Kofi Balmer scored on his Motherwell debut
Motherwell got off to a strong start in their Scottish League Cup Group G campaign with a three-goal win over fourth-tier side Edinburgh City.
Debutant Kofi Balmer, who left Crystal Palace this summer, got the visitors off the mark as he headed in from veteran Andy Halliday’s corner in the opening half.
Fellow defender Dan Casey grabbed the second shortly after the break, once again finishing from a corner.
Right-back Stephen O’Donnell delivered the third to secure the victory for Stuart Kettlewell's Premiership hosts.
In the group's other game, Championship side Partick Thistle survived a scare before beating visiting League 1 part-timers Montrose 3-2.
