Beth England's stoppage-time header helped Tottenham snatch a point in the Women's Super League after a battling draw at Aston Villa.

The visitors had led for much of the game through Eveliina Summanen's first-half penalty, only for substitute Adriana Leon to level with 12 minutes left at Villa Park.

Villa captain Rachel Daly thought she had won three points for Robert de Pauw's side when heading in Lucy Parker's cross in the 88th minute.

But in the sixth minute of added time, England scored a late header of her own, turning in Amanda Nilden's cross to level in dramatic fashion.

Tottenham remain unbeaten in the league, having beaten Crystal Palace 4-0 a week ago.

A draw for Villa gives them their first point of the season under new boss de Pauw.

Defending champions Chelsea are top of the Women's Super League after beating Crystal Palace 7-0 in the second round of the top-flight.

Palace, who were promoted this summer, put in a sparkling defensive effort in the first half. They blocked multiple shots and goalkeeper Shae Yanez made some fantastic saves to limit Chelsea to 1-0 at the break.

But the second half saw the defensive dam burst with Guro Reiten among the scorers to propel the Blues to a thumping win.

    Full WSL round-up:

    • Crystal Palace 0-7 Chelsea
    • Man City 1-0 Brighton
    • Everton 0-1 Man Utd
    • West Ham 1-1 Liverpool
    • Leicester City 0-1 Arsenal
    • Aston Villa 2-2 Tottenham

At this moment in time Phil Foden is ahead of Cole Palmer. Yes, he is a better player. He has got more. Can we see Palmer come into that aura? Yes. He just isn't at Foden's level.

Could he be soon? Yes. But Foden is just exceptional. He can do things that others can't.

Victoria Gaskin, Wirral: Hi Phil. Is it now increasingly clear Pep Guardiola made a mistake in allowing Cole Palmer to leave Manchester City for Chelsea.

Phil: I wondered when we’d get this one – and it is a question plenty are asking when they see Palmer performing so brilliantly.

On the surface it does look like a mistake because Palmer is performing in a way that would get him into any side in the country and £40m looks like a bargain.

The context here is that Guardiola has a track record of not keeping players who want to leave his club. The perfect scenario would have been to keep Palmer but Guardiola made it very clear, in his own words, that Palmer wanted to leave for two seasons so eventually he went.

Guardiola moves on from these situations very quickly. I'm not sure he does regrets – although I suppose City might now wish they had asked for more than £40m.

Chelsea, for their part, have been criticised and mocked for selling Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne, who developed into two of the greatest players of the Premier League era at Liverpool and Manchester City.

They might think getting Palmer for only £40m is their turn to get an incredible bargain.

In the midst of the soggy nightmare for Manchester United at Old Trafford, Tottenham put together a commanding performance that Erik ten Hag's side failed to get to grips with.

Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke were on target for Spurs but the stats indicate Ange Postecoglou’s side should have had more.

According to Opta, Tottenham registered 4.67 expected goals against United - the most they've ever had in a single Premier League game on record. It was also the highest xG United have ever conceded at home in a top-flight game.

Meanwhile, Johnson’s opener after 155 seconds was Spurs' earliest goal at Old Trafford in the league since September 2012 (113 secs), while Bruno Fernandes' first red card of his United career came on what was his 242nd appearance for the club.

Michael, Lincolnshire: Hi Phil, after all the trash talk about Ange Postecoglou being under pressure, do you think Spurs are beginning to see the real shoots of his style?

Phil: Hello, Michael. I think Postecoglou’s style has always been in evidence. Very positive, pace out wide, high defensive line. I felt it had been rumbled slightly last season and has been vulnerable on occasion this season but it is highly entertaining and when it works, as it did yesterday, it is wonderful to watch.

There were some questions being asked about Postecoglou and his style after losing at home to Arsenal in the north London derby but four straight wins have provided a strong answer.

This was especially true at Old Trafford, which was a Spurs masterclass from first to last. It may not work all the time but watching Spurs under Postecoglou will never be dull and plenty of fans are right on board with that after the stodge served up to them by Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The manager has been under a lot of pressure, for what he brought to the football club and the last few weeks it has sort of swung against him. They have reacted since that North London derby, got some results, positivity. They will be delighted now, it just gives them a bit of time.

They have a difficult game next week but let's enjoy it. They went to Manchester United, they had a good win, they have controlled the first half, tonnes and tonnes of chances, a way of playing that is exciting.

