Still can't believe we got rid of a legend like Mourinho. True, his style was underwhelming and he caused friction with the players, but at least he won us a couple of trophies. But now look at us: we're stuck with Ten Hag, whose style is underwhelming, he causes friction with the players and he's only won a couple of trophies. Wish we could go back to the good old days under Jose.

Former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere has joined Norwich City as a coach with the first team.

The 32-year-old moves to Carrow Road from the role of Arsenal's Under-18 manager, which he began after ending his playing career.

There had been a vacancy in head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup's backroom team since Narcis Pelach left last month to become Stoke head coach.

"It is a fantastic opportunity at a very impressive club, and one which has come at the right time to progress my coaching career within a first-team environment," Wilshere said.

  11. Burton sack head coach Robinsonpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 23 October 2024

A bit of League One news for you from earlier today.

Burton Albion this morning sacked head coach Mark Robinson following a run of seven successive defeats in all competitions.

Robinson, 58, left his previous job as Chelsea's development squad boss to become Burton head coach in June.

But he won only one of his 14 games in charge - in the EFL Trophy - and the club's Scandinavian owners decided enough was enough following Tuesday's 3-2 home loss to Wycombe Wanderers.

The Brewers are bottom of League One with four points from 11 games, already 11 points from safety.

  12. Players 'wait on Fifa payments'published at 13:17 British Summer Time 23 October 2024

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

World governing body Fifa has been accused of not paying the final part of agreed sums to players across Europe whose contracts have not been honoured by their clubs.

Numerous sources across different countries with knowledge of the situation say while some payments were made, the final one has not.

Many players affected are either unemployed or now retired and the sums are said to be vital.

The money was due to come out of Fifa's ‘Fund for Players’,, external which was set up in 2020. The outstanding payments were due in September 2023.

BBC Sport has seen an email sent to Fifa from one national union highlighting in excess of 30 named players, stressing the financial difficulties being faced, with a plea to release the outstanding sums.

In total, 420 players are owed a total of $4m (£3.09m).

Fifa has been approached for comment.

The organisation is currently in dispute with global players’ union Fifpro over changes to the international match calendar. Fifpro, which is being backed by the Professional Footballers’ Association, believes too much is being demanded of players at the elite end of the game which potentially puts them at risk of greater injury.

Their biggest area of contention is the expanded 32-team Club World Cup, scheduled for the United States next summer. So far, Fifa has failed to negotiate television contracts for the event and confirm the prizemoney involved.

Fenerbahce v Man Utd (Thu, 20:00 BST)

A final word from Jose Mourinho on his former club Manchester United: "Maybe you English guys think I'm bluffing, playing mind-games. I'm not playing anything - they have a better team than results are showing.

"I studied them the maximum I could. We watched everything in the Premier League, [and previous Europa League games against] Twente and Porto - there is work there.

"They will succeed sooner or later. Hopefully sooner and before one day I go back to the Premier League and they become my opponents. At this moment they are just my opponents for one match."

Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho on his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson whilst at Manchester United and whether he is surprised he has lost his ambassadorial role: “My relation with Sir Alex was amazing, incredible and when my Netflix documentary comes out you will know more about the reason why I have so much respect for him.

"The ambassadorial role...I don't know in depth the situation. It doesn't matter why, what. Sir Alex has the most important thing, which is the love and respect of every Man United fan around the world."

  16. 'United and Spurs biggest candidates to win Europa League'published at 12:55 British Summer Time 23 October 2024

Fenerbahce v Man Utd (Thu, 20:00 BST)

More from Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho on which sides he believes are favourites to win the Europa League: "If I have to say now which are the two biggest candidates to win the Europa League, I think it's easy - Manchester United and Tottenham.

"The Premier League is a different level of quality, intensity, pace, tactical culture - a different level of everything.

"Tomorrow, I think we are going to play against one of the two strongest teams."

  17. 'They have to pay me the bonus and give me the medal'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 23 October 2024

Fenerbahce v Man Utd (Thu, 20:00 BST)

More from Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho on whether Manchester United have changed since he left: "Honestly I didn't lose one minute thinking about it. I wish the best to Manchester United since the moment I left. I left with a good feeling for the club and its fans and I want the best for them.

"If things aren't going amazingly well for them, it’s not something that makes me happy. But I have no time, it doesn’t make sense for me to be thinking about what happened, what didn't happen.

"What happened for sure is that they now keep faith in the coach [Erik ten Hag], supporting the coach, who is staying season after season. That means stability and means trust, giving him conditions to keep his job."

Mourinho also made a quip about the charges made against Manchester City for allegedly breaching the Premier League's financial rules during his time at Old Trafford and wondered whether he may be awarded the title after finishing second behind City in the 2017-18 season, while he was in charge: "That was a difference in relation to me, we won the Europa League and finished second in the Premier League. I think we still have a chance to win that league, maybe they punish Manchester City with points, we win that league. They have to pay me the bonus and give me the medal."

  18. 'I don't see any reason for Man Utd to be afraid of Fenerbahce'published at 12:42 British Summer Time 23 October 2024

Fenerbahce v Man Utd (Thu, 20:00 BST)

Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho on what precautions he'd take facing Fenerbahce if he was the Manchester United boss : "I'm not the coach of Manchester United. I don't see any reason for Manchester United to be afraid of Fenerbahce but I think they know it's not an easy game for them. If they think it's easy, if they come thinking it'll be easy, it is the wrong approach and I don't think that will be the approach. They know the game can be difficult for them.

"I think they will come with maximum strength, I don’t think they are going to rotate players before next weekend’s match, they come full strength, that’s what I’d do."

  19. 'I left United with a good feeling towards fans' - Mourinhopublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 23 October 2024

Fenerbahce v Man Utd (Thu, 20:00 BST)

BBC Sport's Simon Stone gets in a question to Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho on why Manchester United have endured problems since his departure.

He says he left with a "good feeling" towards the United fans and wants the best for them.

He added that current issues on the pitch do not make him happy but he spends "no time" worrying about that.

Mourinho noted the support that has been given to current United head coach Erik ten Hag, saying the club owners have put their trust in him, which means "stability".
