For all of Salah's greatness ,he does have periods in the season where he is badly out of form. Remember when he fell out with Klopp last season , when he was being regularly substituted? But overall the numbers don't lie.

And he's just added another goal to the tally!

That was Mo Salah's 50th European goal for Liverpool and what a finish it was for the landmark.

  3. 'Jones' pass kills the Lille press'published at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

    Stephen Warnock
Former Premier League defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brilliant from Liverpool in the press and the way they get the ball back. Lille players are flying forward because they think they have good possession but they are caught out and Mohamed Salah makes no mistake.

That's what I was saying about Curtis Jones. The way he plays the pass kills the Lille press and that finish is clinical as we have seen from Salah time and time again this season.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 1-0 Lille

Lille defender Mandi has been handed a yellow card for his protests after the goal.

GOAL - Liverpool 1-0 Lillepublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Mohamed Salah (34 mins)

    One chance = one goal!

Lille aren't happy as they think Kostas Tsimikas fouls Jonathan David but it looks a good tackle. Curtis Jones then slips in the sprinting Mo Salah and he slots into the bottom corner with his left foot. Textbook.

  6. 'Better from Jones'published at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Lille

    Stephen Warnock
Former Premier League defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Salah had to head it. There is no way he can lift his foot to the position where it is. He has to go for it with his head.

But that was better from Curtis Jones, passing it forward with more purpose and then that was a great ball across by Luis Diaz.

Pass completion stats are all very well, but it depends what you're trying to do with those passes. Salah on 57% sounds terrible but he's often playing into areas that create goalscoring opportunities, so of course they won't all come off.

Luis Diaz races down the left and puts a beautiful cross with his left foot. Mo Salah can't quite sort his feet out and ends up kneeing it wide. Should he have tried to head it?

  11. Postpublished at 20:29 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Lille

Liverpool are probing once again but it's all in front of Lille, who are enjoying a relatively comfortable evening so far.

  12. Calamity leads to Benfica goalpublished at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Benfica 2-1 Barcelona

    Keystone Cops comes to mind.

Wojciech Szczesny clatters into Alejandro Balde, volleying his team-mate instead of the ball. The path is left open for Vangelis Pavlidis to run through and score his second goal of the evening.

    What a calamity.

  13. 'Salah has been half a yard off'published at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Lille

    Stephen Warnock
Former Premier League defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Mohamed Salah has just been half a yard off. There have been a few times where Liverpool haven't committed to the final pass and they have been a little bit safe and it has allowed Lille to get back into position.

This is why I love Nunez. His work rate and passion is unbelievable. Running back as if he's the last defender. Love it.

A game where Liverpool would arguably be ahead if Salah wasn't on the pitch. Every pass of his has been awful.

Mo Salah has a 57% pass accuracy so far.

  17. De Jong puts PSV in frontpublished at 20:24 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Red Star Belgrade 0-1 PSV Eindhoven

Luuk de Jong rises highest to head home from a Joey Veerman corner.

He was completely free in the box. Poor marking from the home side.

  18. Postpublished at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Gabriel Gudmundsson is a real threat down the left for Lille. He brings the ball out again and Darwin Nunez brings him down acting as a makeshift right-back.

  19. 'Learning night for Bradley'published at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Lille

    Stephen Warnock
Former Premier League defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a little bit of a learning night for Conor Bradley. He has been very good but he is going to have tough nights as well.

  20. Postpublished at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Mo Salah looks to add to his four Champions League assists this season by threading a ball through for Luis Diaz but it's just slightly overhit. Surprised he didn't pull the trigger there.