The Spurs fans are just desperate for success, they have had such a bad period for a long time. Let's just get behind him [Ange Postecoglou]. There's going to be ups and downs, they aren't just going to close the gap are they? But to do what he is doing in the style that he is it is going to take time.

Anon: Who impressed you and other members of the media from Spurs performance yesterday? Their good game seems to have been lost in the noise and chaos for Man Utd’s poor game, which feels unjust.

Phil: I’ll speak for myself on this one. First of all, I was just hugely impressed with Spurs in all aspects of the game. It was an outstanding, complete, performance.

On specific players, I absolutely love Micky van de Ven. He is not just an outstanding defender but he is exciting to watch as well.

He has an incredible turn of pace and real ambition going forward, as we saw from that thrilling run from inside his own half to set up Brennan Johnson’s goal.

There was a moment in the first half when Alejandro Garnacho had the run on him but he just turned on the after-burners, ate up the yards, and cruised past him to win the ball. Superb.

I was also very impressed with Dominic Solanke, who thoroughly deserved his goal and might have had more.

Solanke worked so hard for the team, was strong on the ball to ensure attacks could revolve around him, then scored a poacher’s effort from a corner. He must have impressed watching England interim manager Lee Carsley.

James Maddison also did his England chances no harm.

It was a team performance, though, and everyone impressed.

Has it been an ideal week [for Manchester City]? No. The game last week was a crazy game wasn't it? Against Arsenal I wish we could have seen a true fluid game, end-to-end I think it would have been brilliant.

Rodri is a huge miss to any football club. The way he has gone about his business, his protection, that link to get everything started. Arsenal are going really well, that type of win against Leicester is the one that sort of gives you the belief doesn't it.

Phil McNulty Q&A: 'Beware doubting Man City'published at 13:11 British Summer Time 30 September

#bbcfootball, via WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

Adam: Hi again Phil surely now the tide is turning against Manchester City winning the league once more and that they can no longer be viewed as the favourite?

Phil: Hello, Adam. Manchester City are still title favourites in my opinion. It is never wise to back against them. What is undoubtedly true is that losing Rodri, the best player in the world in his position, is a huge setback, especially with Kevin De Bruyne also injured.

Don’t forget, though, that City won the title last season when both De Bruyne and Erling Haaland had lengthy spells on the sidelines so never under-estimate their ability to overcome these setbacks.

I do think, however, that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool (the other two I expect to be in the title shake-up) to get real encouragement from City losing someone like Rodri for an entire season,

    Beware doubting them, though.

It took Pep Guardiola about 20 seconds to signal that he was bored with talking about Manchester City's absent midfielder Rodri.

He took his seat in the media conference room at St James' Park less than half an hour after his side's 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

The first question? Does that game show how pivotal Rodri is to your team?

Guardiola drew breath and replied: "We played really good with Kova [Mateo Kovacic], Bernardo [Silva] and Rico [Lewis].”

Four of the seven questions posed to Guardiola centred around Rodri in some form.

And that was after a similar line of questioning immediately after the televised early kick-off on Saturday, with Guardiola telling BBC Match of the Day that his midfield were "magnificent".

Eventually, Guardiola directly addressed the issue at hand.

"I know you are going to ask me all the time," he said. "We are going to miss Rodri for his physicality and presence. But he is not there.

"I would love Rodri, Oscar Bobb, Kevin [de Bruyne] and [Nathan] Ake to be here. But it is what it is. Sometimes it happens and we have to adapt."

  13. 'Ridiculous decision'published at 12:57 British Summer Time 30 September

    Man Utd 0-3 Tottenham

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City and Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Ridiculous decision. Really bad. I don't get it. I understand what he sees. We're obsessed with that straight foot, that straight tackle under the shin pad with that impact, that leg breaker. I understand the difference, I had a nasty side to me when I wanted to make certain tackles so I believe I know when it should be a red card and when it shouldn't.

There was no force when you hear what he said. He did slip into it and then he has gone to clip him. He has not gone to straight leg into his shin pas with a stud type tackle. There's just a flick on, there's not that much contact and for that point they say there wasn't enough in it for the decision to be overturned.

i think the referee should have gone to the screen and had a little look and realised there was a slip. Then looked at that motion, could it have been a yellow card? For me because he has gone to slick to stop the attack that is the decision.

It is a tough one because he is slipping, I know the intent was to stop a counterattack and trip him up but obviously he slips and his leg gets high, catches him on the knee. It's hard to argue against it.

