Feyenoord v Inter Milan (17:45 GMT)

    • Feyenoord have lost just one of their 12 home games in European competition against Italian sides (W7 D4), with the exception being a 2-1 defeat to Roma during the 2014-15 Europa League.
    • Inter Milan are unbeaten across their last 11 games against Dutch sides in European competition (W7 D4), since a 1-0 defeat to Feyenoord in April 2002.
    • Having eliminated AC Milan in the play-off round, Feyenoord could become just the fourth side to beat both AC and Inter in the same Champions League campaign, after Tottenham in 2010-11, Liverpool in 2021-22 and Bayer Leverkusen this season.
    • Feyenoord have converted 13 of their 19 big chances in the Champions League this season, with their conversion rate (68%) the highest of any side in the competition in 2024-25. On the other hand, Inter Milan have only scored 25% of their big chances (7/28); the lowest conversion rate of any side remaining in the current edition.

Half time show? So ridiculous! Years ago I thought Fifa was finally going to be better once Sepp Blatter had finally been kicked out, how wrong I was. Fifa are worse than ever.

    Benfica v Barcelona (20:00 GMT)

    • Benfica and Barcelona have faced each other on 10 previous occasions in the European Cup or Champions League, with the 11th making it the joint-most times Benfica have faced an opponent across the two competitions (alongside Manchester United and Bayern Munich).
    • Barcelona have only lost one of their last 10 away games against Portuguese sides in European competition (W7 D2), although that one defeat did come at Benfica in September 2021 (0-3 in a group stage match).
    • Benfica’s 10 games in the Champions League this season have seen 35 goals scored (20 for, 15 against). Only in one previous edition have they had a higher goals per game ratio (3.9 in 2022-23 - 26 for, 13 against).
    • Among managers with 10 or more games in the Champions League, Hansi Flick has the highest win percentage in the competition’s history (85% - 22 wins in 26 games).

    In short, it was chaos.

Barcelona twice fought back from two goals down - and two Wojciech Szczesny howlers - to snatch a dramatic 5-4 victory at Benfica during this year's Champions League league phase.

The hosts made a dream start as Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis hit a 30-minute hat-trick, helped by two mistakes from Polish keeper Szczesny, while Robert Lewandowski replied from the penalty spot for the Spanish side.

Goals for Raphinha and Lewandowski, either side of an Ronald Araujo own goal, then left Barca one behind at 4-3.

But Eric Garcia headed home a late equaliser and in the 96th minute, just after Szczesny had made a fine block from Angel di Maria and Benfica were denied a penalty, Raphinha broke away and slotted past Anatoliy Trubin to leave the home crowd stunned.

Of the 40 times that Benfica have scored four goals or more in a European home match, this was the only occasion when they’ve ever failed to win.

  7. Bundesliga state of playpublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time

Bayern Munich v Bayer Leverkusen (20:00 GMT)

Bayer Leverkusen did the unthinkable last season when they went the entire Bundesliga season unbeaten to be crowned champions.

They finished 17 points ahead of Bayern Munich, winning 28 of their 34 fixtures and drawing the other six.

It was always going to be a near impossible task to replicate - and this season some normality has returned to the German top flight.

Munich have reclaimed top spot for now, and sit eight points ahead of Leverkusen in second with 10 games to play.

Xabi Alonso's side have hit form at the right time though. They haven't lost in the league since August and have only one defeat in all competitions since then.

Bayern Munich v Bayer Leverkusen (20:00 GMT)

    • This will be the first ever meeting between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in major European competition. Bayern Munich won their last match against German opposition in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund in the 2012-13 final, while Bayer Leverkusen last faced German opposition in the 2007-08 UEFA Cup when they were defeated 3-2 by Hamburg.
    • Bayern Munich have lost just one of their last 11 home games played at the Champions League last 16 stage (W9 D1), a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in March 2019. Across those 11 matches, the Bavarians have scored 41 goals in total.
    • Bayer Leverkusen have won just one of their prior ten Champions League round of 16 games (D1 L8), a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in February 2015, although they were still eliminated by the Spanish side in the tie.
    • Since joining Bayern Munich in August 2023, no player has scored more Champions League goals than Harry Kane (15 – level with Kylian Mbappe). In that time frame, the Englishman also leads all players in the competition for overall goal contributions (20 – 15 goals, five assists).

