    Liverpool v Lille (20:00 GMT)

It may come as a shock to you to not see Mohamed Salah's name at the top of the Champions League scoring chart. The Egyptian has only struck twice in Europe this term with Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski leading the way with seven.

Salah has managed to register four assists - putting him joint-top of the chart alongside Atalata's Charles De Ketelaere and Atletico Madrid's Marcos Llorente.

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on the Football Daily podcast

When I compare Liverpool to their main rivals at the moment, in Arsenal, Liverpool are relentless and there is a real belief in that squad that they are going to win.

I think Liverpool will go on to win the Premier League title but I do think there is a still a blip to come for them this season.

  6. Bottom half of the tablepublished at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

FT: Monaco 1-0 Aston Villa, Atalanta 5-0 Sturm Graz

Sturm Graz's hammering means they can't make the knockout phase, joining RB Leipzig, Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys in suffering an early exit.

FT: Monaco 1-0 Aston Villa, Atalanta 5-0 Sturm Graz

Atalanta move up to third after their 5-0 win over Sturm Graz, but Aston Villa are probably going to slip out of the top eight with that 1-0 loss to Monaco.

Don’t forget Monaco beat Barcelona this season so they’re not a bad team! Usual recent issues for Villa, can’t take chances and weak defensively.

  9. 'Disappointing for Aston Villa'published at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    FT: Monaco 1-0 Aston Villa

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I have some sympathy for Villa because they tried everything they could after that goal and they looked really good at one point.

But that edge and energy that we associate with them, it just disappeared. As the game went on, it looked less and less likely that they would get back into it.

A real disappointment for Aston Villa. The next game, they win the next game against Celtic, they have still got a chance of going through in the top eight.

A frankly awful performance from Villa in the context of the competition, and one that we have seen far too much of this season. Unable to go from one game to the next with any consistency. Passive in key games. Zero creativity against teams that sit back.

  11. Who is Lille wonderkid Bouaddi?published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool v Lille (20:00 GMT)

What about Lille then? The French side sit third in Ligue 1 but haven't tasted defeat in four months. Striker Jonathan David has struck four times in six games but the player on everyone's lips is wonderkid Ayyoub Bouaddi.

On the day of his 17th birthday, Bouaddi bossed a Real Madrid midfield containing Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga as Lille recorded a famous victory.

We'll have to wait for a glimpse of him tonight as he starts on the Lille bench but have a read our story on the rise of Bouaddi here.

The Champions League couldn't really have gone much better for Liverpool so far. Arne Slot's side have conceded just one goal and beaten Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and AC Milan. With a last 16 spot almost nailed down, who can stop the Reds?

Time for some build-up for Liverpool's home tie against Lille now. Remember, a point secures the Reds' spot in the knockout round.

    Monaco 1-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa lose for the second time in their seven Champions League games.

The impressive defender Wilfried Singo is the matchwinner scoring early in the first half. Villa will feel they should have got at least a point.

Villa entertain Celtic next Wednesday, and Unai Emery's side will need to get a win to have any chance of making it straight through into the last 16.

  15. Atalanta move up to third with win which eliminates Sturm Grazpublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    FT: Atalanta 5-0 Sturm Graz

A very comfortable home win for Atalanta against Sturm Graz.

Gian Piero Gasperini will be very pleased with his side's performance tonight.

The result means Atalanta move up to third in the Champions League league table behind Liverpool and Barcelona while Sturm Graz cannot make the knockout phase with just three points to their name.

Tbf to Slot, he is resting five first teamers against the team that started the evening eighth. He will still want to win the game and people will say he has rested too many if we lose.
