Mateta scored the winner when Palace beat Ipswich at Portman Road, but it is not just his goals that the Eagles will miss - it's his presence up front that has been so important for them too. This is a big chance for Eddie Nketiah to shine.

There was heartbreak for Ipswich in the FA Cup, losing on penalties to Nottingham Forest, and now all they have to look forward to is a relegation fight.

The Tractor Boys have not won a league game this year, so can they get something at Palace? I don't think so.

Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola to TNT Sports: "A tight game, we controlled transitions, we had chances to shoot but were not precise. In the second half there we transitions and in a transition they scored."

On reasons behind defeat: "They defended really well. We had chances but in last moment we could not do it."

On race for Champions League qualification: "We have 10 games to qualify, we have to win games to qualify and we move on to the next one.

"We knew the game would be difficult. Every season the Premier League gets better and better. We have 10 finals and the next one we start."

There's often that team that you just can't seem to beat and, for Brighton, it's Fulham. The Seagulls have never beaten the Cottagers in the Premier League in nine attempts. They've lost five and drawn four.

I think Southampton will get past that 11 point mark but it has been a tough old season for them. I fear for them a little bit today against Liverpool who I can see coasting and putting a few past them.

I did not see many Southampton fans on my journey into Liverpool this morning.

It would be tough to blame them if they do not turn up in their thousands.

Their team are one of the very worst to ever play in the Premier League and they need two more points to match Derby's record low 11 points.

Win today and they will avoid that record. Opta give them a 7.9% chance of winning this. Which sounds generous if anything.

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It was a tough game everybody saw how good Manchester City are, they had us on the ropes but the boys worked very hard. Of course they were going to have chances but then it was then about us taking ours.

"It was good today. It started with Anthony [Elanga] and Chris [Wood] trying to cut the lines to give time to the back lines but definitely a very good defensive display. We tried to block and then break through the middle with Anthony.

"The focus does not change. We are on to the next one, Ipswich. It [beating City] shows the progress of the squad but there is so much football to be played. Let’s focus on the journey and move on to the next one."

Nottingham Forest

Nott'm Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo to TNT Sports on what he was most happy with: "The organisation, the resilience, we know how hard it is to play City. We tried to give them nothing but it is always difficult."

On Callum Hudson-Odoi's goal and Morgan Gibbs-White's pass: "When Morgan drops a little bit deeper he has the ability to do that but it is all about Callum. But it is not about individuals, all the boys work very hard.

"We have shown a big improvement from last season but now is about enjoying the moment. We are in a good place, but the fans are happy and we keep going on this journey."

On aims for rest of season: "To be better in next game against Ipswich. We take it game-by- game."

On the fans: "The fans are everything. The City Ground has been beautiful for us. There is a bond, a trust. They are behind us and Callum's goal is part of them also."

With three wins and a solitary loss away at Manchester City, Fulham boss Marco Silva earned himself a nomination for February's Premier League Manager of the Month.

When asked about it, he said: "What gives me more satisfaction is [that] the team reacted really well after we had a very good end of November and December. Tough games after [that] and January as a month was not the best. For me, to be there means that the team did well."

However, just eight of those 27 points have come at Selhurst Park.

They have also lost any of their last 18 Premier League home games against sides in the relegation zone (W12 D6), since a 4-0 defeat to Sunderland in 2017.

To maintain their position in that top four is fully deserved.

We are so used to seeing Man City be exceptional that a season like this is considered a crisis.

They didn't look great again today but they still have a chance to win something this season and to get a Champions League place.

Pep Guardiola and the fans won't be happy because they are so used to seeing their team dominate games in all competitions. Today they just didn't have enough.

Since that humiliating 7-0 loss at Nottingham Forest, Brighton have turned a corner.

Fabian Hurzeler's side have won their last three in the Premier League - with two of those coming against fellow Europe contenders Chelsea and Bournemouth.

Can they make it four on the spin today?

The way I was brought up we take nothing for granted. Keep on looking at the next game until it's done and dusted.

Any game can be tricky in its own way. Southampton were very unlucky when they played us at home and they have been very unfortunate with some other results too, so Liverpool will take nothing for granted.