Under Xabi Alonso, Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in their six matches against Bayern Munich across all competitions (W3 D3).

Leverkusen have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four against them, after not keeping any in their previous 15 games against Bayern beforehand (42 goals conceded in those 15 matches).

After Branislav Ivanovic’s 93rd minute header vs Benfica in the 2013 Europa League final, there was still time for him to slip as a long ball came in at Cardozo’s feet. What Gary Cahill did next was, for me, the real match winner. Astonishing.

    PSG v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Liverpool have lost each of their past three games in the knockout stages of the Champions League, with all three defeats coming against holders Real Madrid.

    However...

According to Opta, the Reds remain the overall favourites to win the entire competition this season (18.7%). Wednesday's opponents Paris St-Germain are rated sixth to win the tournament at 9.2%.

Djed Spence has played terrifically well at Spurs as left back. Worth a call up!

Current best English left back isn't even a left back - step forward Djed Spence.

    Sam, Hants

We may not have any great left backs at the moment but Djed Spence has played brilliantly in that position for Spurs the last few months and amidst a patched together back four has certainly shown he could be used there at a push.

  14. Dembele emerges as PSG talismanpublished at 14:15 Greenwich Mean Time

    PSG v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

    Raphael Jucobin
    BBC Sport in Paris

Leading the reversal in fortunes has been Ousmane Dembele's newly found confidence in front of goal, with the 27-year-old finally realising the potential of his talent.

The France international, despite arguably being the face of the club with Kylian Mbappe gone, has scarcely been given any kind of preferential treatment.

He was notably dropped for the trip to face Arsenal in October, for arriving late to training, a move which Enrique later branded more recently as "the best thing I've done to him".

After a needless sending off in the defeat by Bayern Munich, Dembele was again relegated to the bench for the following league games.

With 18 goals across all competitions since the turn of the year, the 27-year-old has scored more in two months than any single season of his to date.

  16. PSG's post-Mbappe era, no 'clans' and foreign stars' French buy-inpublished at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time

Rarely in the past decade and a half of Qatari ownership have Paris St-Germain entered the spring with this kind of confidence.

While the post-Kylian Mbappe era arguably started midway through last season, given that the France captain was mostly spared for high-profile matches at that point, replacing his output and leading role remained the major uncertainty on the eve of the new campaign.

That task was made all the more pressing by the absence of a centre-forward in name during most of the autumn.

Portuguese international Goncalo Ramos was sidelined for three months with an ankle injury, while Randal Kolo Muani was progressively phased out of the team, eventually culminating in his loan move to Juventus this winter.

Initially, it was Bradley Barcola, from the left wing, who took up the mantle by scoring 10 times in the first 11 league games of the campaign.

The Parisians' free-scoring run since January has included 18 goals in four European encounters, with Ousmane Dembele leading the way.

Since when was the sound of the crowd, the atmosphere of the ground, and the anticipation of the game not thrill enough for any real fan? Can't be doing with pre-game shows, half-time shows, flamethrowers and the like. In any case, I imagine the top half time priority will be the queue for the loos.

  18. 'Dangerous game' for Liverpoolpublished at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time

    PSG v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on the Football Daily podcast

I think this is a dangerous game for Liverpool and of course with Liverpool they're flying in the Premier League but I think Arne Slot was quite right about the draw, they would have much preferred Benfica. PSG have players who can really hurt Liverpool. Liverpool have had a phenomenal season but I think they've got their work cut out to beat PSG, I really do.

I think it will be really close, I think it will be tight going to Anfield. I wouldn’t rule anything out in this tie. I think that is the tie of the round and Liverpool have been phenomenal this season.

Can they do the Champions League double with the Premier League and of course they’ve got the Carabao Cup final coming up. But for them to be in this position, at this stage of the competition, nobody saw this coming from Arne Slot.

  19. Gakpo a big doubt for PSGpublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time

    PSG v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is a big doubt for Liverpool's game against Paris St-Germain after picking up a knock on Tuesday.

The Netherlands international is the Reds' second-highest scorer this season with 16 goals in all competitions.

"He was close to being ready to play again but unfortunately yesterday he had to block a shot and he felt a bit of pain again," Slot said.

"We brought him with us to judge how if he can be part of the squad but it will be a close call."
