As a Spurs fan, a top performance from us tonight would be resting as many players as possible, letting the youngsters have some game time, and trying our best. Nothing left for us in the league so if we lose tonight then so be it!

    George, Hemel Hempstead

Forest have played all their best football when there was no pressure on them, but absurdly that promise of Champions League qualification has piled the pressure on and now they're struggling. I genuinely expect Spurs to win comfortably tonight - that's just how football works!

  3. Sutton's predictionpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 21 April

    Spurs v Forest (20.00 BST)

    Chris Sutton
BBC Sport predictions expert and Premier League winner

Nottingham Forest are the counter-attack kings and they have the tools to get another win like the one they got over Spurs at the City Ground in December, where they had 30% of possession but won 1-0.

Forest have hit a bit of a blip of late, though, and they don't appear to be quite the same force they were a few weeks ago.

They are desperate for a win to get their top-five bid back on track and Nuno Espirito Santo's would love to get it on his return to Tottenham, where he did not last long as manager, but a draw feels more likely to me.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

  4. Stat attack - Spurs editionpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 21 April

    Spurs v Forest (20.00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

    • Tottenham's tally of 17 league defeats this season is only surpassed by the bottom three sides. It's the most Spurs have suffered in a league campaign since losing 19 in 2003-04.
    • Since their 4-0 victory over Manchester City on 23 November, Spurs have won only 18 points from 60 available (W5, D3, L12).
    • Mathys Tel could become the first teenager to score in three successive Premier League games for Spurs, and only the fourth non-English teenager to do so.
  5. Stat attack - Forest editionpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 21 April

    Spurs v Forest (20.00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

    • Forest could complete a league double over Spurs for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign. Their last win away at Tottenham was that season, 1-0 in March 1997.
    • The Tricky Trees are looking to avoid losing three matches in a row for only the second time under Nuno Espirito Santo.
    • Their only remaining league fixture versus a current top-half side is against Chelsea on the final day of the season.

    Spurs v Forest (20.00 BST)

Tottenham captain Son Heung-min will again be absent as he manages a foot problem.

Midfielder James Maddison is a doubt due to the injury that forced him off against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.

Nottingham Forest will make a late decision on the fitness of Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Aina has been sidelined with a calf injury, while Awoniyi has missed the past two games with a hamstring issue.

  7. Forest's formpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 21 April

    Spurs v Forest (20.00 BST)

Nottingham Forest have been one of the best stories in the Premier League this season, rising from a relegation fight last season to being top four staple in 2024-25.

But it is looking like a bumpy landing to the season for Nuno's side, with a real risk of missing out on the Champions League.

At the start of April, after beating Manchester United, Forest were six points clear of sixth and had second-placed Arsenal in their sights.

But following back to back defeats against Aston Villa and Everton, Forest are now outside the top five on goal difference.

A win tonight is essential to restore momentum.

Unai Emery is hopeful of having a full Aston Villa squad at his disposal for the game against Manchester City.

“Tomorrow we will prepare the match as well as possible, and the players will all be available for tomorrow," Emery said.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery said he has massive respect for next opponents Manchester City - but his team is ready to face last season's champions.

“We can’t stop,” said Emery, as his side look to leapfrog City to fourth place with a win at Etihad Stadium tomorrow.

“We are involved in our key moment in the season. Through the Premier League, we are trying to get our first objective in 38 matches.

“Tomorrow is day 34 against Manchester City, one of the teams contending to be in the top four or top five. They want to win the title, but this year has been more difficult for them.

“My respect for them is massive, as always. We are ready. Every player and every worker here in Aston Villa is so, so focused in the moment we’re in."

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said he has been "so unfair" to Jeremy Doku for not giving him regular minutes this season.

The Belgian started five Premier League games in a row between 23 February and 2 April, but has only made three substitute appearances since.

"I have been so unfair with him in the last games. I remember the games with Spurs away and Brighton, without him they would be impossible,” said Guardiola.

“The only reason he has not played recently is because we didn’t attack with wingers. We attack with full-backs wide and players in the middle."

