Liverpool is one of the great football clubs. Trent Alexander-Arnold has helped make Liverpool a great team, but this does not necessarily make him a great player. He is an important contributor to the performance of the Liverpool team. Liverpool will survive without Trent, but can Trent survive without Liverpool? Football is a team sport and Trent needs the right team, and the right supporters behind him.

  2. What did Pickford do?published at 10:57 British Summer Time 3 April

    Liverpool 1-0 Everton

That was one of the talking points we have been trying to get to, Tom.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford raced out of his goal with Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez bearing down on him.

Nunez beat England's number one to the ball, which resulted in Pickford clattering the Uruguay striker.

The referee had already blown up, stopping play for a foul just prior to this incident.

No action was taken on Pickford and instead Nunez was booked for rolling back onto the pitch while awaiting treatment.

I’m surprised no one has talked about Nunez’s reaction after the Pickford challenge. The way he actively flung himself back on the pitch to waste time, and then gestured at the officials which was clearly seen to the television audience was disgraceful. Players need to show more respect to the officials and show a good example to the watching audience.

  4. 'I think it is quite an OK season for referees in England'published at 10:44 British Summer Time 3 April

Fulham v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on what he has made of the standard of refereeing and VAR in the Premier League: "I think everywhere around the world mistakes are being made. This is something in the league where I came from. We are all aiming for a league without mistakes. I am aiming for a season without me making one mistake in the line-ups I make, but unfortunately this will probably never happen - not with me and not with referee decisions.

"We also have to accept, which is sometimes very hard - as you noticed at the away game with Everton with me as well. I got the idea that David Moyes wasn't happy as well after the game but he was a bit smarter than me and he went inside instead of going onto the pitch - probably experience.

"Mistakes are being made. I know for example, there is so much criticism of the referees in Holland. In this world, if there is a possibility to be negative, everyone wants to be negative so if a referee makes a wrong decision everyone will fall over it and if I make the wrong line-up, everyone will fall over it.

"I think it is quite an ok season for referees in England actually. Mistakes are being made. The most important thing is that it doesn't influence the league table, but it is normal that it does. Mistakes are part of our lives, also from referees."

Alexander-Arnold deserves a standing ovation send off from Liverpool supporters. He has honoured his contract and played his guts out for the club. Now the biggest club in the world (after Utd) are in for him, he would be mad not to go. And deserves kudos for taking a chance and trying something new.

Picking up vibes that you might be a Manchester United fan Will? Not that that is important as you make a fair point about Trent Alexander-Arnold, but it's probably worth mentioning...

  6. 'I would have loved to have played in Champions League quarter-final'published at 10:37 British Summer Time 3 April

Fulham v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on having full week breaks between matches now: "Looking back at the previous eight months you would say it's a disadvantage because how well did we do by playing every three days? But, there must have been a few moments where we had one week rest as well and I assume because we've only lost once that we probably won that game as well.

"I would have loved to have played in the quarter-finals of the Champions League but unfortunately we played Paris St-Germain and now this is our situation and we accept it.

"It's also a challenge because players stay fit in the programme of playing two times a week - now they have to put even more effort in during training sessions. You aren't able to work as hard as you do against Everton or PSG if you don't work hard enough during the week and that's the challenge we face now."

  7. Bradley could return, Gomez and Alexander-Arnold remain outpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 3 April

Fulham v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on team news: "Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Joe [Gomez] will not be back in the upcoming weeks. Conor [Bradley], we will have to wait and see if he will be ready for the squad for Sunday. Curtis [Jones] is an option [at right-back] because he did well but Jarell [Quansah] did well a few times in the position also, so let's wait and see.

"With Alisson it is simple, it is a concussion and you have to tick all the boxes and the moment he does he will be in goal and at the moment he doesn't - we are following the protocol."

I’ve seen comments last night and today saying Liverpool won’t even finish in top 4 without the 3 contract rebels. Why? Aren’t we going to save upwards of their combined £750k a week in base salary alone and buy replacements? Premier League champions attract good players.

  9. 'So many things can happen' still in title race - Slotpublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 3 April

Fulham v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on how close he feels to clinching the Premier League title: "In theory so many things can happen. We felt yesterday how hard it is to win a Premier League game. Yes we won it and yes we are very happy with it but David Moyes deserves a lot of credit for how his team was lined up and how difficult he has made it for every single team he has arrived there. It is nice for us that we beat them because we know how hard it is.

