  4. 'This is the benchmark'published at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Tottenham

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner to BBC Match of the Day: "Congratulations to team, to the players for how they played today with passion and courage. They showed it on the pitch against a good Tottenham team. we tried to be active at the end, but there were some moments but Tottenham are a great team.

"The players took it as a chance and every single phase of their body. We played great and moved the ball. A very good performance today.

"I mentioned before the game that if we were convinced changing the formation was the solution then we would do it immediately. Tottenham tied everything late on. The players did it amazing and that is why we won this game."

On Eze: "I think we see the old Eze all season. He's been a bit unlucky. He scored a great goal but was offside. I think it's a penalty but I didn't see it on TV. If he has a free shot then he shoots so I don't know why he would lie down on the grass. We know he is technically unbelievable.

On easing pressure: "It helps all of us if we play in that way. We are a very good team and it's very difficult to beat us. Getting this response, this game helps us. We have to show it again in three days against Villa. This is the benchmark. You can score and concede, this is football."

  5. 'I'm really grateful today'published at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Tottenham

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "On effort, resilience and team spirit, everything was there today. I'm really grateful today. I wouldn't say it was all about today but there's been work behind the scenes and the supporters have been behind us.

"Credit to the manager and staff, the message this week was to not sink when things get difficult. It's important to be brave against a good Spurs team."

  6. 'We have to see this as a building block'published at 16:51 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

FT: West Ham 2-1 Man Utd

    West Ham United

West Ham's Jarrod Bowen speaking to PLP: "We knew we had to bounce back after a disappointing derby defeat. It was one of those games with lots of added time where it requires everything and everybody. To a fan and to a club with the fans we all dug in today."

On penalty: "At the time I saw [Danny] Ings got kicked and I think they got kicked so I thought it wasn't a pen. I had a feeling it might get given and then Cre [Somerville] had the ball and it was a waiting game. With penalties you have a routine you know where you're going. But when you're waiting you're thinking shall I go the other way? But I stuck with what I know and stepped up and wanted to dispatch and thankfully I did that."

On half time team talk: "We were annoyed at ourselves because we were turning the ball over and giving them chances. We kept turning the ball over and shooting ourselves in the foot against a side with quality going forward. We rode our luck at times and second half was a different feel. We knew it would be difficult but all it takes is a moment. We had a couple of chances and it felt like we were in the game and the fans knew that. We concede a poor goal and after that I think it was anyone's game. We come away with a massive three points."

On Somerville: "He's been brilliant. He trains superbly, great person off the pitch and has waited for his chances. Every time he plays he has an impact and done that today. Can't speak highly enough of him."

On whether this is time to kick on: "It needs to be because this season we've been in positions where we've won 4-1 against Ipswich then gone and lost 4-1 to Tottenham. It's about consistently winning games and if you want to be successful you have to see it as a building block."

  7. 'We are building and building'published at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

    Chelsea

Chelsea scorer Cole Palmer, speaking to BBC Match of the day: "I just try and play and do my best."

On whether scoring or creating makes him happier: "Both, if we score from any of it then I'm happy."

On the feeling in the team: "With a performance like that we're building and building so we need to keep going now."

On whether the game was everything he expected: "The gaffer warned us of how physical and challenging it was going to be so it was what we expected."

  8. 'Players like Palmer are reasons fans pay to watch'published at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Meresca, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a different kind of game compared to the rest. We know how strong they are and how good they are. We had some good moments on the ball, very happy overall."

On Cole Palmer: "It is the reason why people pay, they want to see that kind of player. We are very happy to have him."

Any areas a cause for concern? "I am always concerned. We can attack better and defend better. We started three months ago so I am very happy where we are now. The important thing is the feeling is good."

"We play nine games already. I am not looking at the table at the moment. If you do that sometimes you can be confused.

"The players are understanding every day what we are working for. The fans can enjoy and dream. Us as a club and as players, we need to understand there are many things we can do better."