Manchester City's league meeting with Aston Villa has been billed as "a final" by Pep Guardiola with Champions League qualification on the line.

With five games remaining, City head into the match fourth in the table while Unai Emery's Villa are seventh, but trail by just one point.

Villa progressed further than City in the Champions League this season, reaching the quarter-finals before being edged out by Paris-St Germain.

"They are a contender to qualify for the Champions League," said Guardiola.

"You see the game they played against my friend Luis Enrique [PSG boss] - wow, I was really, really impressed.

"It is a final and we need our people because I think our people want the Champions League next season again and hopefully they can help us from the first minute."

  12. 'Villa & Newcastle both want more'published at 14:33 British Summer Time 21 April

    Alan Shearer
Premier League winning striker for BBC Sport

As I said on MOTD2, right now my guess would be that maybe Chelsea and Forest will be the teams who miss out - but that situation could change very quickly.

There will be ups and downs for all five clubs involved but they have all got valid reasons for thinking they can and will make it.

Villa and Newcastle are similar in that both clubs have had a taste of it now and their fans, players - everyone - they all want more.

I've been lucky enough to go to Villa Park for some Champions League games this season, including their thrilling attempt to fight back against Paris St-Germain last week, and the atmosphere was incredible, the same as it was with Newcastle in 2023-24.

If you think about where both clubs want to go, and also how they might comply with the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules while they try to get there, then Champions League football is imperative.

Sorry James but I can’t see Burnley having a hope of staying up without goals. They may have a solid defence in the championship but quality of prem will be a test too far. Leeds will have the best chance but they will need a good bit of luck and to improve defensively.

  14. 'Chelsea's fixtures among the toughest'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 21 April

    Alan Shearer
Premier League winning striker for BBC Sport

It is hard enough to predict results in the Premier League anyway, but at this stage of the season it is even more difficult.

Chelsea's game against Liverpool on 4 May is a good example of that. Liverpool can clinch the Premier League title next weekend, when they play Tottenham, and we don't know what their attitude will be like after that.

Even with that in mind, though, I still look at Chelsea's fixtures as being among the toughest, just because they have got to travel to two of their rivals, Newcastle and Forest, as part of their run-in.

It's a good sign that they still got the result they needed at Craven Cottage but they only got back into the game when Tyrique George came on with about 12 minutes to go - they would not have won the game without him.

Nicolas Jackson has not scored since mid-December but their main man is Cole Palmer and, for several weeks now, he has not been firing at all.

They got the job done on Sunday because a young kid came off the bench to rescue them, but you have to think that to make the top five they will have to get Palmer scoring again.

  16. Why top-five race is 'impossible to call'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 21 April

    Alan Shearer
Premier League winning striker for BBC Sport

There are five teams going for the three Champions League places behind Liverpool and Arsenal, with only two points between them, and this weekend showed why it is impossible to call.

Going into the latest round of games, the way I saw it there were two in-form teams, Aston Villa and Newcastle, and two sides, Nottingham Forest and Chelsea, who were having a bit of a wobble.

Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, a lot changed. Villa battered Newcastle, and deserved it too, while Chelsea were 1-0 down with less than 10 minutes to go at Fulham but somehow turned it around to win.

The picture is going to keep on changing too - Manchester City play Villa on Tuesday, when I guess the other three teams watching on will be hoping for a draw - and this is what it is going to be like now every week between now and the end of the season.

Someone will have a bad result and appear to be out of it, and someone else will win and look like they are favourites, but there are plenty of twists and turns to come.

  17. The Champions League racepublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 21 April

With the title race nearly done and the relegation battle essentially sorted, the main interest remaining in the Premier League this season is the race for Champions League qualification.

Just two points separate third and seventh - and with the top five qualifying this season, there is everything to play for.

I would say Scott Parker's approach at Burnley had people scratching their heads earlier this season, but now it is clear that defensive solidity, coupled with a good counter-attacking game, gives Burnley the only chance of any of the three teams chasing promotion of actually surviving and, indeed, even doing well in the EPL.