"It tells you that with eight games to go, every game is a challenge - starting with Fulham, who are having a very good season as well.

"We are not working on theories about how many points, we are taking the challenge of Fulham where we will need to be at our best again to get a result."

Arne Slot continued with some team news, including a line on goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Fulham v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot on the PGMOL acknowledging that James Tarkowski's challenge should have been a red card: "It is always good that if they think they have made a mistake that they acknowledge that. We all know that mistakes are being made during football matches - by us, by me, by referees.

"It is good that they acknowledge the mistake but it was so clear. Let's go on to Sunday."

  13. 'Good PGMOL acknowledged the mistake'published at 10:22 British Summer Time 3 April

Fulham v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Here is Liverpool boss Arne Slot, first question is on the PGMOL standpoint on James Tarkowski's yellow card.

He says it is "good they acknowledged the mistake", but said it was so clear that it should not have been made.

"But let's move on," he added.

  14. 'They rode their luck'published at 10:19 British Summer Time 3 April

    Liverpool 1-0 Everton

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on the Football Daily podcast

The great thing is when you win a league title, no one looks over the record books and says what you've done, how the games were, it's just who lifts the title at the end of it. It's all Liverpool care about, it's all Liverpool fans care about at the moment.

I think when you think about the way Liverpool have played this year, the first half of the season was very controlled, very organised in the way they played, teams found it difficult to break them down.

That was a little bit different from the start of the year and what we are seeing now is that teams are starting to find ways to get at Liverpool, to find a way through. But what they did last night was they rode their luck a little bit.

  16. Posters question Alexander-Arnold loyaltypublished at 10:08 British Summer Time 3 April

Fulham v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 BST)

Arne Slot's last news conference was dominated by questions about Trent Alexander-Arnold's future, amid reports that he is in advanced talks with Real Madrid over a potential free transfer to the European champions in the summer.

The England full-back is currently injured, but was at Anfield to watch Wednesday night's 1-0 win over Everton.

Pictures have been circulated this morning of posters questioning Alexander-Arnold's commitment to the club, which have been put up on houses around Anfield.

That will surely be another question posed at today's news conference - when Alexander-Arnold is fit to play again for Liverpool, is the manager worried about how he will be received by supporters?

    Liverpool

Believe it or not, but Liverpool boss Arne Slot will be speaking with the media again at around 10:15 BST.

He will more than likely be asked about PGMOL's stance on James Tarkowski's yellow card.

The news conference has been planned to preview Sunday's game at Fulham, before the team heads down to London.

    Simon Stone

PGMOL believe they are operating in a transparent way by admitting mistakes and felt in this instance it needed to be addressed immediately rather than waiting for Howard Webb’s next ‘Match Officials Mic’d Up’ appearance.

Get Involved - Guard of honour a 'stomach turner'published at 09:53 British Summer Time 3 April

Re: the guard of honour issue, that's a stomach turner for Chelsea fans too! The majority of us have settled for Liverpool winning the league (not Arsenal) but I want no part in their title procession!

    James

Re: guard of honour. As an Arsenal fan, I don't have any problem with doing it for the opposition, they clearly deserve it. Might hurt, but let's be sporting and say "fair play, well done". However, since not every champion gets a guard of honour (if the title is decided on the last day), how about changing it so the champs get a guard of honour on the first game of the next season?

  20. 'Salah was non-existent'published at 09:49 British Summer Time 3 April

    Liverpool 1-0 Everton

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on the Football Daily podcast

Mohamed Salah was non-existent and that is a concern for Liverpool because you can't limp across the line with your strikers not being at their best.

I think [Virgil] Van Dijk was just [about at it] tonight. I think he's played well in other games but I just think he got ruffled a bit in the first-half, but in the second-half he was a lot better, he composed himself, won those battles with Beto that he wasn't winning in the first-half.

My concern is the three midfielders. They look dead on their feet, they really do. [Alexis] Mac Allister doesn't look anywhere near the player he was, his passing and control of games has run away from him a little bit. And [Ryan] Gravenberch doesn't look like he can get back at players.
