Prior to today Leeds United had not lost any of the previous 78 Championship games they had scored first in.

A win for the Whites tonight would send them back to the top of the league, ahead of Burnley on goal difference.

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio WM:

"It was disappointing, frustrating. We didn't perform at our level. It's frustrating that we aren't getting to the level we need to be at in such big games.

"Away, we just haven't accrued the points that we need to. Coventry are a decent team and they're on a good run of form and yet I still felt that we would come here and dominate more. But they played pretty well first half.

"We tried to make the changes at half-time that would have given us more control and yet we lost a goal within three minutes and had a sending off pretty quickly after and obviously the dynamic changed.

"But it's football. You have to take it on the chin. We've lost late goals in games when we felt we should have been winning and found a way to lose or drop points but that wasn't the case this time. We've lost a little of our normal intensity."

Blackburn Rovers head coach Valerien Ismael told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It was a great afternoon, especially the way we wanted to play. We kept going after the second half against Sheffield Wednesday, the fighting spirit [we showed] against Luton, last week and I think we combined them both today, from minute one we were on the front foot.

"We see clearly the way the players want to reinforce the message, the game plan, the way we want to play.

"When you get the result the players start to believe and put some confidence in the things and it looks like today the best performance I think from the players since I'm in."

On Callum Brittain: "On the other hand, you see clearly when you are missing key players it makes a huge difference.

"Callum Brittain in the first game back in and you see straight away he lifted the quality in the team.

"This team needs the best players on the pitch to perform and now we see the statistics as well - much more shots on target, much more penetration and more goals."

Leeds have controlled the game, we've dominated the possession. Before the game kicked off we knew what Oxford were about, they've got a long throw, strong on set-pieces.

For me, we've looked as comfortable in that first half as we could have hoped for. They've got to change the way that they play if they want to get back into the game.

We've just got to keep it tight and be a little bit more clinical in front of goal.

Leeds on top in this game and of the Championship.

Manor Solomon's finish at the end of a neat attacking move from the visitors is the difference as it stands.

Oxford have battled well and had the first real chance of the night when Cameron Brannagan forced a low save from Karl Darlow.

Leeds have largely had the better of things though and are well-worth their advantage.

If they can see this over the line they'll be five clear of third-placed Sheffield United with three matches to play.

Brenden Aaronson briefly looks to be in on the Oxford goal but Jamie Cumming is off his line well to shut him down.

Willy Gnonto just over-cooked the ball through to him.

It's been a great 45 minutes.

Oxford United have stood their ground and the goal came out of nothing. They've had a lot of possession as expected, but we just have to keep believing.

We're into a minimum of three minutes of time added on before the interval.

Leeds are probing in search of a second goal before the break that would really stamp their authority on this game.

We'll have a few minutes of time added on before the break and Oxford boss Gary Rowett will just want to get his team in with things as they are.

Leeds skipper Ethan Ampadu is down after a poor challenge from Przemyslaw Placheta.

The Pole is very apologetic for catching him with a high boot but he's booked all the same.

What a goal that is.

That man Joe Rodon has started the game so well, he picks the ball up and hits a beautiful defence-splitting ball for Bogle to run on to.

He fires it across the six-yard box and Solomon hits it in the roof of the net.

You can hear the noise drained out of the Oxford fans and the Leeds end is rocking.

Manor Solomon gets in again and this time only desperate defending stops the ball getting to Willy Gnonto.
