  1. Alexander-Arnold's dream returnpublished at 07:45 British Summer Time 21 April

    Leicester 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool edged to within three points of the Premier League title courtesy of Trent Alexander-Arnold's only goal of Sunday's game, struck 14 minutes from time at King Power Stadium after the leaders had been frustrated by the doomed Foxes.

Alexander-Arnold enjoyed a dream return from the ankle injury he picked up in Liverpool's Champions League defeat against Paris St-Germain in early March, scoring with an angled left-footed shot, following efforts by Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota against the woodwork in a goalmouth scramble.

And the 26-year-old showed what the moment meant by ripping off his shirt, then celebrating wildly with the joyous Liverpool fans before hanging it from the corner flag.

  2. Can Liverpool win one of the earliest titles in history?published at 07:40 British Summer Time 21 April

Liverpool are one result away from winning the Premier League title, but could theirs be one of the earliest title wins ever?

If second-placed Arsenal lose to Crystal Palace on Wednesday, the Reds will be crowned champions with five games left to play.

If that is the case, they will join the Manchester City side of 2017-18 and Manchester United of 2000-01 to have won the Premier League title with five matches to spare.

But one thing is for sure - that they will not be beating the record set by themselves in 2019-20 when they cruised to the title with seven games remaining.

No team has ever won an English top-flight league title with as many matches left to play as the Reds did that season.

Earliest title wins in English top-flight history:

    • Liverpool in 2019-20 - Seven games left
    • Manchester City in 2017-18 - Five games left
    • Manchester United in 2000-01 - Five games left
    • Everton in 1984-85 - Five games left
    • Manchester United in 1907-08 - Five games left

Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool to their only other Premier League title in the 2019-20 season, which was impacted by covid restrictions.

No fans were allowed in Anfield to see then captain Jordan Henderson lift the trophy, and current manager Arne Slot is eager to make sure the players grasp the title this season at Anfield - at their first available opportunity.

"The only thing the fans want is us winning the league," he said.

"After one league title in 35 years [since winning the top flight in 1990] with them not being involved because of Covid – they were involved but not as much as they would have wanted – any moment that it happens would be special for them.

“We are definitely looking forward to next week because I assume Arsenal will win in the week as they are such a good team. We probably have to do it ourselves, and the first chance we have is next week against Tottenham.”

  6. Slot fully focused on beating Tottenhampublished at 07:13 British Summer Time 21 April

    Leicester 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he expects Arsenal to claim all three points at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday and is looking forward to clinching the title with a victory over Tottenham in front of their own fans on Sunday.

"Of course there is a lot of noise and everybody is excited, but at our training ground we are just focused on the training session we do and try to prepare in the best way possible for Tottenham, which is a team where the injured players are coming back and they deserve our full attention," said the Dutchman, who is looking to guide Liverpool to just their second title of the Premier League era in his first season as manager.

"The boys have one or two days off during this week which we planned a long time ago, and hopefully they will enjoy some time with their loved ones and be fully focused when we are back together towards Tottenham.”

  7. When can Liverpool win the title?published at 07:06 British Summer Time 21 April

    Leicester 0-1 Liverpool

Arne Slot's side need just three more points to clinch the Premier League title in the Dutchman's first season in charge.

Their next match is against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday (kick-off 16:30 BST).

However, they will be crowned champions without kicking a ball if second-placed Arsenal lose at home to Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

A draw for the Gunners against Palace would leave them 12 points behind with only 12 points left to play for.

  8. Title countdownpublished at 06:58 British Summer Time 21 April

    Leicester 0-1 Liverpool

It was a case of three points down, another three to go for Liverpool on Sunday as their 24th win in 33 Premier League games this season consigned Leicester City to relegation and put the Reds on the cusp of a record-equalling 20th top-flight title.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was the poster boy for the win as he returned from injury to score the only goal of the game off the bench.

The Liverpool-born full-back, who is out of contract in the summer, has been in talks with Real Madrid over a possible free transfer, but he showed his passion for the club with a wild celebration.

We will open today's live football news page by assessing the main talking points from Sunday's victory and what it means to Liverpool's title charge.