  9. Postpublished at 16:47 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

Newcastle have failed to win in their last 5 games in the Premier League, their last joint longest winless streak was from 21st January 2023 to 4th March 2023.

  10. 'We gave everything'published at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I thought it was a really good game, two really good teams. We gave a lot to the match, contributed a lot in terms of endeavour and attitude.

"I'm probably disappointed with the two goals we conceded, especially the second which we thought was self-inflicted. But we gave everything to try and get something."

On whether Newcastle deserved something: "I felt we did for the character shown in coming back, I thought there were a lot of positive things, a lot of very good football. I felt as we were chasing the game we were moments away from scoring at any moment."

On what's missing at the moment: "I think it's just the final bit in both boxes where we didn't defend the two moments well enough and I felt we had enough positive actions to score more. Hopefully the goal will go a long way to ridding ourselves of that. No one can change it but us and we'll continue to attack games and attack teams."

On if the current run is emotionally draining: "I think you go through all types of cycles as a manager. You understand the difficult moments and you just have to ride through them knowing you'll come back again. The attitude of the players gives me the most heart and that's the most important thing."

On how many changes he can make for Wednesday's League Cup game against Chelsea: "We're probably not in the position where we can make as many as we would like. We'll try and make the right decisions for both games and we want to try and go as far as we can."

  11. 'We needed this win'published at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

FT: West Ham 2-1 Man Utd

    West Ham United

West Ham goal scorer Crysencio Summerville speaking to BBC MOTD:

"I thought when is the game going to finish?! We tried to build momentum and they scored for 1-1 and then you're looking for the winner. Very happy, we needed this."

On his goal: "I saw Danny [Ings] was going to hit the bar and just anticipated and thought yes I'm going to reach this ball. A lot of emotions because every forward player wants to play. I try to help the team in any way I can.

"I said to [Mohamed] Kudus if I go on I'm going to score so that's why I went to him."

On penalty decision: "Surprised because we played on. I tried to distract them as though I was going to take it but it was a long wait. Much needed [win] for our confidence."

On getting more games: "I'm always patient and do my best on the training ground. I have to respect coach decisions but I try to help the team as best as possible."

  12. 'We lack the desire to fight'published at 16:44 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario speaking to Sky Sports: "They fight and I think we lacked that today. We are disappointed because we have to fight. We play good football but maybe sometimes we lack the desire to fight. They show a real desire to fight for something.

"I just want to focus on us and what we didn't do as a team. I think we lacked a bit of energy and to be better than them. We have to take this personally and it has to hurt us a lot. Football gives us an opportunity again and we have to be ready for the cup."

On Son absence: "He is the captain but we have a big squad and we have to deal with that. We have to be able to win games without Son. We lacked in something, not in football, but attitude and fight."

  13. 'A complete performance'published at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Very pleased with the points but especially the performance. I think it was a complete performance on the ball and off the ball. For some moments we were unbelievable on and off."

On what pleased him the most: "Overall I was very happy with all of them but especially the way we worked off the ball and pressed together, fought together."

On Chelsea's squad depth: "Every game I feel bad, I feel shame because I have to leave players out but it's the only way to try to compete. No matter how many changes we do, it's important the style is there, the identity is there."

On Reece James' importance: "He's very important, he's our captain and a fantastic player."

On how Chelsea are doing in the table: "I said many times that the club never mentioned about top four, they just mentioned to try to build something important. We'll see."

  14. 'I am sure the referee is right'published at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

FT: West Ham 2-1 Man Utd

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Julien Lopetegui speaking to BBC MOTD: "Happy for the three points. We are happy for the fans and players, they deserve this victory after suffering a lot in the first half. Second half we changed different things and the first half was for them but the second was for us. We were able to compete better and win the match.

"We had some players with yellow cards so we changed at half time because we wanted to be aggressive. I wanted to put Crysencio Summerville on I thought he was key in second half. His energy and his way to play in the second half allowed us to get the goal. Fortunately we won. We keep positive when they scored and the commitment we appreciate the support from the fans.

