After the home humbling by Blackburn, Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside:

"A very disappointing day for us. After 20 minutes we had some chances to score and then we made one mistake in our defence which they punished with a goal.

"At half-time we tried to change things and they then punished us with two quick goals. In the end I must congratulate Blackburn on a deserved win.

"We had a lot of problems before this game. We missed some players and had a virus in our dressing room, so this is maybe a key question of energy and intensity.

"We must analyse this game, keep going and keep working."

Speaking after Abdul Fatawu's superb strike ensured a 1-0 win at Charlton, Leicester head coach Marti Cifuentes told BBC Sport England:

"It was a fantastic goal that summarises really clearly what Abdul means for us, extreme quality especially in the last third.

"We played against a team that was very aggressive in the high press, very physical, it can create some frustration because everything is happening around our box.

"For me today the most important thing is that we took a step forward in the identity and culture that I want to build at the club.

"I saw a team that, despite there is 100 things we can do better, and that's on me, I saw a team that cared, that wanted to work hard for each other, we had to defend low and make a run with each other for it.

"It was far from perfect. But what we can learn from this one is stronger than just having a fantastic game and winning 4-0."

Speaking after the narrow 1-0 home defeat to Leicester, Charlton head coach Nathan Jones told BBC Radio London:

"It's a one in a million strike to win the game for them but we had so many opportunities to have got something from the game and I think if we'd scored we'd have gone on to win the game.

"But that's the lesson. It's hard to be disappointed with the level of performance because if that was 5-1 it would probably have been a fair result.

"I thought we were totally dominant, it was just they demonstrated that ounce of quality that we didn't and that's why we're sitting here with no points.

"We've created enough chances to win three games and then the disallowed goal is an absolute travesty, I don't get it.

"I'm disappointed but I'm so proud because if that's our level then I'm excited about what we can achieve this season."

    FT: Norwich 1-2 Middlesbrough

    Marc Webber
BBC Final Score commentator at Carrow Road

The Middlesbrough players walked over to the 1,000 travelling fans to celebrate a result which keeps them second.

And it will feel a satisfying victory for them. They set the game alight and held on when that usual potential trap door of playing a side that went a man down reared its head.

Norwich’s Captain America Josh Sargent again came to the rescue for the home side - scoring his fourth goal in four games. It gave some hope of a home comeback, which eventually dissipated in eight minutes of injury time.

But perhaps goals like that only go to highlight Sargent’s transfer potential, as well as Norwich’s reliance on him.

    FT: Preston 1-0 Ipswich

    Gavin Ramjaun
    BBC Final Score at Deepdale

Superb win this for Preston, against one of the much favoured teams for promotion.

Yes Ipswich have lost key men in the summer - but they still play with a neat verve on the counter attack.

The quality is there which is why this is such a big victory for Preston who really had to hang on at the end.

Given Ipswich recouped good money for Delap and Hutchinson, you’d expect a couple of strong names coming in should stop the rot.

    FT: West Brom 1-1 Portsmouth

    John Bennett
BBC Final Score reporter at The Hawthorns

They say "who’d be a manager?" But what about "who’d be a manager’s chair?!" West Brom boss Ryan Mason kicked out at his seat in the dug out second-half, furious at two decisions by the referee.

First not to give a penalty, then not to send off the Portsmouth defender Regan Poole.

Mason got a red card for his reaction and had to watch the final stages from the stands. From my seat it certainly looked as though West Brom had a right to be upset, especially when it came to Poole, who appeared to be holding Aune Heggebo’s shirt when he was through on goal.

As for the manager’s chair, I’m looking down at it now and it appears to be ok. No fitness test needed.

  8. 'Huge three points'published at 17:11 British Summer Time

    Huge three points.

When that final whistle went you saw the Boro players on the floor. Fair play to Norwich because they got the goal and they made it tough.

There is something in this team, a real resilience, a real belief. Do not underestimate what a result that is.

Those two goals in three minutes just before the break were enough for Boro to extend their winning start to three games.

The last time they did this they won the title in 1995.

Norwich spurned a glut of chances and had Jacob Wright sent-off for a nasty lunge on Aidan Morris, but though Josh Sargent dinked his fourth of the season late-on, they have suffered back-to-back home defeats for the first time since 2023.

    Coventry 7-1 QPR

The referee has put QPR out of their misery as it's all over at Coventry's CBS Arena and what a day for Sky Blues fans.

Coventry maintain their unbeaten start to the season after hammering QPR 7-1 on the day they completed the purchase of its home stadium. The Coventry Building Society Arena.

Braces from Haji Wright, Jack Rudoni and Victor Torp and one from Brandon Thomas-Asante piled on the misery from the off for the Hoops. The Sky Blues are up to third and made it back-to-back wins.

Richard Kone did pull a goal back for QPR, his first for the club, but this is QPR's worst start to a season in seven years as they continue their search for their first win of the season and slip into the bottom three.

Plenty to ponder for Kieran McKenna.

However, they kept going and Barry Bannan got them back in it in his 450th appearance for the club beofre Bailey Cadamarteri gave them a deserved share of the points.
