  2. 'It's always good for me as a manager'published at 16:28 British Summer Time 3 October

Manchester City v Fulham (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva on player selection: "It's not just in that position [forwards], lucky for us we have some good examples. The right-back position is a fantastic example, I can mention others as well because many players are doing and showing a big battle with the others for the positions.

"You feel that you are never comfortable in your position because the others are there and if they get the chance then they can show themselves and perform in a way that they can keep their position. It's always good for me as a manager and the club. I think it's the best selection a manager can have in a football club."

  3. Muniz 'showing his quality'published at 16:26 British Summer Time 3 October

Manchester City v Fulham (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva on forward Rodrigo Muniz: "The first game of the season, we started with Rodrigo, because he finished so strong last season. The last four months for Rodrigo were top, we decided to start with him again.

"With his competition with Raul [Jimenez], reacted very well, I have to say. He had some very good weeks, always knocking the door and I told him and even Rodrigo knows, its not that Rodrigo lost his position but Raul, in the training sessions, earned the right to be there. We decided to change. Rodrigo now is showing his quality as well. Ready to go again."

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper on criticism he has received: “I don’t hide away from it and I make sure I’m more visible and more vocal than when things are going well.

"That’s the role of a leader and a manager. Criticism is a motivation. Some days you get a lot of criticism, I take it as it comes. I really believe in my work and definitely believe in my players.”

Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury has dislocated his shoulder in training, says manager Steve Cooper.

“Hamza dislocated his shoulder in training yesterday," said Cooper.

"It was innocuous. It’s settling down and we’re trying to work out how long. It could be weeks or months.

"With Hamza, it was just a normal challenge.”

On defender Jannik Vestergaard returning to training: "Jannik has started training fully today. He’s back today. Some players have had kicks and they’ve not trained yet."

  6. Confidence 'heightens when you get a reward'published at 16:20 British Summer Time 3 October

Everton v Newcastle (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche on his team's confidence after winning their first Premier League match this season: "It's a strange thing, confidence is that funny thing that comes and goes, it ebbs and flows, but mainly you have to have an underbelly of confidence to be a professional footballer. But of course, it heightens it when you get a reward. The players, there's been no lack of work from the players this season but it heightens the work when you do get a performance that can win and you do see it through and you can win.

"Professional confidence as I call it, in what we do, the day to day work and what they do as a group when the whistle blows and that's one thing. Individual confidence is something each player will adapt to, they're players that have played well in previous games. Winning brings that whole team and that whole collective mentality where everyone feels a bit better about life."

  7. Bayern must learn from Villa defeat - Kanepublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 3 October

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Bayern Munich must learn from their 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa, according to Harry Kane.

Jhon Duran's late goal condemned Vincent Kompany's defeat to their first Champions League group stage defeat since 2017, when Unai Emery's PSG beat them 3-0.

Bayern hit nine past Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener last month - with Kane scoring four - but the England skipper feels they can take more from defeat at Villa Park on Wednesday.

"Yeah I think so. There is going to be more times teams are going to play like this against us," he said.

"The way we've started the season and our style of football, if teams are going to go man for man with us it is going to be really difficult for them.

"You are going to get more dropping off and playing on the counter-attack. I just think when teams drop off we can be a little bit more creative but, having said that, I thought in the first and second half we had moments we could have done better with.

"These are the type of games where if you break the deadlock early it opens it right up.

"As the game went on they got more and more compact and they obviously caught us on the counter with a great pass and a great finish and that summed the night up.”

  8. Everton team newspublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 3 October

Everton v Newcastle (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche on team news: "[Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja] are a bit longer, Coleman is a bit longer as well but not too much longer – we're hopeful over the international break that he gets closer.

"Patto is more common sense now. He's out training all of the time but he needs a game programme after being out for around six months. That was a longer-term situation but he's making good progress and he's training regularly and so far, so good."

  9. 'He’s frustrated with himself and disappointed'published at 16:13 British Summer Time 3 October

Arsenal v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

Southampton manager Russell Martin on Jack Stephens, who has been given an additional two-match suspension after his sending off against Manchester United in September: "Obviously they’ve drawn a line in the sand, the FA and the Premier League. So I think if everyone is treated the same, we have to accept it. it is what it is.

"Jack is really accepting that he has made a mistake and he asked for an in-person hearing so he can apologise and make sure that is the case because he is a very good human being. He’s frustrated with himself and disappointed.

"We’re frustrated to not have him available, to be without him, because he helps us. We’ll be watching now as a club to make sure everyone is treated in the same way and if it is then, we have to accept it and move on."

  10. Smallbone and Kamaldeen not fit yetpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 3 October

Arsenal v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

Southampton manager Russell Martin on team news: "Will Smallbone is not quite back fit yet, Kamaldeen [Sulemana] the same. Hopefully after the International break we’ll have Will back, and hopefully Kamaldeen too. Other than that it’s pretty much as is.

"I think there’s a balance of talent and character. I have no doubt we’ll get through this together and when we do it’ll be brilliant. We haven’t found the flow consistently but when we have we’ve surprised some people. It’s a process and we’re evolving all the time."

McKenna added that he's hopeful of having Cajuste back available after the international break.

