  1. 'Everyone comes in the next day even more hungry' - Odegaardpublished at 22:56 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: Arsenal 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb

    Arsenal

Arsenal's Martin Odegaard speaking to TNT Sports: "We needed that. We put ourselves in a really good situation now and I got a goal. It was a good and solid win so I'm very happy."

On the squad's mood: "Results always influence a little bit the mood but I think it's been good. Everyone just wants to get better. Every time we drop points everyone comes in the next day even more hungry and even more ready to go again. I think that's the mentality, always one more, always got to be better and that's good to see."

On needing reinforcements: "I think with the injuries we've been a little bit short but you look at the team we have so much quality so if we can keep everyone fit then that's the main thing and we have to focus on the players that are here. Today we all did well."

On his captain style: "I think everyone is different, different ways to lead. For me the main thing was to be myself and I think that was the reason why [Mikel Arteta] chose me as the captain. That means I've been doing something the right way. Definitely lead by example and try to influence the team in the best possible way and to get the best out of everyone."

On the pressure on him and Declan Rice to get forward: "[Arteta's] always pushing us to be better and we want goals from the midfielders and I haven't been good enough there this season. Finally got a goal today so that was good and we spoke a lot about being in the right areas to attack that space."

  2. 'City could not keep the ball at all'published at 22:53 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: PSG 4-2 Man City

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

The most shocking thing about City’s performance is how poorly they managed the game from 2-0 up. City teams of the past would have taken the sting out of the game and stayed in control, but instead they could not keep the ball at all.

You can hear more from Onuoha on MOTD: Uefa Champions League on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

  3. 'I accept the defeat because the best team won'published at 22:52 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: PSG 4-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to TNT Sports: "The first half they had some moments, we had some moments, but they were better. We scored the first goal, we could not control it. In that moment we were knocked out and they were lifted and then they were better. They were quicker, faster, stronger in the duels. They had control in the middle and we could not cope with that.

"I accept the defeat because the best team won. We have a last chance at home against Club Bruges. If we win then hopefully we can qualify.

"The game was never like we wanted but for that I give so much credit to PSG. They are an extraordinary team. But at 2-0 if we could manage it... but they scored right after. Then if we could keep the ball a little bit and stay like that if would have been better but we could not do it.

"To defend the result you have to keep the ball and we did not do that. They had it more, they attacked better and that is why it was difficult.

"[On City going out of the competition] It could happen. If we don't win, we don't deserve it. Sporting is tough, PSG is tough, Juventus is tough, all the away games we had were difficult. This is the reality. We did not get enough points. The last game against Bruges will dictate what we have to do."

  6. It's a massive step - Artetapublished at 22:47 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT Arsenal 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to TNT Sports: “I’m very happy to win again at home and get a clean sheet, four in a row in the competition. It’s a massive step. We’re very close to achieving the goal we had before the group stage started.”

On the collective ambition for goals: "Yes, I'm happy. We generated quite a lot [of chances]. Declan [Rice] especially, but he missed a few big chances, and really good from Martin [Odegaard]. His first goal [and] he really needed that. You could tell by the way he celebrated that he had an anger and a desire to do it, so overall a really positive night."

On Declan Rice’s goal-scoring potential: “The last few games, he had some big chances. The more consistent he is in those positions, with the quality he has, he will score goals.”

  11. 'Massive for Celtic, massive for Scottish football'published at 22:38 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT: Celtic 1-0 Young Boys

    Chris Sutton
Former Celtic striker on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Because of who they were playing, before the game this felt like an open goal for Celtic - but it looked like it was turning into one of those nights for them.

They had so many opportunities in the first half but then in the second half they looked tired and lacked a spark - Young Boys had the better of things and Celtic had Kasper Schmeichel to thank for keeping them out.

Then just when it looked like the game was petering out, they got the bit of luck they needed.

Had they not won, they would be going to Aston Villa for their final game with their place in the play-offs up in the air, but now they know they are in the top 24 - it is massive for them, and massive for Scottish football.

You can hear more from Sutton on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 GMT on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.

  12. Bottom half of the tablepublished at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

This is how the bottom half of the league table stands. Any side that finishes 25th or below after eight gameweeks will be eliminated.

Manchester City, European champions in 2023, currently occupy 25th spot, but with Stuttgart in 24th entertaining Paris St-Germain in 22nd next week in a winner-takes-all-clash, that gives City a route into the play-offs.

If City win at home to Club Bruges, then Pep Guardiola's side will scrape into the play-offs. If they draw or lose to Club Bruges, City will be out and their European campaign will be all over before the end of January.

All the teams from Bologna in 28th and down can't make the play-offs.

  16. Top half of the tablepublished at 22:22 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

This is how it stands in the Champions League after seven gameweeks. Liverpool and Barcelona are definitely through to the last 16.

Arsenal are three points clear of ninth-placed Aston Villa, with a goal difference seven better. Celtic will have at least a play-off place, and have an outside chance of the top eight but need to win at Villa next Wednesday and hope results go their way.

Villa have to beat Celtic and hope for some luck to get in the top eight, or it is the play-offs for them.

After everyone has played eight times, the top eight go straight into last 16 and those ninth to 24th meet in two-legged play-offs to join them.

  19. Important to bounce back tonight - Ricepublished at 22:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

    FT Arsenal 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb

    Arsenal

Arsenal's Declan Rice speaking to TNT Sport on sharing collective responsibility: "It's so important, I think the manager has been on us really hard about midfielders arriving because so many goals can come from there. It's down to us to make up that extra five, 10 yards.

"Martin [Odegaard] obviously did there at the end, I did for the header, so we've got to keep arriving there. Everybody's contributing."

"Look it was an important win tonight. It's been a very positive Champions League campaign, so we've got one more to go now, hopefully we can win that as well."

On taking the momentum into the second half of the season: "I hope so. What I learnt from last year is that you need to be there or there abouts at this time of the season and we are at the minute.

"Look, we need to keep winning games. I think the game at the weekend, 2-0 up [against Aston Villa], we drew 2-2 it's a real kick in the teeth, we should be seeing it out but to bounce back tonight and win and now we go into Wolves."

"It's been a tough month but keep being positive and we go again."
