According to the article, the Stamford Bridge outfit held talks with Juve over the possible sale of defender Renato Veiga and could now use that line of communication to sound out the Italian club on a move for their leading goalscorer.

    Tuesday's newspapers

    The Daily Telegraph

The Telegraph leads with a report on a new bid from West Ham for Aston Villa's Colombia striker Jhon Duran.

West Ham offered £32m for the 21-year-old in the summer and are reported to have increased their bid to £57m, but this is still well below Villa's reported £80m valuation.

It is reported that Villa have rejected this latest bid as they do not want to sell the striker in January, and are angry with the timing of the offer, coming on the eve of an important Champions League tie in Monaco.

Alejandro Garnacho's agent was an interested spectator at Stamford Bridge last night for Chelsea's Premier League victory over Wolves.

Chelsea are one of a number of clubs linked with Garnacho this month but so far Manchester United have not received an offer they would be willing to sell the Argentina winger for.

Italian title contenders Napoli seem the most likely to hit the sum in excess of £50m United want.

The Old Trafford outfit say they are not encouraging bids for the 20-year-old. However, Garnacho does not fit Ruben Amorim's system and is one of the players United could actually use to generate some finance to boost their ailing squad.

While Marcus Rashford's future may up in the air, the possible destination of Manchester United team-mate Alejandro Garnacho is also in the news.

A story on the 20-year-old Argentina winger leads today's BBC Sport gossip page, with Italian website Corriere dello Sport, external reporting that Serie A leaders Napoli are hoping to reach an agreement on a £50m deal to sign him.

However, Garnacho could have another option a little closer to his current home...

  6. Rashford not given up on playing for Man Utd againpublished at 08:14 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Marcus Rashford has not abandoned all hope of playing for Manchester United again.

Rashford has not featured for United since being substituted in the Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen on 12 December, after which his training performances were called into question by head coach Ruben Amorim.

The 27-year-old has been on the bench once in the intervening period, when he was an unused substitute in the 3-0 home defeat by Newcastle on 30 December.

Sources close to the player have stressed Rashford wants to play for United and has no significant issue with Amorim and would play if he was called upon.

Rashford has been linked with a number of European clubs and the likelihood remains he will leave on loan before the current transfer window closes at the beginning of February.

It is not known how often Rashford has trained with the first team since his exile from Amorim's matchday squad began.

  7. Forest defender Murillo agrees new four-year dealpublished at 08:09 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo has agreed in principle a new four-year contract which would keep him at the City Ground until 2029.

The 22-year-old joined Forest from Brazilian club Corinthians in August 2023 on a five-year deal for a reported fee of about £15m.

He has become a key player for the club and been offered a new contract.

Forest are third in the Premier League, level on points with second-placed Arsenal, and six points behind leaders Liverpool.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Murillo, with Real Madrid also reportedly interested.

Murillo received his first call-up to the Brazil squad for their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign in November, but was an unused substitute in draws against Venezuela and Uruguay.

Chelsea are set to sign French defender Mamadou Sarr from partner club Strasbourg.

The £11.9m deal for the 19-year-old central defender, who has played just 14 times for Strasbourg, is with a view for him to join in the summer.

It represents the first permanent transfer into Stamford Bridge from Strasbourg, clubs owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital under the BlueCo umbrella.

Ligue 1 Strasbourg will bank a quick £3.4m profit having only signed Sarr from Lyon for £8.5m in the summer.

The pre-agreed nature of the transfer avoids forcing Strasbourg to drop any of their three loanees, midfielder Andrey Santos, left-back Caleb Wiley or goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, because of limits set by Fifa's rules.

Chelsea have also lined up a deal for Kazakh 16-year-old Dastan Satpaev, who completed a successful trial at Cobham Training Centre in recent weeks.

The striker is expected to join Chelsea's academy teams from FC Kairat.

  9. Man City complete £33.6m signing of Lens centre-back Khusanovpublished at 08:01 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

Manchester City have signed Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov on a four-and-a-half-year contract until 2029.

Club sources say the fee for the 20-year-old is £33.6m plus add-ons.

French side Lens only paid £84,000 for Khusanov from Belarusian club Energetik-BGU 18 months ago.

However, he has developed rapidly and made 16 appearances for the Ligue 1 side this season, scoring his first goal for the club in a French Cup tie with Paris St-Germain in December.

Khusanov has 18 caps for Uzbekistan and will become the first player from the country to play in the Premier League.

One other piece of Wolves news, boss Vitor Pereira says midfielder Mario Lemina will not play for the club while the January transfer window is open.

Lemina, 31, wants to leave the club and asked not to play in their 3-0 defeat at Newcastle last Wednesday.

The Gabon international has since apologised to Pereira and the rest of the playing squad and said he is "ready to do his best for the team" until a solution is found.

Wolves - 17th in the Premier League - want £5m for Lemina, who joined from Southampton two years ago.

Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab have asked to sign him on a free transfer, but Wolves are not willing to entertain that.

Chelsea 3-1 Wolves: Vitor Pereira - 'Wolves need to be consistent for 90 minutes'

After seven points in his first three games, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has now overseen three successive defeats and his side remain firmly in a relegation battle.

One area of real concern will be defensive set-pieces, with Wolves now conceding a league-high 19 this season - seven more than any other side.

"We need to be consistent for 95 minutes. Today the team tried to do their best but not in the way that we should," said Pereira.

"We need to improve set-pieces for sure. We need to improve the moments that we must have confidence to switch the play, switch the ball. We need to improve our tactical maturity."

On Matheus Cunha's decision to go straight down the tunnel at full-time, without acknowledging the away fans, Pereira said that was "something that cannot happen". He added: "He's a captain. He can be frustrated as he wants to win, but everyone in the dressing room wants to win. I don't like his body language. I want a captain to try to help the team with running, suffering and fighting together. But I understand it now - next time I won't understand."

  15. 'After five games without a win, it's not easy'published at 07:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Chelsea 3-1 Wolves

More from Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca: "Overall I think we deserved to win the game...second half we started well and we score. After five games without a win, it's not easy, so it was important to win the game."

On the decision to recall centre-back Trevoh Chalobah from a loan spell at Crystal Palace: "We know that he was going to help us. We really trust Trev and the reason why he is back is for this reason."

Chelsea got back to winning ways thanks to second-half goals from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke, which spared the blushes of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after his error allowed Matt Doherty to equalise for Wolves following a corner in first-half stoppage time.

Sanchez had moved a few yards off his line, which was spotted by Matheus Cunha, and the Brazilian swung a delicious delivery goalbound which the Spaniard attempted to claim rather than punch clear.

The error was keeper Sanchez's fourth that has led to a goal this season - only Ipswich's Arijanet Muric (five) has made more in the Premier League - and will lead to more questions around his selection with just one home clean sheet this campaign.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca defended Sanchez, telling Sky Sports: "You said it was the fourth mistake [leading to a goal]? OK, and how many times did he save us? More than four. So no problem. It happens. Mistakes happen to him, the strikers, the midfielders. He is doing well."

    Chelsea 3-1 Wolves

A dominant second-half display helped Chelsea beat Wolves to end their five-game winless run in the Premier League and move into the top four.

Having seen Tosin Adarabioyo's opener cancelled out by Matt Doherty, two goals in five second-half minutes from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke carried the hosts to victory at Stamford Bridge.

The victory moves Chelsea fourth, two points clear of Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Wolves, who have now conceded a league-high 51 goals, remain 17th and Vitor Pereira's side are only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.