  12. McKenna impressed by Phillips and Delappublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 3 October

West Ham v Ipswich (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna on Kalvin Phillips' form: "He's settling in well. He's enjoying the day to day here. Each performance he has had has probably been a little bit stronger than the last. If he keeps working, he's got the chance to build up to some really good form. He's very good in front of the back four. He's really mobile.

"Him and Sam (Morsy) have given us a really good platform. That midfield unit is in a really good place."

On Liam Delap's start to the season: "He's had a really good start, he obviously impressed us at Hull to sign him. He's a young striker, he's had three loans in the Championship. He's developing well.

"He arrived in pre-season without a clear off-season and end of season, it's taken a little while to adapt to the intensity of training and the profile of players.

"For 21 years of age, the start he's had to the Premier League is really promising. He's made some really good strides."

  13. 'Like a kid in the street' - Palmer's form encapsulates 'happy' Chelseapublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 3 October

    Chelsea

    fara williams column

It is still early days for Enzo Maresca at Chelsea but I do think he is winning the fans over.

Chelsea are a team made up of a lot of young players but they do still have a lot of experience between them. A lot of money has been spent – and there will always be talk around that and the long contracts – so that has added a bit more pressure.

The Blues have only lost to Manchester City this season and they are playing really well and adapting to Maresca's style. That takes time as it is a process so patience has to come with that. The important thing is that the players are buying into what he is trying to do at the club and the players look happy.

There is always going to be room for improvement, especially in such a young side, but the fact they have started well does mean media attention has come off Maresca.

That has taken pressure off the players and it shows as they look to be playing with freedom and confidence now.

And of course it helps when you have Cole Palmer in your side.

In a struggling Chelsea team last season, he still scored 20-plus goals and he has started this season exactly where he left off.

Palmer is probably the most in-form player in the Premier League at the minute and the way he plays the game is like a kid in the street. He is just so comfortable on the ball.

Maresca has found him a position that is getting the very best out of him and the players around him really trust him. That gives him the confidence to express himself and his goals speak for themselves in terms of his quality.

  14. Chelsea 'excited' about Gent matchpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 3 October

    Chelsea v Gent (20:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea return to Europe in the Conference League on Thursday with a match against Belgian club Gent at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are strong favourites to win Uefa's third-tier competition - having not played in Europe whatsoever last season.

Asked whether they were aware Chelsea could become the first team in Europe to add a Conference League title to previous Champions League and Europa League successes, boss Enzo Maresca said: "We are. But we are happy and excited about tomorrow's game."

Defender Reece James remains the only player out injured as the Italian manager is expected to make a large number of changes, having changed 10 players against Brighton and 11 the week before against Barrow.

Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana and Ben Chilwell were left out of the west Londoners' Conference League squad, with Maresca keen to rotate in the various competitions after being left with 29 senior players after another busy summer transfer window.

Palmer has become the club's star player and scored four goals against Brighton, but his absence could present an opportunity to multiple players - including Mykhailo Mudryk.

  15. Postecoglou's 'special connection' with Puskaspublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 3 October

    Ferencvaros v Tottenham (17:45 BST)

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou spoke about his "special connection" with Hungarian great Ferenc Puskas before his side play Ferencvaros in the Europa League.

Postecoglou played under former forward Puskas, who won the European Cup three times with Real Madrid, when he was the manager of South Melbourne in Australia.

The Spurs boss has previously said, , externalhe used to act as a chauffeur and interpreter to Puskas, who died in 2006, during their time together.

"I do have a special connection, for me anyway, with Mr Puskas," said Postecoglou.

You look at what Manchester United have spent on players. You look at the recruitment and you question the balance of the squad.

Erik ten Hag, in more recent times, he’s spent the second most money as Manchester United manager to Sir Alex Ferguson. £600m on new players.

12 of the 16 players that played against Tottenham at the weekend, he signed them, so the balance of the squad, they are players he wants and he has chosen and he can’t get a tune out of them at the moment. They are struggling to score goals.

It's not just Manchester United, just because it is one of the biggest football clubs in the world, but whatever club you are, when you pull on that club shirt, the minimum requirement is the maximum.

If he feels he’s not getting that from that group of players, there is something clearly amiss and they’re in for a really tough game tonight because this Porto team are very good at home.

That’s the interesting thing from Ten Hag’s recent interviews. What he’s said, not getting the maximum effort from his players. You look at the team sheet, the 11 he sends out, the six or eight on the bench, the changes that he’s able to make, there is a lot of quality in that team but he’s just not been able to get the best of these players.

The gaps in between them and his players not being able to close them down, it was worrying for a team like Manchester United.

The facts don’t lie, it’s Manchester United's joint worst start ever to a Premier League season.

Seven points, losing three of their opening six games and I think the most worrying thing for Manchester United supporters is the way that they have been playing.

Ten Hag has actually had 10 or more defeats by three goals as a Manchester United manager, he was backed in the summer, he was given a new two-year deal in July, he’s getting his own players that he wants.

He’s almost got all of the excuses removed from him and for me, his interviews, his pre-match and his post-match press conferences, they are all becoming a little bit predictable. He talks about the process and trusting the process, I still don’t see it with him.
