    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo to MOTD: "We are proud and very happy to win, I know the miles and the distances they put in. We had to overrun them, that is the only way at Anfield. Our fans haven't celebrated in Liverpool for so long so enjoy it.

"If you ignore the quality Liverpool have it is a mistake and we didn't. You cannot leave your team-mates isolated, you have to be organised and solid. I praise everybody, every player is going to be needed."

The pressure will be on Aston Villa, they are a team now who want to establish themselves in that top four to top six. They will be expected to beat Everton so hopefully Everton go there and put in a good performance and get some points.

"They can get their season started."

  8. 'It's about building and believing'published at 17:28 British Summer Time 14 September

    FT: Liverpool 0-1 Nottingham Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Realising Liverpool are such a good team it required a lot of effort from the players, the organisation, tackling and the cover.

"The only way to achieve anything here is if you are organised and do everything that you can.

"When you start the way we started with our wingers, Nico Dominguez and Elliot Anderson - all the effort of them tracking Liverpool's full-backs it is a lot of energy.

"The team needed fresh legs and they played well.

"We are working hard and it is about building and believing in this idea that you can develop."

  9. 'We have to be better'published at 17:28 British Summer Time 14 September

    FT: Liverpool 0-1 Nottingham Forest

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot: "The result frustrates the most and we cannot be hapy about how the game went. It was a stop-start game and we harldy created any chances.

"We only have to look at ourselves, we have to be better. Far too many times we lost the ball around the area, it was not good enough. We have to be better with the ball.

"Our decisions and execution wasn't good enough. In general we defended quite well but the two fast players came on and made it difficult. We took a lot of risk and in the end it was a very good goal."

This is the first of seven games in 22 days for Aston Villa in three different competitions as the club get ready to return to the top tier of European club competition.

Villa travel to Switzerland to face Young Boys on Tuesday before hosting Bayern Munich on 2 October.

They also have a big West Midlands derby at home to Wolves (21 September), away at Ipswich (29 September) and at home to Manchester United (6 October) on the horizon - as well as a Carabao Cup tie at Wycombe (24 September).

"Of course, it is difficult to manage it with many matches," says Villa boss Unai Emery.

"The Champions League starts next week but we have experience.

"Last season was exciting, even with a lot of injuries. This year we have started with fewer injured players."

  11. 'Everton need a result but I can't see it at Villa'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 14 September

Aston Villa v Everton (17:30 BST)

    .

Everton boss Sean Dyche is under the pump after their capitulation against Bournemouth last time out. It feels like some of their fans have turned against Dyche now, which I think is ridiculous, but he does need a result and unfortunately for him Villa Park is not a place I see Everton getting anything.

The Toffees got hammered 4-0 there last season and, although they will put up a fight, they are not going to get a result on this occasion either.

How many goals Villa get might depend on whether Ollie Watkins is fit. He's in my Fantasy team, which is bad news for him anyway, but he is an injury doubt after pulling out of the England squad.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0

  12. 'We were clinical'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 14 September

    FT: Liverpool 0-1 Nottingham Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest forward Anthony Elanga, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Since the start of pre-season the atmosphere has been good. We got the new players in early.

"We come here to Liverpool and not many teams can beat them and play the way we did - we got rewarded with it at the end.

"This game reminded of the game we played at Chelsea [Chelsea 0-1 Nottingham Forest], it's a special win today.

"Me and Callum [Hudson-Odoi] spoke about it on the bench - 'when we come on we would make a difference'.

"We have started the season well, but we have still got 35 games left - we have to go game-by-game.

"Last season we played the big sides and played well, it was marginal difference and they were clinical - today we were clinical."

  13. Sticky fixture for out-of-form Toffeespublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 14 September

Aston Villa v Everton (17:30 BST)

The most played fixture in English football is the evening kick-off this Saturday between two sides heading in opposite trajectories.

Unai Emery's Aston Villa are gearing up for a return to the European Cup next week, while Everton are looking the other way, without a point from their opening three games.

Sean Dyche's side suffered a capitulation at home against Bournemouth before the international break and the side have had two weeks to stew over it - what reaction will we get?

Everton's recent record against Villa is wretched having not beaten the hosts since they returned to the top-flight in 2019, a run of 10 games.

In fact, the Blues have not scored a league goal here since 2016 when Romelu Lukaku netted for Roberto Martinez's side.

  14. 'A massive win'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 14 September

    FT: Liverpool 0-1 Nottingham Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest forward Callum Hudson-Odoi to MOTD: "As the space opened I saw a clear opening for a shot and I was delighted it went in. It's a massive win and we know it is massive.

"Everyone's morale is up, we are confident going into every game. We know in our heads the mentality has to be right and we are doing that as a team. The camp is good.

"I didn't start but I wasn't angry or disappointed, I am buzzing, we are all buzzing. It's nice to get the goals but it's just the start of the season and I can keep getting more."

Leicester City had a victory in the courtroom during the international break to avoid a points deduction and they were so close to following that up with a crucial away victory on the pitch.

A sub made a huge difference for Crystal Palace though. Ismaila Sarr came on at right-wing late on and made a big difference, eventually winning the game-changing penalty after Conor Coady’s foul.

Both clubs are still waiting for their first Premier League wins of the season but both can take positives from this draw.

Erling Haaland missed a couple of chances in the last 10-to-15 minutes.

He's an incredible player and he only had two or three touches prior to his first goal.

  19. 'They only wanted to defend'published at 17:15 British Summer Time 14 September

    FT: Liverpool 0-1 Nottingham Forest

    Liverpool

    AlissonImage source, PA Media

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson: "It was a shame, losing points at home is not good at all but the opponent today only wanted to defend and play for the long ball.

"We gave them that too easily when they scored, it was poor defensively from us. We couldn't create much, we had a lack of quality today, we needed more energy. It is three points we have lost today unnecessarily.

"All the opportunities we had were not clear enough and they defended great, they threw themselves in front of the ball."

  20. 'You cannot switch off for one second'published at 17:13 British Summer Time 14 September

    FT: Fulham 1-1 West Ham

    Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva, speaking to MOTD, about West Ham's 95th-minute equaliser: "It just shows that in this Premier League you cannot switch off for one second. We are aware of the quick throws and we have to keep focus and concentration.

"A big frustration for us because before that it was a good performance. It was clear we were the best team on the pitch. They did not have one shot in the first half.

"It was a clear, clear, penalty in my opinion. It's difficult to understand why it was not a penalty in that situation. I don't even want to say anything more about it.

"We should have won this game. It was not a game West Ham pushed us back. The goal came after we switched off. It just shows you have to keep focus until the last second."
