Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe on midfielder Sean Longstaff's recovery from injury: "I think he's feeling better. He's been doing a lot of attacking work and finishing with coaches. We have worked a lot on our midfielders scoring goals and it is paying off at the moment."

More from Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on the form of Elliot Anderson: "I think trust is a key word, when I first came here I was aware of him and his talents. He has worked on all aspects of his game, he has been really reliable for us and I think whatever position I have used him in or where I have tactically asked him to do things, he has done it really well.

"I am really pleased with his tactical understanding and his attacking play, he's got an assist in the previous games. There are goals and assists in the future I am sure."

Right, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe kicked off his news conference with an update on the availability of strikers Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson: "Alex didn’t train yesterday; we will see if he trains today. He wasn’t feeling 100%, I think you could see that. We knew on Friday that he was slightly under the weather.

"We haven’t seen Callum yet, we will see if he is available to train today, if not we will have him for Brentford."

  5. Will Beever-Jones get a call-up?published at 09:39 British Summer Time 14 May

    BBC Sport at Wembley

Sarina Wiegman will name her latest England squad then address the media at Wembley shortly.

There will be at least one change to the last squad with Aston Villa striker Rachel Daly no longer involved having announced her retirement in April.

That means there has been plenty of calls for Chelsea striker Aggie Beever-Jones to be selected.

She was called up late to the squad for the friendly victory over Austria in February and has had an impressive season for Chelsea.

Another name I would throw in the hat is Liverpool defender and former England youth international Grace Fisk. She has had a brilliant campaign but Wiegman is unlikely to throw up any surprises for these Euro 2025 qualifiers.

  6. Battle for Europepublished at 09:32 British Summer Time 14 May

Just a reminder, in case you needed it, that we have two games on Wednesday night to complete the midweek programme.

Brighton host Chelsea, while, as mentioned, Newcastle travel to Manchester United.

Both matches will have a bearing on which teams qualify for the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Newcastle and Chelsea are currently in sixth (Europa League) and seventh (Europa Conference League), with Manchester United potentially missing out on Europe, as things stand.

Although, should Erik ten Hag's side finish in eighth, where they currently are, they could sneak into the Europa League by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

  7. Man Utd scrap player awards dinnerpublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 14 May

    BBC Sport

Manchester United have scrapped plans to host a player of the year award next week.

The awards had been planned for 20 May.

However, manager Erik ten Hag and the rest of the football leadership at Old Trafford do not want any distractions ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City on 25 May.

Club sources say winners will be selected for the men's and women's team and the academy as normal but there will be no dinner, which the club has said in the past raises "vital funds" for United's Foundation.

While it has been a difficult season for United's men's team, on Sunday their women's team won the FA Cup for the first time.

United's academy side finished top of Premier League North, winning 20 out of its 24 matches. They play Chelsea for the national title this evening.

Love Jurgen to bits but our defence has been a mess for two years now and him and his coaching staff haven’t fixed it. There’s a reason City have Rodri and Arsenal have Rice in their midfields…we concede soft goals time and again, which has ultimately cost us league titles and Champions League trophies. Shift Trent Alexander-Arnold out of right-back, buy a top young centre-back and defensive midfielder this summer please! I’d rather see us win ugly a few more times under Arne Slot, than have this naive, attack-minded approach.

  12. No touchline ban for Klopppublished at 09:14 British Summer Time 14 May

    Aston Villa 3-3 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp, of course, has just one game remaining in charge of Liverpool - at home to Wolves on Sunday.

There was a nightmare scenario that the German boss could have been forced to serve a touchline ban at Anfield for his final game, should he have picked up a yellow card at Villa Park.

His side certainly gave Klopp enough to get upset about as they relinquished a two-goal lead in the closing stages, but thankfully the Reds manager was able to keep a lid on his frustrations.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his side showed "top character" during their 3-3 draw against Aston Villa.

The German was in the rare position of his side having nothing to play for - they were guaranteed to finish third regardless of the result - but was pleased with the effort of his players.

    Aston Villa 3-3 Liverpool

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Former Aston Villa midfielder Ian Taylor told BBC Radio 5 Live "we are pinching ourselves" as Unai Emery's side closed in on Champions League qualification with a point at home to Liverpool on Monday night: "What a game, we showed some amazing character last night. Many teams would have crumbled in front of Liverpool, but we didn't and we kept going and got our rewards in the end.

"When you look at the game as a whole, we had more of a chance than Liverpool did. Liverpool were a bit more clinical, but we had our shooting boots on last night and we could have won that game.

"We are pinching ourselves because 18 months ago you would have never had seen this coming. We have an amazing prize ahead of us, that could set us up for the future.

"Since Unai Emery came in, the turnaround has been incredible. For me Emery is one of the top managers in the world."

"Good news on the horizon, lets hope so. Up the Villa! Forever Villa," he said, before taking his seat in the stands.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery told Sky Sports that Champions League qualification remains in their hands, despite dropping two points in Monday's thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Liverpool: "We are very proud of the season. It is not enough at the moment to get fourth. We are going to prepare for the match on Sunday against Crystal Palace. Even after we scored the two goals we had chances. We are celebrating the season here with our supporters in Villa Park.

"We are only thinking of us. We will prepare for our match on Sunday - everything is in our hands.

"Jhon Duran is a special player. We have to try to help him. He is a good guy and he needs a team behind him. He is getting our demands better. He was very clinical and today was important for him.

"We are celebrating with our supporters. We have to push it and keep working and be consistent. We were consistent all the season. The team was being mature and always consistent in our mind. Inch by inch, we did it."
