But we're really pleased that he's happy again and enjoying playing and that's really good for all of us."

"It was a comfortable and easy performance for them because Ipswich slipped up in the defence and provided them with easy goals," said former Premier League midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker on the Football Daily podcast.

"For me it was just an easy day at the office and I don't see them back in the title race."

Glenn Murray added: "I am in agreement. They could easily finish second but Liverpool are too far ahead and I can't see them being able to catch them.

"They do look to be on the mend though and the cavalry has arrived in the transfer window."

Owen Hatrick from Uganda: Hi Phil, I would like to hear your thoughts about whether Manchester City are back in contention in the Premier League title race and where do you see them finish come May?

Hi, Owen. I realise only a fool would write off Manchester City’s title chances but I’m going to do exactly that right now.

I just think a gap of 12 points, having played a game more than leaders Liverpool, is too much for even Manchester City to make up.

It would take an incredible sequence of results from City, and a collapse from Liverpool, for this to happen and I just don’t see it.

Where will City finish? Definitely top four and I could even see them finishing second if they discover something more of their real selves.
