  1. 'Lack of goals' a 'concern' for Leedspublished at 13:38 GMT

The concern has been the lack of goals. Away from home Leeds are more passive. There's certain things Leeds need to be working on. If plan A doesn't work then what's the next plan?

It’s simple, Leeds lose today. Daniel Farke has to go, it’s a shame because he’s done well, but we need to stay up.

A third Europa League victory from four matches on Thursday maintained Aston Villa's recovery from their longest winless start to a season since 1969. Their home record remains formidable, with 20 wins, seven draws and only one defeat – against Crystal Palace in August – from the past 28 fixtures at Villa Park.

Nonetheless, Villa's attacking deficiencies remain. Their tally of nine league goals is the fewest by an Unai Emery-led side after 10 top-flight matches of a season. They'd scored 17 times at this stage last season, and 26 the year before that.

Striker Ollie Watkins, left out of the latest England squad, is rightly under scrutiny for a return of one goal and no assists in 17 games since his winner away to Bournemouth in May. His faltering form is inextricably linked to a wider team issue, with Villa ranking near or at the bottom for a number of attacking metrics in the Premier League this season.

  5. Eagles rebuilding confidencepublished at 13:30 GMT

Crystal Palace v Brighton (14:00 GMT)

    Oliver GlasnerImage source, Getty Images

Crystal Palace initially struggled to regroup after their 19-match unbeaten run was ended away to Everton a month ago.

But after four games without a win, they have rebuilt confidence by beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and then Brentford in the league before turning on the style during Thursday's 3-1 European victory over Dutch side AZ.

An unrelenting fixture schedule has left little time for manager Oliver Glasner to work with the squad on the training ground and the Austrian admits his main focus is on rest and recovery. "We have to be careful in the training sessions they don't sprint too much because they have to sprint in the games," he said. "We have to prioritise."

Despite the limited time to train, Crystal Palace remain as well drilled as ever under Glasner.

They average less possession than any Premier League side bar Burnley, but their ruthless counter-attacking style continues to provide high-quality chances – the Eagles rank top for expected goals.

  6. M23 derbypublished at 13:28 GMT

Crystal Palace v Brighton (14:00 GMT)

The clubs may be 45 miles (72.4km) apart, but fans of Crystal Palace and Brighton say their rivalry is among the biggest in football.

Nicknamed the M23 derby because of the motorway that links the two, it has become an important fixture for fans.

It's a hostility born out of 1970s FA Cup drama and the bitter rivalry between former Tottenham Hotspur stars Terry Venables and Alan Mullery - and it shows no signs of abating.

I’m furious with that Leeds lineup. Aaronson is no threat, and Tanaka makes a big difference to our attack, too defensive. I expect us to lose, Farke to be sacked and he goes back to Norwich next week.

When you look at Daniel Farke at the start of the season there was rumours he was going to be replaced. It is mixed with fans, some of them feel he deserves more time. Some talk about the tactics, but the aim for Leeds is to stay up. Of course, a win today is going to be key.

    Historically, this fixture produces goals.

Eddie Howe speaking to Sky Sports about Anthony Gordon's fitness: "He wasn't close in the end. The scan revealed a very slight problem in his hip and it's a good opportunity for Harvey (Barnes) to come in.

"We have to deliver something different. That day (against West Ham) was painful for us. Hopefully, we have learnt a lot. Now we have to start picking up points."

  13. Im-press-ive Bournemouthpublished at 13:12 GMT

Aston Villa v Bournemouth (14:00 GMT)

Bournemouth have consistently been the most active pressers in the Premier League under head coach Andoni Iraola. Data analysts Opta measure the intensity of a team's press using a metric called passes per defensive action (PPDA). It divides the number of opposition passes outside of the pressing team's own defensive third by the number of defensive actions by the pressing team in those areas of the pitch. A lower figure indicates a higher level of pressing intensity and Bournemouth's PPDA of 9.9 is the lowest in the division, as it was last season.

Consequently, Bournemouth rank second only to Brighton for high turnovers – winning the ball in open play 40 metres or less from the opponent's goal. Iraola's side have also scored five goals from counter-attacks, the most in the division prior to the weekend.

Bournemouth's aggressive high press means opponents are launching long passes to avoid giving them a chance to win the ball in dangerous areas. Only Liverpool, who also press high, have faced more long passes this season, but Aston Villa puzzlingly opted not to adopt that tactic during their defeat at Anfield last weekend. A rethink may well be needed by Unai Emery if Villa are to extend their unbeaten league run against Bournemouth to six games.

    Brentford v Newcastle (14:00 GMT)

Newcastle have 12 points after 10 Premier League games this season (W3 D3 L4), their fewest at this stage of a season under Eddie Howe. It’s Howe’s fewest points after 10 games since 2017-18 as Bournemouth boss (7).

They are winless in their last eight away Premier League matches (D4 L4), failing to score more than once in any of those games and having a shot conversion rate of 4% across those eight winless games.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews: "We know what we need to do today in terms of the basics.

In today's match programme Forest boss Sean Dyche offers his condolences to those affected by the stabbing attack on a train which injured 11 people last weekend.

Some London-based Forest fans were on the train on their way back to the capital from the club's match against Manchester United.

"Some of our supporters were directly impacted, and the courage shown by those who helped others in such difficult circumstances has come to light," said Dyche.

"We are thankful to those people and send our best wishes to everyone concerned."

On the next page is an invitation for any Forest fans involved to message the club so they can provide any financial support for medical care if needed.

Which Newcastle United will turn up at the Gtech Community Stadium this afternoon?

Will it be the side who currently lie in sixth place in the Champions League standings, who have reached the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, who have won five home games in a row in all competitions?

Or will it be the travel-sick team who have failed to win an away league game since April?

Newcastle were well-beaten at West Ham last week and the visitors are really going to have to up their game on their latest trip to the capital to come away with something against Brentford today.

Brentford have already defeated Liverpool, Manchester United and Aston Villa at home this season and there are not many tougher away days than a trip to the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews certainly won’t be laying out the welcome mat.

“Newcastle have a lot of really talented individuals that we will need to stop, to be blunt, and put our imprint and our gameplan on them to make it the type of game we need it to be,” he writes in his programme notes.

Aaron Hickey returns for Brentford as manager Keith Andrews makes one change for the visit of Newcastle United.

The Scot makes his first appearance in over a month after recovering from a knee injury he suffered on international duty last month.

Brentford XI: Kelleher, Hickey, van den Berg, Collins, Kayode, Henderson, Yarmoliuk, Damsgaard, Schade, Thiago, Ouattara

Subs: Valdimarsson, Henry, Pinnock, Jensen, Nelson, Carvalho, Onyeka, Lewis-Potter, Janelt

    Brentford lineup

Newcastle forward Jacob Murphy comes into the starting line-up in place of the absent Anthony Gordon.

Gordon, who has been called up for England’s internationals against Serbia and Albania, misses out completely with a hip issue as head coach Eddie Howe makes one change from the team who defeated Athletic Club in the Champions League midweek.

Newcastle XI: Pope, Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Burn, Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Murphy, Woltemade, Barnes

Subs: Ramsdale, Hall, Schar, Lascelles, Krafth, Elanga, Willock, Ramsey, Miley.