I think it is unfortunate because he slipping as he is trying to make the motion, that's why he ends up catching [James] Maddison on the knee.

Phil McNulty Q&A: 'The manager’s hit rate on signings has been very poor'published at 12:43 British Summer Time 30 September

#bbcfootball, via WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

NMP, Slough: Hi Phil. Do you see United's recruitment policy of signing rejects from CL teams as being a potential source of problems. Bayern and PSG let these guys go for a reason. Other big teams sign players on an upward career trajectory. Should United try the same?

Phil: Good morning. Interestingly enough, this was a conversation we were having after the game last night and the general opinion was that if clubs such as Bayern Munich, in particular, are willing to see players to clubs that might possibly regard as competitors, then it is very much a case of “buyer beware.”

We saw it in 2015 when United, under Louis van Gaal, signed Bayern legend, World Cup winner and truly world-class player Bastian Schweinsteger. He was only 30 but it soon became clear his best days were very far behind him and he was suffering injuries.

It might be too early to say with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui but they do not look game-changers for a price of around £60m.

Ten Hag has signed players you would think were on an upward trajectory in the shape of Mason Mount, Antony, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee but they have yet to come off either, although I actually think Hojlund has genuine potential.

The manager’s hit rate on signings has been very poor. You succeed or fail by your recruitment and Ten Hag has, so far, failed on that measure.

  16. Liverpool go top with win at Wolvespublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 30 September

With Manchester City dropping points at Newcastle in the early kick off on Saturday, Liverpool knew a win against a struggling Wolves would take them to the top of the Premier League.

It wasn't the prettiest of performances, but five wins from six league games has given new boss Arne Slot a dream start to his life on Merseyside.

Ibrahima Konate's first top-flight goal had given the visitors the lead at Molineux, before Rayan Ait-Nouri equalised for Wolves following a mix-up between Konate and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

The Reds restored their lead on 61 minutes, Mohamed Salah converting a penalty after Nelson Semedo pushed Diogo Jota in the box.

Slot said after the victory that being ahead of the rest so early on in the season "doesn't say much", but apart from that blip against Nottingham Forest at Anfield, Liverpool are now one point clear of rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.

As for Wolves, five defeats and one draw leaves them bottom of the table, level one one point with Southampton, who face Bournemouth tonight.

  17. 'The spotlight isn't on Liverpool'published at 12:29 British Summer Time 30 September

    Wolves 1-2 Liverpool

    Nigel Reo-Coker

Liverpool are in the best place right now. If you listen to everyone they are talking about Arsenal or Man City. Liverpool are going about their business very quietly and are in a perfect place.

The spotlight isn't on them. it's on Arsenal Man City and this rivalry that is being created. Liverpool for me are in the most perfect place they could be.

  18. Konate has 'all tools to be a top class centre-half'published at 12:22 British Summer Time 30 September

    Wolves 1-2 Liverpool

Can any other Liverpool player wrestle the man of the match award away from midfielder Ryan Gravenberch? Ibrahima Konate gave it a good go against Wolves, but ultimately, he had to watch on as Gary Neville picked his Dutch team-mate instead.

Former Premier League defender Micah Richards believes centre-back Konate has "so much potential" and believes the Frenchman could become "top class".

Speaking on Match of the Day, Richards said: "He's got all the tools to be a top class centre half. It's always been Van Dijk and another, Quansah started the season and Arne Slot brought Konate on at half-time.

"His positioning has got a lot better, you see the size of him, the frame of him. In the air he's really good."

Speaking about Konate's goal against Wolves, Richards said: "This is what he can do, when he's given the licence to go forward and win the header."

But, he does believe there are some improvements that the 25-year-old needs to make before fulfilling his potential, such as "communication" and "being the leader at the back".

"For Wolves' goal there was a communication error between Alisson and him, just kick it out don't worry about it - safety should always be first," said Richards.

    Man Utd 0-3 Tottenham

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City and Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

What's worrying now is some of the players are saying 'lack of effort, lack of desire, we're second best to everything'. That is when it starts to spin around, that does the manager no favours whatsoever.

People are looking around and getting quite selfish opinions out there. They are not a collective, that's for certain. As a group of players you don't feel like someone who is backing the other person up, it is just about who can get in the team.

That is not a team. They have been put together and they still don't have an understanding over how they have got to work for each other.