"Each week I can make changes, thinking of ideas how to play against the opponent. I was thinking today Summerville could be key in the second half but he will play a lot. He did well, we are happy for him and for the team and players and fans."

On penalty: "I didn't see it. The players say it's a penalty and the referee says it is a penalty so I am sure they are right. But I haven't seen it. I prefer to highlight that after they scored we keep the energy and positive momentum to win the match. I prefer to keep that energy.

"We had a bad result last week but that can happen and today we've won against a big team. To win any match is a big challenge it's difficult you have to go to the limits. We have to keep the energy to compete and be better."

  15. Postpublished at 16:38 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

Of course you can scrutinise the penalty decision and how it affects the match. But Manchester United had ample opportunity to win the game.

With that in mind, should they stick with Erik ten Hag? Hit the thumbs.

  16. Spotlight on Ten Hagpublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

FT: West Ham 2-1 Man Utd

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will be wanting to talk about the VAR decision that cost his team at the London Stadium but the really important question is what do co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth think about today's game.

United stuck with Ten Hag after his FA Cup final success against Manchester City.

I was told on Friday the club still want the Dutchman to succeed but he clearly needed to win matches.

United did not explicitly offer public backing during the international break earlier this month, so I am not anticipating they will do that in the wake of this defeat.

But clearly, if the verdict is a negative one, we will know that soon enough.

  17. 'The results will come'published at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought it was a really high level game. I thought it was two really good teams. I thought it was a brave performance by us but the game was decided by a couple of moments.

"We were disappointed with the second goal. We gave the ball away, it cost us with the goal. It is an uncharacteristic goal for us to concede.

"I am proud of what the players gave today, if we continue to play as we are then the results will come.

"The attitude of the players is very good. We dug deep here. We scored a really good goal and proof that we are that attacking force we can be. Sometimes you go through phases like this, we are going through a difficult phase in terms of results.

"Expectations are high and rightly so. We want to be a team consistently winning in the best league in the world. There will always be dips, you have to be mentally strong. We will keep fighting."

  18. 'Why would I be happy?'published at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was one of those games with a lot of stoppages and battles and they ended up winning a lot of them and coming out on top. There was a lot of disruption and it was hard to get any fluency. They did better than us.

"It turned into a game they were thriving on and we should have dealt with it better. It was a poor goal to concede, it had nothing to do with playing out from the back. That can happen.

"I'd be very surprised if they were happy right now. Why would I be happy? If I'm unhappy then they'll be unhappy. If you're suggesting that our fans weren't happy with today then that's a fair assessment."

  19. 'Unfair and unjust'published at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

FT: West Ham 2-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag speaking to BBC MOTD: "Three times this season we feel injustice. We have to score, we created so many chances. We should've been two or three up. Second half we were forcing it but we allowed them into the game. When you are losing 1-0 you need big personality and character of the team and showed resilience to get back into it. Unfair and unjust the way we conceded the penalty."

On penalty: "It was so difficult to see. Before the season there was the instruction about VAR only interfering in clear and obvious mistakes. That is definitely not a clear and obvious mistake from the on field referee.

"More frustrations but I can do nothing with that. They don't collect points and that's what we have to do. We have to look in the mirror, we don't score in a good game from our side. Create loads of chances and concede none but when you lose in this way it's a bad feeling."

Spoken to officials? "I spoke with them. But the decision is made. There's no way back and that's football. That's a third time I have felt injustice in the season and it has a big impact on our team and on our scores and where we are in the table. It's not right."

  20. 'Things cannot continue like this for Man Utd'published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October

FT: West Ham 2-1 Man Utd

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City and Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

What is going to happen with Erik ten Hag now? The pressure has ramped up to yet another level and things cannot continue like this. Football is so cruel because his side were miles the better team in the first half and should have been out of sight. Today they have been unlucky.
