  1. 'Important to finish in a positive place'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 18 May

Tottenham v West Ham (15:00 BST)

West Ham won't see their position change from second-bottom today, but manager Rehanne Skinner made it clear that her players will still be up for a big game this afternoon.

They play Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - and London derby bragging rights are on the line.

"Let's make no mistake, it's going to be a battle and that's what you'd expect," she said.

"I don't think either team will approach this as a last game of the season and winding down. Even for the players, it's an opportunity to continue an unbeaten run for us.

That's important for us, we want to finish in a positive place from that side of things. We're unbeaten across our last three WSL away games against Tottenham so we want to keep that going as well."

  2. Foster's last game in charge of Leicesterpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 18 May

    Leicester v Liverpool (15:00 BST)

Interim Leicester boss Jennifer FosterImage source, Getty Images

It has been a turbulent end to the season for Leicester following the sacking of former head coach WIllie Kirk after an internal review.

The Foxes have taken just two points from their last seven WSL games and interim boss Jennifer Foster has confirmed that the match against Liverpool at the King Power will be her last at the helm.

“The club are in the process of hiring a new manager and the process is coming to the final stages which is great,” Foster said.

“The manager that they’re looking for is one with ambition and I’m really excited to work with them.

“This will be my last game in charge. I have loved it but I’m really excited to work with the new manager that comes in.”

A new permanent manager is expected to be appointed soon and Foster expects the club to perform much better next season.

"We’ve fallen short of where we’ve wanted to be in the last couple of months, added onto that already from the start of the season," she added.

“We are a little bit disappointed in the position that we are in but I do think it bodes well for next season. We have real talent at this club and in this team.”

  3. 'A break is needed'published at 14:24 British Summer Time 18 May

Carla Ward graces the front cover of the programme ahead of her final game as Villa manager after three years in charge.

"This has been one of the hardest decisions I have made in my life, but self-reflection has been key and a break is needed", she writes in her programme notes.

It will be an emotional farewell for Ward, with a signs saying 'Thank you Carla' all around the Villa Park pitch, while her four-year-old child Hartley will be a mascot today.

There won't be too much by way of a goodbye celebration afterwards however - I've been told she's off at 6am tomorrow for a well-deserved holiday.

Emma Hayes is not the only managerial goodbye this afternoon.

Aston Villa are also saying goodbye to Carla Ward after three years in charge.

Ward has led Villa to their highest ever WSL finish - fifth in 2022-23 - and two domestic cup semi-finals.

Mother to four-year-old Hartley, she departs a year before her contract was due to expire" to prioritise other important things - such as family life".

"When I came into this club there was one cabin outside that had a changing room, gym and a staff office. Now we’ve got a big building here, a couple of others outside, our own gym, player areas and have maximised on and off the pitch massively," said Ward.

"We have attracted some of the best players in the women’s game and we’ve put Aston Villa on the map. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved here.

"We’ve had some great times. It’s one last dance at the weekend."

    Arsenal v Brighton (15:00 BST)

Like many in the Women's Super League today, there's very little riding on this game.

The most that could happen is that Brighton's position in the table could change. They could move up from ninth to eighth if their result is better than Everton's.

For Arsenal, their position in the league is all wrapped up. They've qualified for next season's Champions League and will join in the first round of qualifying.

  8. Letting Miedema go 'best for the club'published at 14:16 British Summer Time 18 May

    Arsenal v Brighton (15:00 BST)

Today could be Vivianne Miedema's last appearance for Arsenal, but she'll have to be brought off the bench to play her final game in front of the Gunners fans.

The decision to allow her contract to expire has been controversial.

Former England striker Ellen White called it "shocking".

But Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall defended decision, saying he "understands why decisions like this leave lots of raw emotions".

"My message [to the fans] would be that, when we are working, when we are taking decisions like this, it's to build Arsenal as strong as possible for the future.

"We want nothing more than to be as successful as possible on the pitch and that's the direction we want to go as a club."

  11. Farewell Stephpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 18 May

    Emma Smith
    BBC Sport at Villa Park

Huge cheers from the travelling City fans for Steph Houghton as she stepped off the team bus with her team mates on arrival at Villa Park today.

The 36-year-old Lionesses legend is retiring after today's game, following a stellar career featuring three WSL titles and 121 England caps.

Houghton starred when England finished third at the 2015 World Cup - arguably the trigger point for the huge recent growth in the popularity of women's football in this country.

She has very much been a fringe player for City this season, with just three WSL appearances - but if anyone deserves a dream send-off today, it is Steph.

Reading and England striker on the Football Focus

It's nerve-wracking [the final day]. Chelsea are used to winning games but it doesn't change.

I remember waking up, butterflies in the belly, feeling sick and just wanting the whistle to blow - I think that's what they [Chelsea] will want. All of the lead-up is the hardest bit, they will just want to get onto the pitch and do what they do best and then it's just another game of football.

I am a fan of Manchester United, so I cannot claim "fandom" of Emma Hayes but I can rightly admire her achievements. 12 years as Manager of any club in any league is a rarity, and to do it at the top and chasing titles only adds to it. I wish Emma a good career in the USA - she knows she will find it very different , including seeing your team only for training camps and on international breaks. We are out to rain on her final parade , for which I am .... well, not quite "sorry".

    Mike

All this "Chelsea are the clear favourites" is an insult to Manchester United. Emma and her team are in for a fight against a team which have recently beaten them, and have a good record against them over the past year or two. Most would agree that City have a somewhat easier challenge, are less likely to lose, and more likely to get more than one goal and to keep a clean sheet

Clean sheets and goals. Manchester City have had it covered at both ends of the pitch this season with forward Khadija Shaw picking up the award for Women's Super League Player of the Season.

Shaw, 27, is the league's top scorer with 21 goals in 18 games for this season.

Unfortunately for Gareth Taylor's side she won't be involved today after being ruled out for the rest of the season in April with a broken foot.

How much will she be missed today?

What a year it has been for teenage Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating, who has become the youngest player to win the Women's Super League golden glove award.

Keating, 19, has kept nine clean sheets so far this season and has played in all 21 league games for title contenders City.

Manchester United's Mary Earps has kept seven clean sheets in 21 games, while Chelsea's Hannah Hampton has managed six in 10 matches.

Former England striker on BBC Two

I can’t wait. It’s been building, there have been so many turns and twists and roller coasters.

Chelsea had it in their hands then Manchester City had it in their hands. It all comes down to this one game, last game of the season.

Chelsea just need to get those three points and City maybe need to get three points and a few more goals. It’s so exciting for the neutral but then also for the fans of both teams as well.

With just goal difference in it, it’s a nervy time for both Chelsea and Man City fans.

Alexander is heading to Old Trafford to see if his team Chelsea can get the job done against Manchester United.

“We know it’s going to be a hard job to remain top come 5pm,” he tells BBC Newsbeat.

“It’s going to be nervous in the stands, we’re going to be checking the Man City score quite a lot.”

Man City fan Liv tells Newsbeat she’s confident of the title despite the “incredible” Emma Hayes leading Chelsea for the final time.

“They’ll be up for it. But we’re up for it as well.

“We’ve had an incredible season, Bunny Shaw has been on form but sadly she’s missing.

“I still [believe] we can do it, and bring that title home. Before the men do it hopefully on Sunday,” Liv says.
