    Wealdstone 0-0 Wycombe

These two clubs had a fair few battles down the years when both were in the non-league ranks.

Since then Wycombe have burst into the EFL and been as high as the Championship while Wealdstone have been down to the Isthmian League and left their original home, even spending some time playing at Vicarage Road.

A quiet start apart from Ryan Tafazolli misdirecting a defensive header over his own bar.

An 11:30 in the morning kick-off might evoke memories for those of us who played our youth football on freezing cold Sunday mornings.

How will the professionals deal with this very early start where their pre-match meal might have had more of a cornflake feel about it than the usual pasta...

    Off we go then.

Can Wealdstone get themselves into round three for the first time in 46 years or will the Wycombe juggernaut keep on trucking?

Wealdstone make one change from the side which drew 1-1 at Eastleigh in the National League.

Former Watford defender and Jamaican international Adrian Mariappa returns to captain the side in place of Mason Barrett.

Wycombe have made 11 changes with Matt Bloomfield rotating his entire starting line-up from that which beat Mansfield with a late winner in midweek.

National League against League One - all things set up for a shock, right?

Well, maybe unless the league team you're facing have won their past 10 games in all competitions and are absolutely flying.

But, and here's a big but, Wealdstone have found a bit of form themselves after a difficult start under Matt Taylor.

The Stones are unbeaten in their past six league and FA Cup games including their Cup giant-killing at Grimsby and a notable National League victory over Rochdale.

In Alex Reid and Max Kretzschmar they have experience and goals while Sam Ashford has supplied six goals of his own this season.

A few nomadic years are at an end for Wealdstone with Grosvenor Vale very much their home these days and will evoke memories of Cup shocks of yesteryear with it being tight and the fans right on top of the players.

Tough for Wealdstone? Yes. Impossible? No.

  6. Wycombe wandering along quite nicelypublished at 11:25 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2024

Who is going to stop Wycombe?

Matt Bloomfield's side have been sweeping all before them this season - 10 unbeaten and seemingly with all bases covered.

A draw at Wealdstone looks tricky but the Chairboys have won their past six ties against non-league opposition which includes their 3-2 victory over National League highflyers, York City.

Famously FA Cup semi-finalists in 2001 when, such were their struggles they had to advertise for a striker on Ceefax (ask your parents kids), Wycombe are looking to reach the third round for the first time since 2018.

Even with a large number of changes to their side Wealdstone will have to be at their very best to get to round three for just the second time in their history.

    Good afternoon,

The third round and the riches of a potential tie against a Premier League big boy is just 90 minutes away, or maybe 120 minutes.

Non-league teams are dreaming while some of the EFL teams might be worrying.

Who will make the headlines this weekend?

    Let's get started...
