A win is a win for Arsenal especially in Champions League! Still think we are missing that little something to take us to next level! In my humble opinion that's two or three players? The priority has to be a good old-fashioned centre-forward? But those players don't come easy and don't come cheap. I also believe the time has come for Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus to move on, they have never really clicked on the pitch for Arsenal.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola consistently responded "it doesn't matter" when asked whether he was approached by the FA for the England job.

"Thomas Tuchel is the manager, forget about it," he said, speaking two days after Tuchel was announced as the new England boss. "I'm the manager of Man City, forget about it. The rest is not important."

On whether England's manager should be English, Guardiola said: "We don't decide where we're born. Mum and dad decide that and nine months later we're here!

"I know we are proud of where we are from but the world is so big. You have to be open-minded."

Ok, let’s be surprised about this, Pep Guardiola was actually offered the [England] job and he thought about it for two months, after two months, he said no because 'I don't even know what I'm going to do at the end of this season'.

Manchester City right now feel he’s closer to staying than leaving, but nobody really knows – what seems clear is that in the cycle from the next World Cup to the following one, he will have a national side and England are favourites.

It's 18 months that Thomas Tuchel has the job, it takes him to the World Cup. Ok, if Tuchel wins the World Cup then forget that plan.

Guardiola was offered the England job before Thomas Tuchel was appointed, according to Balague.

  5. 'We played mature and deserved to win'published at 08:19 British Summer Time

    Aston Villa 2-0 Bologna

More from Aston Villa manager Unai Emery on his side's "mature" performance in Tuesday's win at home to Bologna: "I'm delighted how we are facing each match in this competition. The experience we had in the Conference League has been the perfect way to help us this year. Those experiences were fantastic.

"Of course, the Champions League is more difficult but we are playing more mature and more responsible. Our strength is the group.

"Our start has been brilliant [with wins over Young Boys, Bayern Munich and Bologna]. We have kept the same mentality - we respected Bayern Munich and respected Bologna the same.

"The games are so tight, but we created more chances than usual. My summary today is we played mature and we deserved to win."

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery was understandably unwilling to get carried away with his side's position at the top of the table, saying that the objective was still to ensure at least a play-off tie, rather than focusing on making the top eight and an automatic route into the last-16.

"We are going to focus on each match and how we are in the moment," he said after Tuesday's win at home to Bologna maintained Villa's 100% start after three games.

"Of course we won the first match away at Young Boys and then against Bayern Munich we were hoping to win to help get in the top eight.

"Today we've got another three points, now we must focus on Bruges [Villa's next Champions League game on Wednesday, 6 November].

"Of course if we keep getting points we can change our objective and try to get in the top eight.

"There are other contenders bigger favourites than us, but we are improving and we will see how we continue."

I know there's a big backlash over ticket prices but I made the pilgrimage from SE London to take my dad to Villa and it was worth every penny. First time in many years, and first top-tier European game in my lifetime. Given our start, hopefully it doesn't prove to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

This was another night to remember for Aston Villa fans under Unai Emery as their team go from strength to strength under the Spaniard.

When Villa announced the Emery's appointment on 24 October 2022, following the sacking of Steven Gerrard, they were struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

Fast forward 24 months and Villa are enjoying their best start to a Premier League season in 26 years while sweeping all before them in Europe.

They are top of the revamped Champions League table, which has been extended to include 36 teams.

Villa need another two wins from their final five league games to reach 15 points, which the Opta supercomputer , externalbelieves is required to secure a top-eight finish and automatic passage to the last-16.

    Aston Villa 2-0 Bologna

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast

I just think it's amazing the way Aston Villa have started - away at Young Boys, the big night against Bayern and then this was a tricky game tonight. This was one of those matches where Villa were in the position of favourites, they were at home, they had to take the lead, drive the game, drive the tempo and from what I saw of it they did it really, really well.

[Jhon] Duran getting a goal again, this guy is just on fire. You've got that great competition for centre-forward - two players that are capable of scoring goals in games. They are in a good place and what a great start back in the Champions League.

Aston Villa's magical Champions League journey continued as they marked Unai Emery's second anniversary in charge by going top of the league phase on another European night to remember.

Captain John McGinn, Villa's longest-serving player, set his side on their way against Bologna straight from a free-kick at a raucous Villa Park.

McGinn's 55th-minute set-piece from out wide evaded everyone inside the penalty area - including Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski - before landing in the back of the net.

The Italians were upset with Portuguese referee Joao Pinheiro as they believed they should have been awarded a free-kick moments earlier.

Villa doubled their lead nine minutes later when Jhon Duran marked his first Villa Park start for 11 months by sweeping home from close range, his seventh goal of the season.

It was his last touch as he was replaced by Ollie Watkins, who was waiting to come on when the Colombia forward scored, with Duran showing his displeasure at being replaced by kicking the back of a seat in the dugout.

Having beaten Swiss side Young Boys and heavyweights Bayern Munich earlier this season, Villa now have nine points from three games as Emery's side continue to make light work of their return to European football's top club competition.

Goals from John McGinn and Jhon Duran gave Aston Villa a deserved victory at home to Bologna as Unai Emery's side maintained their 100% start to the new-look Champions League - going top of the table after following up wins against Young Boys and Bayern Munich.

And Mikel Arteta's Arsenal moved up to fourth after making it seven points from a possible nine with a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Gabriel Martinelli's first-half shot, which rebounded back off a post and into the net off Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk, proved enough for the Gunners at the Emirates.
